Jason Everman was kicked out of two bands that went on to incredible fame. Then his life became even more interesting.
Must-Read Internet. —Lars
This time on Coolest Thing All Week: the true story of the (un)luckiest musician ever, and how he learned to choose his own path.
Watch this! - Some seriously clever digital PR. Use your iPhone to play a vinyl LP! Take a look…

Here’s a fuller explanation from Spin.
Now presenting a new segment on Steal This Thunder: the coolest thing all week. Our inaugural post? An attention-grabbing 2D vinyl record player that works with your iPhone to play a record. Pretty damn cool, indeed.
The band's third album continues a tradition of songs that unfold like mini-suites, hopscotching from one melodic figure or time signature to the next with a playwright's sense of structure.
Oh so very excited for this. I've gotta admit: I'm a sucker for alternating guy/girl vocals, and it's a trick that Lemuria pulls off in spades. Look no further than "Brilliant Dancer" to see what I mean.
So this is great: Twin sisters Katie (Waxahatchee) and Allison (Swearin’) Crutchfield cover Grimes’ “Oblivion” for Rookie Mag.
A mini-P.S. Eliot reunion to cover a Grimes song? Cool cool cool.
Brooklyn is showing some gratitude to the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, known as MCA, by renaming the Brooklyn Heights playground that he visited as kid after the rapper who died of cancer last year. MORE
1 year later.
RIP MCA.
Long live New Yauch City.
This is what it's all about.
Hey you're great
Someone knows this thing exists?

All day, err'day.
Portugal. The Man - "Evil Friends"
I can't get this out of my head.
Lemuria - "Brilliant Dancer"
Sheena Ozzella's voice is sweet as ever on this new Lemuria track. I'm definitely looking forward to their upcoming June release.
The Front Bottoms - "Twin Size Mattress"
This is for the snakes and the people they bite; For the friends I've made, for the sleepless nights; For the warning signs I've completely ignored. There's an amount to take, reasons to take more. It's no big surprise you turned out this way. When they close their eyes and prayed you would change And they cut your hair, and sent you away You stopped by my house the night you escaped With tears in my eyes, I begged you to stay You said, "Hey man, I love you but no fucking way"
Parquet Courts - "Stoned And Starving (Live at KEXP)" Dynamic film editing, exciting new music, gloriously off-kilter guitar noodling. All the more reason to enjoy KEXP.
Frontier Ruckus - "Semi-Charmed Life (Third Eye Blind cover)"
Chock up another win for AV Club's Undercover series: this week, Frontier Ruckus transforms Third Eye Blind's upbeat 90's classic into something more like a Neutral Milk Hotel song (musical saw and all). Between Matthew Milia's tender vocals and the perfect trumpet and melodica accompaniment by Zachary Nichols, this cover fires on all cylinders. A song about crystal meth never sounded so saccharine.
sometimes he rhyme quick, sometimes he rhyme slow
Swearin' - "Movie Star"
You and me don't earn much pay, but you and me got enough to get away, if we want to
The Cribs - "Come On, Be A No-One"
