Have you heard the song "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic"? How relatable is it?
â Oh! Um, I donât think I am quite, er, familiar with the song? And judging from its title, uh, I donât think Iâd relate to that song that much. â
before they separated, al took a hold of her wrist. âwait.â he took out the black marker that he had been using to jot notes down about the labyrinth while he was on his shift earlier, and used it to draw a rune hastily on her skin. he attempted to make it as clean and neat as possible, and while it wasnât his best work, it would hold for minor scrapes and abrasions. âtry not to get hurt,â he said, and it registered that he didnât even know her name, or even which camp she had come from, or who her godly parent was. he squeezed her wrist before releasing it.  âgood luck.â
She doesnât know why, but whichever did this stranger scribbled on the back of her hand gave her comfort. Under different circumstances, Marcellina would have looked at him oddly and probably shoved him off. But the young adult has accepted the fact her life would never be normal; and this just one of the numerous circumstances that would constantly prove that fact. Nodding solemnly, she assured the male, â...Y-You too.â
Her actions, despite that uneasy feeling that was starting to upset her stomach, were surprisingly sure as she inched her way out from their hiding spot. Until this very moment, Marcellina wasnât quite sure on how on earth is she going to distract one angry-looking serpent that was out for demigod blood. Fortunately, with a luck like hers, it didnât take her long enough to capture the monsterâs attention --- the crunching sounds that her shoes were making initially made its gaze flickered towards hers. Unfortunately, with luck like hers, its attention for her was apparently not long enough for it zeroed its vicious serpentine eyes at the far stronger demigod who was still looking for an opening for the plan that theyâre having.
Panic, alongside with poor thought process in amateur combat, made her mind sizzle and her throat swelled up with her silent scream. Unthinking and purely riding on her instinct this time around, Marcellina threw her dagger with much force that she has, squarely hitting the corner of its dull amber eye. It wasnât that much of an impressive hit --- since the monster was still not bursting into dust, but at least its attention and anger was at least directed solely at her not him. At least this guy could go on with his own part of the plan, the only problem that she has was this monster was absolutely going to kill her.
{ --- So much for being a distraction. } came her thoughts as the monsterâs tail slammed across her abdomen, immediately sucking the breath out of her lungs. While she was convinced that she probably broke something within her, the impact of the monsterâs force, that did not hurt her as much as she expected it to be. Something seemed to cushion her fall against the dank walls of the Labyrinth, yet that didnât stop the monster for still slithering towards her direction. Out of sheer desperation, Marcellina tried to imitate the otherâs finger snap move to summon her dagger with her powers or to even just hide her just the way it did for the two of them earlier or just anything to aid her situation right now. As expected, nothing happened; itâs only up to that guy on whether sheâs going to live or sheâs going to die.
( She really hope that luck would be by herself this time around. )Â

Once back behind his work bench Kol leaned his weight against it, one hand support himself on the top, âNope, no problem. Donât worry. I can help you!â And he hoped he wasnât sounding to eager about the prospect but he really way. âWell it doesnât have to be a sword. Thereâs loads of other options too.â Kol bit his lip a little as he looked at her a little closer in consideration, swords werenât for everyone that was true enough. âMaybe a dagger? Or if you want a bit more range a spear could work too.â Taking a step back and bending down Kolby pulled out the two dagger he had made earlier â they were simple things really with little to no decoration and a few scrapes on the blade where he had started to get bored and careless. âSomething like this? Or if you want even more reach I swear I saw some bow and arrow moulds in the back. Or we could make you a sword thatâs a bit lighter than the ones in the shed.â He bit his lip again to stop himself talking, a little worried he might be overwhelming her with information and options.Â
His eagerness was infectious; if anything, it was making her excited to make her own weapon despite her lack of experience. She just really hope this will do just fine for this one. Her brows furrowed as she listened to the male, concentrating on the bits of info he was trying to fill her in. âWell, I have been told that I have a good throwing arm?â she said, remembering her brief stint with her half-brother in the Labyrinth. While her eyes had been curiously looking at the idle spears in the workshop, thinking that it would probably be the best weapon for her strongest suit, thereâs just something about the daggers that he pulled out compels her to wield one of those. Suddenly, an idea struck her. âUm, well, I was thinking that Iâd like to have a weapon that I could use both as a long range and not at the same time? Like a dual purpose thing? Though I would really love a dagger or two as well but I get the hunch that I wonât just do well with just that.â That incident in the Labyrinth was enough proof of that. âDo I make any sense? Iâm so sorry if Iâm not making any sense! I hope you forgive me for being so indecisive and vague. I am probably making it hard for you to assist me. Again, I apologize.â

It didnât escape Annabeth that Marcy had most likely been thrown a lot of information in the past few days and weeks of her being new to their world. âI know itâs a lot to take in,â she said with a half-smile. At least it appeared that the young woman was adjusting decently. And it didnât hurt that she preened Annabethâs ego somewhat. But the answer of Hecate made a new emotion flicker over Annabethâs features for a split second, as she couldnât help but think of alabaster when the goddessâs name was mentioned. âOh soâ do you have much experience with magic? Or the Mist perhaps? And I know itâs strange to really comprehend that oneâs parent is a goddess.â With a single nod, Annabeth confirmed the other girlâs suspicions. âAthena,â she said with an all too proud smile.Â
Marcellina, for her part, canât help but to smile wryly. âYeah, it really was. You should have seen me at my first week â I was a confused mess. Even more so than this.â Inwardly, she cringed; she might have been looking like a complete idiot all that time and she has been realizing this just now. Her preoccupation with her first time experience in Camp Half-Blood made her almost unaware of the blondeâs brief flicker of emotions at the mention of her parentage. Nonetheless, she decides that was none of her business and tried not to bring that up. âOh, I â I donât? Not really? One of the reasons why my mom being Hecate is still not sinking that much for me, to be honest. At least with your mom itâs obvious that you are Athenaâs child.â
just to mess with marcellina, al ended his levitation spell on the rock with a finite incantatem said in an exaggerated british accent and a wave of his hand. âpractice makes perfect, marce.â a slight furrow creased his eyebrows. âand youâre not a squib.â
as marcy addressed the stranger who had been watching them, alabaster turned his gaze towards her (ella), and at marcyâs next words, he and ella both froze. big brother, marcy had said. alabaster watched as something seemed to cloud over ellaâs features, and then he knew that even though he didnât know her, she knew of him. âno, i donât we have,â he said slowly, and he reached out with his right hand so that his forearm was visible, the eight black lines of his tattoo stark against his pale skin. âiâm al.â
Rolling her eyes at its fullest, the youngest child of magic grumbled under her breath, âWell, now, youâre just showing off.â Her lips twitched in amusement at the awful attempt at a British accent of her brother, shaking her head in resignation in return. âIâm pretty sure I am, Al. But that wonât stop me from trying, though.â
Partially oblivious to the wary tension between her two siblings, Marcellina scratched up their expressions as something akin to what people might see in a stranger at first glance. She wanted to smack herself; right. Thereâs this whole duality thing with the gods that somehow birthed to two separate camps --- so the possibility of them probably not knowing each other were marginally wide. âI met him in the Labyrinth, which is kinda a long story. Which also leads to him teaching me magic as well. So here we are.â
rllybadluckcharm:
âI feel like weâre already cursed though? LIke, weâre stuck here and I dunno if I can even go back to school? Like, no one has talked to me about education or placement or if thereâs, like, a bus?â Dimi had a lot of problems with this forced kidnapping that brought him here but the biggest was the lack of information the campers had. âFor now. And, yeah, I mean at least theyâre, like, based on real moms or whatever. Not that my momâs not real.â
âThatâs actually true! Now, come to think of it, the only education-related institution that they have here is that New Athens University? Though Iâve heard thereâs this chariot thingy in the Labyrinth, but I donât know if theyâre just rumours.â In a world where you think it only exist in fiction, itâs quite hard to distinguish which of the things being said to you was real or not. âYeah, I get you. I just wish sometimes that I grew up with a parent-figure, you know? Must be nice.â
xmcxine:
The otherâs surprise didnât come as a surprise to Maxine. She had witness numerous newbies get shocked by the not-so-mundane things that are happening around them. âNow you have to re-do those lessons because you didnât listen. Better listen next time.â She told the other, âPlease, Iâm not your teacher to tell you everything.â
âItâs hard to focus on pretty much everything when you have ADHD. So thereâs that.â Marcellina wrinkled her nose, âAt least I know I had that for combat purposes. And Yeah, I know. I was just, um, asking.â
thrillofthechase:
âPretty much,â Annabeth grimaced at the confirmation of them being monster bait. Sheâd seen all too many during her time outside of the Camp and city. âAnd yeah, basically. Good job. If a demigod didnât inhabit any abilities from their parent then most likely they simply choose a form of combat that suits their physical strengths and personality. And it definitely doesnât mean theyâd suck at combat. There are a good amount of demigods who can easily hold their own against someone with abilities. Including yourâs truly,â Annabeth finished with a little smirk. âItâs all a matter of how hard youâre willing to work.â Taking a closer look at Marcy, it was impossible to tell her parentage at a mere glance. âStaying on the topic- whoâs your parent?â
âWell, thatâs...peachy.â she responded quite meekly at the confirmation, unsure how to react. While she was well-informed of how wonderful a demigod life could be, Marcellina couldnât help but to feel a little fearful when the situation calls for it. âOh, wow. Thatâs a very handy skill if not just impressive.â Can this girl canât get any cooler? Annabethâs slowly climbing up her âfavourite peopleâ list by the second. âOh! My momâs Hecate, apparently. I still havenât absorbed that fact yet, if Iâm being honest.â her gaze met the blondeâs, expression curious. âWhat about you? Whoâs yours? Although judging from your statement earlier, Iâm guessing itâs between Athena or Ares.â

When you avoided camp so much it became a weird experience to even walk through the woods. It wasnât like she hated camp, quite the opposite really, camp had been some of the best times of her life. But seeing so many new people for such a bad reason almost made her see the place in a different way. For her it had been a choice to come here; it had been a safe place that she could call home. For most of these people there hadnât been much of a choice in their location at all. She heard them talking before she saw them; for her recent meeting with Marcellina she could easily recognise the girls voice, but Ella was sure she hadnât heard the males before.Â
Walking around a tree she came into the small clearing where they were stood talking. Ella frowned, not sure what she had just walked in on. As far as she could remember this boy had never been at camp while sheâd been there, yet he seemed to know a lot about magic. âHeyâŚeverything okay over here?â She asked, directing her question towards Marcy more than the stranger.Â
his mouth twitched. âi was also twelve years old, and yelling harry potter spells in the middle of the forest, so nothing you are doing right now is more embarrassing than anything iâve tried.â the rock rotated lazily in the air on an axis as his focus wandered elsewhere. âbesides, itâs only your first lesson with me, and iâm not so bad.â
startled at the sound of a strangerâs voice, alabaster whipped his head towards it and his rock spun wildly. he hadnât put up any wards before they had started and hadnât heard her approach. âum, yes. everythingâs fine. were youâlooking for anything?â he was relieved that it was someone he didnât know. he didnât know what he would do if it had been someone like annabeth who had come across their lesson.
Despite herself, Marcellina couldnât help but to snort with laughter at the image of little Al shouting Harry Potter spells with a random twig from the ground. âNow thatâs a relief. That really alleviates my concerns about being the Squib of the family. Even if itâs just a pinch.â
A familiar concerned voice both caught the two siblingsâ attention right away as they turned away from their guinea pig rocks and faced the newcomer. The youngestâs confused frown morphed into a delighted beam as she sees who just joined them in the middle of the forest. âElla!â she exclaimed, leaving her spot to move a little closer to her sister. Without further ado, Marcellina immediately gushed to her, unbeknownst on the repercussions of her words later on. âAlâs just teaching me how to do magic right now and honestly I donât think our big brotherâs not doing a swell job right now since I still havenât made that rock move.â she giggled lightly, throwing the male a cheeky teasing grin before turning back to Ella. âI was beginning to feel frustrated until you came along, to be honest. Would you like to join us?â
xeipotexviakol:
Kol nodded as she talked; this really was the place to come to find the right weapon or better yet, make your own. âRight, right, well youâre in the right place!â He gave the girl what hoped was a reassuring smile, she seemed a bit out of place in the forges, but Kol couldnât help but feel excited about the prospect. Helping someone else make a weapon sounded like a lot of fun right now. âDo you know what type of weapon you want? Thereâs some cool templates and stuff if you want to more classic look or you can go off book and just make something super cool!â He asked, moving back around to the work bench he had just vacated and gesturing for her to follow. âWait, have you ever made a weapon before?â Sometimes Kol forgot that not everyone was as experienced in the art of sword forging.Â
Relieved that she did come to the right place, the child of magic approached the guy a little closer, tilting her head in confusion at his question. âOh, wow. I â I actually havenât thought of what Iâd want for a weapon since I wasnât aware until a few weeks ago that I actually needed one for all my life. All I know is I donât think swords are meant for someone so tiny like me.â she smiled impishly, embarrassed at her lack of knowledge â somethingâs sheâs becoming more and more aware of the longer she finds out new things here in Camp Half-Blood. âAnd, ah, no. I have no experiences whatsoever in forging a weapon. Will that be a problem?â Marcellina wanted to smack herself; of course that would be a problem! How are you supposed to make a weapon if you donât know how you do it in the first place? âIâm willing to learn if Iâm not much of a bother from your work.â
xmcxine:
Maxine pouted in thought, never really figuring out what was surreal anymore given that it was her day to day routine. âWell, Iâm not really sure anymoreâŚâ she mumbled, then lit up at a thought, âAh, when you go near the lake, donât be surprised at people going in and out of the water like amphibians. Theyâre like tree nymphs⌠but water.â
Marcellina blinked, an âOâ immediately shaping her lips. âChrist, wow. I really wished I listened very carefully to that Greek mythology lesson back in high school because of this. Thanks for the fair warning, though. Anything else to add? Like...I donât know, actual flying pigs or something?â
thrillofthechase:
âWellâ when monsters and our own are continuously coming at us and trying to kill us itâs the least I can do.â Lifting her arms to stretch them out, Annabeth didnât miss a beat before answering. âItâs not really a yes or no answer. Obviously people who have inherited abilities from their parents tailor their fighting style around those. Like Percy with his hydrokinesis, and Piper with her charmspeak. For most children of Athena and Ares, we can pick up any weapon and simply just know how to use it because our parents are involved in strategy  and war. But in the long run, what really matters is how you use what youâve been given or not given, not what youâve been given in and of itself. So perhaps a Mars child would be better than someone else at combat with a sword or some other standard weapon, but put them by the sea with a child of a water entity and theyâre toast. Does that makes sense?â
The younger demigod nodded, mimicking the blondeâs movements. âSo, we are really are a monster magnet and the only way we can repel them is through combat or camp. Got it.â Silently, Marcellina wondered how on earth does the blonde do the whole stretching routine while explaining her answer without a slight strain of breath. âSo, youâre saying that oneâs combat style depends on their godly abilities and how well do they use that ability to aid them in their combat. Did I get it right? And, um, what about demigods who didnât inherit their godly parentâs abilities/superpowers? Does that mean theyâll suck at combat as well?â
rllybadluckcharm:
âUh, okay. What if itâs, like, as bad as they say? Why donât we just find the tape instead? For this bucket list.â Dimi didnât think heâd ever made a friend this quickly but then again not a lot of people knew what he was going through. âWoah, Like, seriously? Me either. Iâve just consumed, like, a lot of media or whatever.â
âWell, as far as my terrible luck goes, the least we could end up with is a cursed life.â  Marcellina grumbled under her breath, wincing slightly at the fact that she just said that one out loud. âIn which I highly doubt, since â â Iâm technically cursed with these hands. â â people who claimed who have seen it are still alive and breathing, right? And yeah, same. I only have media to see what a real mother looks like even if itâs a scripted one.â
âclosed starter for @stavrodromi & @ellaofmckinley
it was surreal to be back on the grounds of camp half-blood, and there was a moment as he and marcy exited the labyrinth where he had thought that the barrier around the camp wouldnât let him through. not that alabaster had enough courage to actually go to the camp. they were still only by the entrance in the forest, by zeusâ fist. his notes from before the war had still been hidden behind a couple of stones, and when he looked at his lopsided handwriting that his fourteen-year-old self had written, it almost felt like time hadnât passed.
alabaster shook his head, his hair falling into his eyes. âno, no. youâre doing fine. you just have toâthink less about it.â for alabaster, magic was less about spells and charms and more about intent; latin and runes were just one possible conduit out of many to take. like marcellina, he didnât have the chance to get taught by someone who knew how to practice magic, and had only taught himself. teaching her felt like a release, like an injustice set right. âyouâre doing well, really,â he insisted at her disbelieving look. âlook, i was horrible when i first started.â
Marcellina was starting to regret the fact she unwittingly exposed her non-magical wielding ass to her brother on the very first day that she have met him.
At least, the offer of a well-versed child of magic teaching her to how actually manifest her untapped magical powers sounded great at that particular moment. She supposed she could also blame her easy compliance to her adrenaline fueled body back then as well â the exhilaration of it all making her feel like she could do almost everything in the world...including magic and mist manipulation.
Right now, however, was an entirely different story. Far more different from those few lonely days of just arriving in Camp Half-Blood wherein she seclude herself from everyone in order to teach herself magic through reading every scrolls and books that her cabin can offer. Someone was actually monitoring her actions this time around. While the younger child of magic thought the mental pressure that was making her big brother proud could do a little push to her ( lack of ) abilities, the fact that the humongous rock still havenât changed its form after almost an hour trying proved her and her brother the otherwise. âStop patronizing me, Al.â Marcellina groaned, kicking a small stone on the ground in frustration. âI am literally doing nothing to that rock at all. Plus, the mere fact that youâre saying you were horrible the first time around already implies you still wielded magic that time. And I am barely doing anything at all!â
rllybadluckcharm:
âDude, maybe? I, like, wouldnât be surprised if it was. Is that why no one can see it? Yeah. Okay. Like, everyone keeps telling me she might be? And, like, I donât know? How am I supposed to know? And isnât, like, every mom scary?â
âItâs official: weâre making that elusive tape seen as our bucket list.â she declared, clearly amused at the thought. âWell, uh, I wouldnât really know the answer to that since I never had a mother figure to begin with.â
thrillofthechase:
Annabeth headed off towards the fields at a brisk pace. âWellâ not like every second of every day. But I like to help train the newcomers and other people.â Fighting was something Annabethh understood with every fiber of her being, and it was nice to get to feel that understanding when she was teaching others. Picking a spot on the field, the daughter of Athena began to do a few more stretches. âAlright do some stretching and then weâll start.â
âThatâs very nice of you, Annabeth.â The younger demigod told other kindly, feeling a sense of ease under the blondeâs companionship. As they settled on a slightly perfect spot on the field, Marcellina obediently followed the blondeâs instructions before voicing a concern out. â â Okay, random question: do the parentage affects the combat style of a demigod? âCause I noticed people inherit whichever their parents are symbolizing, so, does that mean that the Ares and Athena kids have an advantage because, yâknow, war and stuff?â
xeipotexviakol:
So far the hunk of metal was telling Kol nothing. It was as silent as, well, metal. The sound of another voice in the room made his head snap up and over to the direction of the door where a girl now stood, looking around and looking incredibly out of place surrounded by unfinished weapons and rags. âHi! Yeah, over here. Hi.â He cringed internally at himself, who says hi twice? He moves out from behind the workbench heâd been behind for several hours, wiping his hands on his already dirty jeans before stopping a nice distance away from the girl, at least now they didnât have to shout to be heard over the sound of the forges in action. âDo you need something?âÂ
Somehow, among the noisy environment of the forges, someone has heard her timid call. She forced herself not to be that jumpy at voice who answered her. Still, it was nice to be noticed despite of looking like a sore thumb sticking out from this place. âYeah, hi! I was told to go here regarding weapons?â Marcellina told the guy who moved out of his workbench, feeling a bit awkward for being so out of place in here. âI know thereâs a shed where you can pick your weapons but...nothing suits me in there?â It wasnât a lie, but it wasnât the full truth either. Again, her fear of accidentally cursing an object and endangering its next possible user overpowers her every time. âSo, I was instructed to go here and make my own weapon. Except I donât really know how, so, here I am., hoping for the best.â Â
