Whump Prompt #49
The team frantically searching for their missing member while the captor broadcasts the member’s torment
Sharp breaths are sucked in when the team sees them cradled in Caretaker’s arms. Whumpee doesn’t have enough strength to do so much as lift their head from Caretaker’s chest to look at them, so they just peek out from under matted locks. They know they are bloody and dirty. Thin and weak. Shattered. And it is a whole different kind of pain to know it, to know the people they care about the most can see it too.
Whumpee squeezes their eyes shut and buries their head in the crook of Caretaker’s neck, stomach churning and cheeks burning red at the shame of being seen as the broken mess they’ve become.
“Stay with me?” Whumpee asks, rather hesitantly. It’s not that they don’t trust Teammate, but they’ve never been in this position before. They’ve never needed somebody to stay this badly.
Teammate nods. “Of course,” they say, like it wasn’t even a question. They settle in next to them, giving Whumpee’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “For as long as you want.”
A stoic whumpee being taken to another room to be tortured, while the team listens. There's a twist though- there's complete silence. No sounds of any weapon being used, no whumper's voice, not even a scream. The team is assuming that it's because the whumpee is tough and is difficult to crack, but when whumper returns to them, whumpee is thrown at their feet, shaking and sobbing and looking terrified. Too much so to even tell the team what happened when they had heard nothing at all.
Oh man
Whump Prompt #135
The team wakes up, groggy, and disoriented, consciousness trickling back in blurry blinks. After a quick headcount, one member is missing.
Continued
One wall dissolves to reveal the missing member, strung up and ready to be interrogated
When the caretaker brings the whumpee home from the hospital, and the whumpee expects to be left alone to take care of themself, but they find their entire team already there, ready to take care of them. Their teammates guiding them to the couch, covering them in a soft blanket, and bringing them food. Their teammates turning on the TV and sitting with the whumpee, and one of them letting the whumpee drift off on their shoulder as another rescues the food the whumpee is holding before it falls out of their grasp. Most of their team leaving after they fall asleep, having already set up shifts so that there’s always someone there to take care of the whumpee until they’ve fully recovered, and the remaining team members sitting there, content to let the whumpee sleep.
The team is in a big collapse (a cave-in, a fallen building, whatever) and Team Leader is pinned down by debris, barely able to breathe, much less help any of their team. All they can do is try to stifle the rising panic as they listen to them screaming or crying somewhere in the dark. But what about the ones that have gone silent? What’s happened to them?
Whump Prompt #28
“You really should take better care not to lose your possessions”
The team watches in horror as their missing member is revealed in a far-too small cage, almost too covered in blood and cuts to be recognizable
The youngest/most inexperienced/most underestimated member of the team jumps in front of a bullet for the team leader, leaving the rest of the team stunned and panicking as they start to realize how much they really do need them.
The youngest/weakest member of the team constantly has to deal with the others’ judgment, derision and scorn as they struggle to prove their value. They never blame them, though. They’re the whumper’s little sibling. It’s a miracle they even earned enough trust to make it into the team’s ranks at all.
I love that trope where the group manages to escape a desperate situation. They’re all catching their breath, some are trying to laugh off the fear and stress, and then one of them starts glancing around with wide eyes, realizing that they’re one short. “Where’s Whumpee?”
“Who last saw them?”
“Weren’t they with you?!”
“I thought they were with you!”
The danger definitely hasn’t passed yet.
The whumpee is the quietest team member. Because of that, it takes everyone else way too long to notice that Whumpee isn’t answering over comms.
Prompt Thirty Two:
They’d gotten them back–of course they had, they always did. But it was different this time, the leader looks into the back seat where one of the team has the whumpee’s head in their lap. Normally by this time the whumpee would be making some joke about needing a pay-raise, or a vacation, making the team laugh in relief. This time they are silent, their eyes open and vacant, just barely trembling despite the emergency blanket they are wrapped in. The teammate holding them is running a gentle hand through their dirty hair, the whumpee doesn’t seem to notice.
The sight sends a pang of worry through the leader’s middle. The whumpee was never quiet, not even when they were on a stealth mission, which might be the reason why the whumpee was captured so often.
“Hey,” the leader calls over their shoulder as they pull into the driveway of their base, forcing a smile onto their face, “The medic is going to yell at you again, so it’s not all bad.”
The whumpee doesn’t respond, they mumble something imperceptible and the teammate holding them meets the leader’s eyes in the rear view mirror, they are worried too.
“What did you say bud?” The leader tries to keep the terrified edge out of their voice and almost succeeds.
“D-don’t bother,” the whumpee repeats, their voice normally sarcastic and dramatic is monotone, they sound hopeless and broken.
The leader puts the car in park and goes around to open the door, helping the teammate carry the whumpee inside, the whumpee doesn’t try to stifle their groans as their wounds are jostled. They set the whumpee down gently in the bed in their thrown-together medical center, teammate leaves to call the medic. For a moment leader watches whumpee, realizing that of all of them the whumpee has been in this situation the most times. But the whumpee never seemed to care, they were always ready to take one for the team, often sacrificing themselves for the others, they were so strong that to see them this broken was terrifying. They weren’t so badly injured, they had been far worse in the past, they’d only been interrogated for twelve hours this time, the whumpee usually liked to brag that their personal best was three weeks.
They weren’t bragging now. They were so pale that it made the blood and bruises on their face stand out in a far harsher contrast. Part of their uniform was ripped away revealing long slashes, not deep but long, their torso had gone almost completely purple as the bruises set in. one of their wrists was swelling, probably broken, but the medic was coming. Didn’t the whumpee know that? Didn’t they remember the time the team had uncovered them from a collapsed building after being trapped for eighteen hours, impaled on a iron spike and they had given the team a shaking thumbs up while blood poured from their mouth before they passed out? What had those bastards done to them?!
“Whumpee?” The leader starts, trying to keep themselves calm, taking the whumpee’s good hand, “What happened in there? huh? Did they use some chemical agents or something?”
It takes the whumpee a while to answer, “N-no, no-nothing crazy b-boss.”
“Did they threaten someone you love?”
“Nah, boss, ju-just the usual tr-treatment.”
The leader is silent for a moment, squeezing the whumpee’s cold hand in their warm one. Where was the medic? Something was seriously wrong here.
The whumpee broke the silence eventually, their voice ragged from emotion, “Th-they told m-me I ha-had somethin’ wr-wrong with me,” they stated, “Th-that I was sick.”
“What? Why?”
“Th-they saw the scars,” the whumpee didn’t meet the leader’s eyes.
“Is that why you’re upset?”
“N-no, M’jus, m’tired b-boss, of al-always hurting, m’tired,” the whumpee was fading, slipping toward the darkness.
Guilt washes throught the leader’s chest as they realize that they’ve taken it for granted that the whumpee was always fine, that they’d taken the loud comebacks and the jokes as anything other than gallows humor.
“Oh,” the leader let go of the whumpee’s hand, feeling so terribly responsible.
“Don-don’t leave m-me boss, I’ll g-go ba-back if you need m-me to, jus’ g-give me a minute, m’stronger th-than the others, I-I can ta-take it,” the whumpee was practically begging, tears forming in their eyes, after all the team was the only family they had, if the team needed them to get hurt, to smile in the face of torture they could do it, they could do it because they loved their family. They couldn’t lose them, and maybe if they were weak the team wouldn’t need them anymore, the whumpee couldn’t let that happen.
“Get some rest buddy, okay?” the leader’s lip trembled as tears of their own threatened to spill, “I’m not going anywhere.”
The whumpee slipped into unconsciousness at the same time that the leader decided that they were never going to let this happen to them again.
The whumpee had protected the team from harm for so long, and now it was time for the leader to do the same for them.
Whump Prompt #103
The leader pushing through sickness and injury because heroes don’t take sick days and they’re fine guys really you’re all overreacting it’s not even that-
Thanks to a past trauma, a member of the team hesitates/freezes up in the middle of a battle and ends up getting a teammate badly hurt. The others, who don’t know about the trauma, berate them for their hesitation, accusing them that it was cowardice. Whumpee takes it willingly, feeling like they deserve it.
The youngest/weakest member of the team frantically shakes the unconscious team leader as the enemy draws near. “Come on…Come on, wake up, please!” It’s too late, they’re already surrounded.
Finally the youngest grabs the leader’s weapon and scrambles onto their feet in front of them as they’re surrounded. Even if they’re scared and alone, they’ll do what Leader’s always taught them and go down fighting.
When the whumpee is exhausted, but they’re determined to continue working, even though their team has told them repeatedly to go to bed. Their teammates eventually deciding that enough is enough, and the strongest teammate just picking the whumpee up and carrying them to bed. The whumpee protesting the whole way, and struggling, trying to get their teammate to put them down, but being unable to escape there teammate’s hold. The whumpee giving up struggling after a minute, because it’s clear that they can’t win, and the teammate putting them gently in bed, then pulling the blankets up and tucking them in tightly. The whumpee trying to protest again, but interrupting themself by yawning, and then giving up because they know their teammate won’t let them go back to work. The whumpee falling asleep almost immediately after, and their teammate staying with them for awhile, just to make sure they’re really asleep and not faking it so they can get up and go back to work after they wake up.
