yeah, all good here! i know some of you have expressed concern over the lack of updates on AASB and on my tiktok, and i'm grateful for all of your well wishes, but i'm totally cool, just feeling a little burnout. got sick for a bit, got down for a bit more, work got a little crazy, but i'm regaining my inspiration. i appreciate your guys' patience!
i adore your writing and your lives on tiktok. i like to write with you but i'm struggling with my writing. being concise is a problem for me. what tips would you give to new writers? and how would you describe your writing style?
thank you so much anon! something that's helped him with staying quick and to the point is observing how many tiny details i pick up in any new situation - the readers can infer a lot, so writers don't have to give them much more than impressions to paint a clear picture. think of it like one of those paintings of a field of flowers - up close, they're nothing but colorful dots, but far away, they paint a complete image. the human mind can fill in the blanks, and overexplaining things can tear the reader from their suspended disbelief. that being said, i still have the tendency to meander. sometimes, if i'm really struggling with cutting back on a section, i try reading it out loud. if i get bored of reading it, so will my readers. as far as tips for new writers - write as much and as often as you can without getting burnt out. your writing will suck, and that's okay, you're learning. nobody ever improves by agonizing over making everything perfect. embrace the joy in creating something new and leave behind the desire to cringe from the clumsiness of it!
okay, so my writing style - no idea. with my poetry, it's all free form. i don't really plan things out, i just sort of throw myself into it, so i suppose it could also be considered stream of consciousness, too. i try to write like how i speak, so that the reader feels more like they're having a conversation - so they can connect to it on a deeper level.
