also really really great how mustang's big plan for atoning for his sins has nothing to do with ishval or the surviving ishvalans and is entirely about him and his own self-hatred. no thought given to what he could do to make it up to the people who've survived what he and the other state alchemists did, his big dream for what he'd do with the power of the fuhrer is just to bring punishment to those he thinks deserve it. believing that it's amestris that should punish him and never considering if ishval should have a say in his fate is also, imo, revealing

#txt #let's also remember that there was a protest movement of former state alchemists throwing away their licenses #which roy does not participate in #the lack of emotional response he has to scar's appearance and stated motivations is also worth noting #what i'm saying here is i think roy's guilt is less about what he did and more that he was able to do it #the 'act' he puts on as a self-centered gloryhound is less of an act than he realizes. imo #the lie gives shape to the truth or however the saying goes #i think he's haunted less by the deaths he caused than by his own reaction. is what i'm getting at #i don't think he remembers the faces of the people he killed at all and i think that eats him up inside #contrast this to kimblee who is MUCH more shamelessly a horrible person but unlike roy remembers every person who's died by his hand
