I'm sorry... I can't help myself! Here's another piece of fanart! Chiyoko's smiling this time! :D And it's probably because... I shaded this piece?! Yes!!! It's not the best ever (as is with the piece overall), but it's decent in my eyes considering it's something I don't know much of! (It's especially better than going "ok let's just have a vignette/spotlight on her face and call it a day" like I did last time).
This was based on a piece of a character that, design-wise, reminded me of Chiyoko; the swimsuit here is based off of the one in that piece, as well as the magical girl outfit that briefly appears in Episode 2. I really tried to get the colors accurate as well, going off of the episodes and artwork I had saved!
I really wanna keep drawing Chiyoko more, and maybe the rest of the YinYang cast later down the line just for fun, especially since that spark was reignited for me earlier this month... We'll see, though~!
(EDIT 5/20/26 6:45 PM EST: I noticed a FATAL error and had to fix it. Also throwing in a textless alt for the hell of it. Enjoy~!)
I know there's a theory on YinYang's TV Tropes page (which might be AI generated because I don't remember a nonexistent entity named Clover being behind CLANNAD, Kanon, and AIR) that suggests her having connections to Midori... but imagine if Yamiko turned out to be Chiyoko's mom instead...
I can picture it happening in Star Wars fashion, too:
Sometime after the fight the Tsubasa twins are like "Yeahhh Yamiko killed your parents" and then fast forward to near the end of the series, Yamiko returns and Chiyoko goes "You killed my mother!" and then the big reveal hits: "No. I am your mother." BOOM! Cue Hikari no Rasenritsu, roll the credits, see you in Season 2.
It's kinda silly, yes, but my reasoning behind it is the interaction that happens at the start of their battle in Episode 3:
Yamiko: It's been a very long time, hasn't it, Chiyoko?
Chiyoko: Who are you?
Yamiko: Don't tell me you've forgotten about your dear Yamiko~
[briefly cut to dream/flashback]
Chiyoko: Yami...?
I ended up finding the inspiration to draw another thing. I know, I know, you must be sick of me already - plaguing this tag with my lengthy posts and subpar fanart and all. This post is no better, so I apologize for the inconvenience.
So, I randomly remembered the scene in Episode 2 where Kuro finds a manga copy of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (likely Vol. 1 from the looks of it) in a closet...
...and I thought about how Chiyoko pointed out the possibility of Kuro developing some sort of addiction from reading too much... and one idea came to mind that kept appearing in my head.
And I knew exactly what I had to do.
So I fired up my art program and got to it. After a long night, an early morning, and a cycle of blood, sweat, tears, and finishing touches that repeated more times than there once were videos on the animestrawberrykitty YouTube channel all those years ago, I can now proudly present the final product:
THIS.
THIS is my masterpiece - my magnum opus - and possibly the greatest thing ever made in terms of YinYang fanart. Out of all the artworks I've submitted under this tag so far, I genuinely hope that this is the one that gets featured and seen. It shocks me that no one has ever considered anything like this, because this is probably the most accurate to Kuro's character in my opinion~!
Ok, in all honestly, though, I don't think this turned out well, but I'm honestly fine with that. I really hope my poor shading job doesn't take away from the rest of the drawing, but if it does then there's always next time! I mean, while this account's creation was more or less because of YinYang (you can tell that I'm looking forward to that fandub, right?), I also see drawing these artworks as an excuse to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone in more ways than one, and again, I'm hopefully gonna continue that for as long as I can.
Oh, and... I must confess: I have never seen a single frame of Haruhi Suzumiya. I've seen some artworks, and I recognize Haruhi herself, but apart from watching one video about a certain arc, I've never actually seen anything else from the anime. I saw the famous dance for the first time last night - yes, in the Year of Our Lord, 2026 - and it brought me so much joy, as if I was taken back to the day 20 years ago when the whole world was first exposed to it. I think I might go ahead watch the series later this summer. Maybe...
I was a bit burnt out when making this, and had no clue about the direction to have it go in, but I wanted to follow through with it anyway and put it out there since I like it well enough to do so.
The original plan was for the drawing to take place in a sunflower field (*cough cough* CLANNAD refrence *cough cough*) but I didn't have the patience to draw one, and I also wanted to try my hand at more intricate shading but didn't have the patience for that either, so instead the setting is that blue and pink backdrop from the ED and the shading is eh.
Anyway, I'll probably post some writings about YinYang soon. I've got a few drafts sitting on the back burner, hopefully I'll finish one and muster up the courage to get it out there sooner than later...
I saw the announcement. It was completely by chance, but the moment I laid eyes on the YouTube link while googling "yinyang fanime", my heart skipped a beat. To say I'm excited would be an understatement; it genuinely makes me beyond happy that YinYang is finally getting something new after this long, and I will for sure be eating this fandub up when it drops in July!
Though, I have to say, judging from the preview: while Chiyoko's voice is almost as soothing as it was in the original, there's something about Mr. Sato's voice that bugs me. Perhaps it's because the voice a bit too... human. Whatever the case, I'm really wondering about how Hikaru, Kuro, and the rest of the cast will sound, too....
Oh yeah, and I made this. I was sorta going for a 2000s anime wallpaper vibe with it. It's nowhere near perfect, but I hope you like it!
