Coffee, coffee, and more coffee; no brew was strong enough to curb the pounding of war drums at her temples. Why the hell had she pulled an all-nighter over a case she would inevitably win? Was it for the satisfaction of once again running circles around the opposing side, or fear of failing and losing everything she’d invested with the growing firm? “How much coffee is too much coffee? Asking because I’ve had three cups and it’s not even ten AM. I have court in an hour and I swear to God, if I get challenged on a clear-cut custody battle, I just might get a contempt of court on myself.”

“guess it depends on how much you can drink before you have to take a piss,” colter responded obnoxiously, tapping his fingers around his cup. “you know, i always thought coffee addicted women were just somethin’ that the television made up but here i am in the presence of one. one of those strong, powerful women who get the job done in heels, as my sisters would say. i think i might be a little intimidated.”

“booze barn, hands down. anyone who says any different is a liar or just ain’t never let themselves loose enough to have any fun. where else you gonna find a mechanical bull and line dancin’ in the same place without goin’ to god knows where? that’s what i thought. you all high classers can have that hopped fox, me and my people will stick to the barn.”

dumbest thing they’ve ever done?

“had a crush on a girl in high school who wore glasses. kinda felt bad that she didn’t have contacts so my dumb ass went home and stared into a lightbulb for i don’t know how long. i thought i’d end up havin’ to get glasses too and we’d be able to have somethin’ in common. needless to say, it didn’t work.”

what is their favorite smell and why?

“tell me somethin’ that smells more heavenly than a pork butt slow roastin’ in a barbecue pit. that’s god’s musk right there. hell, anythin’ that’s bein’ grilled or roasted up is an open invitation for me to stop by and become your new best friend. and i reckon my mama’s perfume smells pretty nice too.”

“july, summertime, baby. by now y’all know my love for barbecue but my love for the greatest nation on earth is even bigger. i’m proud to be an american, and i’m damn proud to participate in the annual kayak race too. to quote one of the greatest’s sir ricky bobby, if you ain’t first you’re last, and i ain’t ever last, darlin’. if you see me out rowin’ when i ain’t drinkin’ or workin’, mind your business. you know what’s up.”
