YEAH YEAH YEAH this is from a post-canon good universe ll fic where drift deduces that rodimus & megatron Caught Feelings and then proceeds to freak out and desperately try to break them up reverse-matchmaking style

But Drift is hopeful. This could all work out.

And then Megatron leans over to murmur something to Rodimus, far out of Drift’s audio range. His expression gives nothing away; stone–faced as ever, he could be berating him for leaning on the furniture, or he could be reciting poetry, for all Drift knows. Whatever it is, it makes Rodimus grin, and he gives Megatron a friendly knock on the shoulder.

It’s a familiar gesture. Rodimus is a very tactile mech, and he isn’t shy letting that fact be known. Drift has been around him long enough to deduce that, consciously or otherwise, it’s an expression of fondness and trust; he’s never once seen him try to initiate a hug with Optimus Prime, but has been witness to more unfortunate attempts at fist–bumps with Ultra Magnus (all unsuccessful) than Drift can count. The fact that he feels comfortable enough to do that—that rhythmic rap–a–tap of metal on metal—with Megatron of all bots is the first tick.

The second tick comes with Megatron’s reaction. This is what Drift expects: a scowl, a reprimand, any movement to get some distance between them. Megatron does not like being touched. That much is common knowledge. Which is why Drift is thrown completely off when, inexplicably, Megatron’s gaze only softens, and the corner of his mouth twitches; a ghost of Rodimus’s beaming grin.

Drift’s fuel pump suddenly jolts, as if it’s being rolled around in his chassis. It’s like his survival instincts are kicking on with a vengeance: something is wrong, but he can’t identify the threat. It’s gone as quickly as it comes, leaving Drift standing shaken in its wake.
