‘Ugh! As If!’ Takes On The Enduring Appeal Of ‘Clueless’ | Defector
In the mid-to-late ’90s, I was part of a girl gang that invaded suburban homes across the top half of New Jersey. We left our clothes strewn
My problem is that I judge how much people value me by how afraid they are of losing me.
My problem is that I don't value my positive qualities the same way I value others'.
Lost Tribe - Gamemaster (Original)
I distinctly remember this song being included (it was the second track) on the first mix CD my first serious boyfriend gave me back in 2003 to introduce me to electronic music. Once I started compiling the songs and checking for them online, I never could find this one because there was an error with the artist or title or both. I've been looking for this song off and on for 20 years, and on Monday I found it!
I've been trying to get back into techno music lately, but it's hard because I have so much nostalgia for the stuff I first listened to. The music today is technically good, but it's very different and doesn't exactly scratch the same itch as this old uplifting trance that I used to love.
I may have to DNF this. So far it's just garbage that gets worse and worse the longer it goes on.
Saw this incredible one-room exhibit on afro futurism at the Met this weekend, and it's giving me serious interior design inspiration. I love the mix of old and new, natural and manufactured, all with purpose and intention.
My therapist shared this poem with me today, and it really resonated with me. There are some things you have to do for yourself, because yo
...is Ranma ½ isekai??
Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma ½ remake proved the significance of anime staying connected to Japan as the anime industry faces rapid changes.
This article has several (questionably written?) sentences mentioning Ranma ½ and the isekai genre in the same breath, which have me very confused:
"The hype for the series has been off the charts in the fandom due to the Isekai giant, the manga, and the previous anime adaptations have become."
"Ever since, the impact of the [Ranma ½] manga and the anime adaptations that followed has been irrefutable in the Isekai genre."
"Moreover, many fans seem to believe that the industry should try to revive older mangas or animes that have been completed already from now on as the classics come with the necessary nostalgia to build the hype.
"Which, according to them, can go a long way to improve the downward turn the Isekai genre has been on recently."
This appears to be just a shoddily-written article, in the first quote I wonder if they're referring to Takahashi having written a foundational isekai series (Inuyasha) and later on remarking that a potential remake of that series being an interesting way to revive interest in the declining isekai genre. But the lack of context just makes it sound like Ranma ½ is an isekai story in itself, which makes absolutely no sense to me.
About 0.3 seconds in I wondered to myself, am I a Vulfpeck fan now?
The answer is yes, I guess so! 🤩
As someone who works in healthcare support, we HAVE to find a new way to pronounce GPCI.
I watched Late Autumn by Yasujiro Ozu for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I was absolutely captivated by the purple sweater outfit Mariko Okada was wearing in one scene. I immediately thought of this pink sweater I have and wanted to create my own spin on it. I remembered Okada wearing light colored slacks, but I think they were actually a medium gray in the film. But I got to pull out some pieces I haven't worn in a while for this: the awesome and surprisingly comfortable hand-dyed pants I got from a flea market, and some truly strange pointy cowboy mules I got secondhand on a whim. It felt like a nice update to Okada's look, with things I already had in my closet but wasn't using too often.

I came across this painting this morning and I was completely captivated by her vibes. I love the sly, confident look in her face.
In a murderous time
the heart breaks and breaks
and lives by breaking.
It is necessary to go

I'm afraid that if I watch the movie Brazil it could ruin my life and leave me irreparably hopeless.

Thanks to a new release from the American Genre Film Archive, an obscure yet ahead of her time feminist auteur is finally getting her due.
For posterity.
