Blaine had always imagined that he would move to New York City after graduation, and although he did get into his dream school NYADA, his plans changed last-minute when his boyfriend told him he wasn’t going to move to the city with him after all, as he got recruited for a basketball scholarship at OSUCA. Being the hopeless romantic that he is, Blaine decided he couldn’t stand being apart from the person he loved, and he ended up following his boyfriend to OSUCA. They didn’t spend nearly as much time together last year as Blaine hoped they would, though, and his boyfriend never seemed to have time for him. It eventually led to a very toxic situation followed by a messy break-up this summer. Blaine shocked everyone when he showed up with short, pink hair at the start of his Sophomore year, desperate for a change.
Blaine has always loved performing and with older brother like Cooper Anderson, it was no surprise that he started to sing and dance as soon as he learned how to walk and talk. He had his first piano lessons when he was five and singing, acting and dancing lessons soon followed. While being a Broadway actor is his biggest dream, Blaine is also interested in writing and composing, which is why he decided to major in Musical Theater and minor in Music Composition and Acting & Performance. He’s done quite a bit of community theatre in Westerville and he posts covers and rewrite covers on his tiktok, youtube and instagram on a regular basis, as well as the occasional original song or composition.
Blaine grew up in Westerville, Ohio, and as the youngest son of a neurosurgeon and the owner of a cosmetics company, he had quite a privileged childhood. He got to pursue every interest his young self could think of, from piano, singing and acting to fencing and tennis. But being an Anderson also meant having to keep up with an overcritical brother who shoved him into the background, a father with unrealistically high expectations and getting dragged along to charity events and trips to the country club on a regular basis.
Coming out in his Sophomore year in high school wasn’t an easy experience for Blaine. His mother and brother were nothing but accepting, but his father’s reaction wasn’t exactly what Blaine had been hoping for. The two of them have never been close, despite their many attempts at bonding, and back in high school, Blaine would often feel like his father hoped that rebuilding a car with him or taking him to a football game might make him straight. Although Blaine has always been great at pretending to be the perfect son in front of his dad’s friends and colleagues, or at the events the Andersons attended, things were and still are strained between the two of them.
Things weren’t exactly easy at school either. Back in middle school, Blaine used to get the occasional disapproving look from other kids, who didn’t understand his interest in musical theatre and performing, or the way he dressed. But by high school, those disapproving looks turned into slurs and people shoving him into his locker. He ended up transferring schools halfway through sophomore year after getting attacked at a school dance and waking up in the hospital several hours later. Although he sometimes regrets running from his bullies, he knows that the fresh start his new school offered gave him the confidence boost that he needed.
