The Evolution of the Craft
To me, âwitchcraftâ is many things. It is historical, including the folk-magic of our ancestors, as well as the obscure workings documented in the witch trials. It is folkloric, with witches spoiling butter, killing cows, or stealing babies in the night. It is legendary, with witches such as Medea or Morgan le Fey crafting their fates in ages gone by.
It is also modern.
There is a witchcraft that has evolved over the past 200 years as practitioners have innovated upon older models. Each generation works with the knowledge available to them. The Wicca of 1960 is based on the pagan witch-cult theories of Margaret Murray. The âtraditionalâ witchcraft of the 2000âs reacted against the debunked theories of Murray, and pulled from older sources with the help of Emma Wilby and Owen Davies.
As new knowledge is gained, each new generation picks up the grimoire, adding new wisdom to the tome.
I do think that all of these practices have something in common. Historical, folkloric, legendary, and modern⌠in each case, a practitioner is making a pact with Other to Craft their own reality. A witch working hand in hand with gods, the âdevil,â a saint or an ancestral spirit to assert their will upon their lives.
For modern witches, each practitioner can decide what to lore to expand upon, and how to best use the past to inspire present practices. Witchcraft is a diverse set of beliefs and practices, and to each individual, a powerful framework. The point is to find a mythos that is personally meaningful, to craft a reality that is fulfilling.
So, pick up the tome, draw upon the blood of your land, listen to the whispers from your spirits, put your pen to the parchment, and Craft your own realityâŚ

As my personal grimoire here has grown, I finally felt it was time to begin compiling posts from amazing witches into lists for people to use as references in their own learning (None of this information is my own, I just feel that it needs to be shared).

"The Vedic comparisons of the various colors of dawn to horses, or the rain clouds to cows, denotes a much less mature development of thought than fine observation implied in the connection of the forked lightning with the forked serpent tongue and forked mistletoe, or symbolization of the Universe in the concentric folds of an onion." p.8 âDemonology and Devil-Loreâ by Moncure Daniel Conway
There are many correspondences found in flowers, herbs, etc. The day or hour gathered, for example. A particular quarter of the moon or from some spot where the sun or moon did not shine on it.
"No religions could, at first glance, seem wider apart than the worship of the serpent and that of the glorious sun; yet many ancient temples are covered with symbols combining sun and snake, and no form is more familiar in Egypt than the solar serpent standing erect upon its tail, with rays around its head." - page 7 in "Demonology and Devil-Lore" by Moncure Daniel Conway * The serpent is used both in Aryan and Semitic symbolism.
âď¸Sun Meditationsâď¸
đDrawing in Sun Energy Meditationđ:
This can be done right before any kind of Sun magic or working with Sun deities. Itâs also a easy way to recharge your personal energies. If youâre tired and in need of an energy boost during the day use this exercise to recharge your energy levels. Itâs also an excellent way to raise energy for any type of healing work
đIf possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if itâs cold outside, stand by a window where the Sunâs light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.
đ Close your eyes. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Take 3 deep breaths in-and-out and allow your body to relax.
đTurn your hands palm up, raise them to the sky (if thatâs comfortable, just resting them on your lap, palms open, works just as well). See the Sunâs energy streaming towards you, and then draw it between your hands until you hold a fiery, golden orb of light.
đSlowly lower your hands. As you do, see the Sunâs energy filling your body. See the Sunâs energy filling your head then lower your hands to your chest and see it filling your heart in the core of your being.
đLower your hands again and see the Sunâs energy fill the lower part of your body, going down the soles of your feet. Repeat as many times as you wish.
đGrounding Sun Meditationâď¸:
This meditation is my favorite way to ground. The sun and earth work in harmony to bring you balance and strength.
đ If possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if itâs cold outside, stand by a window where the Sunâs light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.
âď¸Hold your hands palms up. See a ray of golden light shining on you. Concentrate on the light. Concentrate on emotions being felt and physical sensations. Feel or imagine its warmth on your skin.
đTake a deep breath, and as you do, see the sunlight filling you. Take 2 more deep breaths, or until you feel filled with sunlight.
âď¸Now place your hands Palm down on the ground to either side of you. Imagine reaching down through the Earth - down, down to the fiery core of the planet.
đTake a deep breath and, pulling up the fires that are at the heart of the Earth, take 2 more deep breaths until you are filled with the fires of the Earth.
âď¸Place your palms over your heart. See the golden sunlight in the fires at the core of the Earth mix and blend as they fill in circulate through your being.
âď¸Say or think:
Fires above, fires below
Within, without I am whole

HAIL THE HORNED ONE
The day after I lit a red candle surrounded by coins, I received two calls. One was with the special needs housing I got accepted into. She just wanted to let me know that they are still waiting on the inspector to okay the room. The other was from the manager of a dollar store I'm trying to get a job at. He asked me a few questions and then said he'd get back to me tomorrow or the day after that. Furthermore, the store will still be within walking distance of the complex. It's right around the corner from this shelter but yeah, not only will it still be close but the route isn't confusing for me. I love how everything is coming together.
A Buddhist Prayer of Forgiveness
If I have harmed anyone in any way either knowingly or unknowingly through my own confusions I ask their forgiveness; If anyone has harmed me in any way either knowingly or unknowingly through their own confusions I forgive them; And if there is a situation I am not yet ready to forgive I forgive myself for that; For all the ways that I harm myself, negate, doubt, belittle myself, judge or be unkind to myself through my own confusions, I forgive myself.
