Every now and then I get to hear/see people call colours things that make me wonder if they need to get their colour vision checked or if nobody knows what a colour actually is

For instance!

In the Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC, you can get the outfits of a handful of characters, including Jacinthe.

This is Jacinthe. She is wearing a light purple. Purple, not pink. (I have seen her outfit described as pink before.)

You can get her outfit in two different colours, one called lilac (y'know, a purple, the one Jacinthe wears) and another called shell pink.

Shell pink is remarkably orange and honestly not super pink! That's very definitely closer to orange than it is to red.

Is this like. A part of the colour wheel that people are bad at? Am I just more aware that colour names actually mean things?
