Steve Harrington has been your best friend for as long as you can remember. You had met in the 5th grade when you were both 10 years old. You had instantly clicked when you had fallen over and he had come over and shared his sandwich with you to cheer you up. Ever since then you’d been inseparable, sticking by each other through the toughest of times. You’d stood by Steve through his asshole phase and his relationship with Nancy, even though it had pained you to see him with her. He’d stood by you when you’d tried to distance yourself from him when your feelings became too much. You’d protected each other against the threats from the past two years. You’d offered him comfort when things got a bit rough at home with his parents.
And that’s how you ended up here, a short while after the events with the Mind Flayer and the demodogs, the two of you laid on your queen-sized bed. You were laid flat on your back, hands locked on your stomach, staring up at your white roof. Steve lay silently beside you, his right hand tucked behind his head, his other drumming a beat on his shaking leg. You reached out a hand, gently placing it over his, making his eyes snap to you.
“You going to tell me what happened, Harrington?” you smiled reassuringly, a hint of sympathy behind your words. You knew how hard his parents were on him sometimes and you were worried at his uncharacteristic silence.
“There’s not really much to tell,” he mumbled. “You know, same old same old. I’m a disappointment to the Harrington name, I’m never going to achieve anything, no-one’s ever going to love a screw-up like me, blah blah blah..” he closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh.
You felt your heart break a little at the deflated look on his face, your thumb rubbing soothing circles onto the back of his hand. You turned your head to look back towards the ceiling, letting out a little sigh of your own. “I hate him..” you mumble. You can see him send a confused glance at you from the corner of your eye. You look at him, a cheeky, comforting smile on your face. “Your dad. I always hated him.” Turning back to the roof, you let a disgusted look cover your face. “I remember we were at your house when we were 12. We were running around outside and you fell over, you had a nasty cut on your knee. I remember you started crying and you attracted the attention of your parents. He came over and grabbed your face. He told you to stop crying, because only pussies cried and I remember wanting to punch that stupid look off of his face, to tell him that there’s nothing wrong with crying. From that day, I’ve never liked him.” you finished, looking back over at him with furrowed brows.
Steve felt his heart stop at the sad smile on your face, he couldn’t believe that you remembered that and had the confidence to tell him you hated his dad to his face. You watched him shift himself on the bed, coming to lay on his side facing you, head balanced on his hand. “Yeah I remember that day” he smiled fondly at the memory, making your heart flutter. “I remember after my dad left, you rushed to your backpack and pulled out some band-aids. I remember you smiled at me and put it on my knee. You pressed a kiss to it and I remember we both were blushing like crazy” he chuckled, looking fondly into your eyes.
You let out a laugh too, staring back into his eyes. You felt your heart jump at the way he was looking at you, blushing and turning your head to try and hide it. You don’t know what came over you, maybe it was the way he looked at you or the fond memory he just reminded you of but you decided to just be honest with him. “You know..” you started, taking a deep breath and hoping this wasn’t going to ruin everything you had. “That was the day I realised that I liked you..” you said, looking directly at the roof, fearing his reaction. When he stayed silent, you continued.
“From that day on, everything changed. Every time I saw you, my stomach felt like it was going to explode with butterflies. As we got older, my feelings only got stronger but I never told you in fear that you wouldn’t feel the same. When you started to get more popular, and you made friends with Tommy and Carol, I started to realise you probably wouldn’t ever look at me that way. Then, you got your ‘King Steve’ reputation and then you started dating Nancy and my heart broke. So, I tried to distance myself but you were still my best friend, you know. I tried dating other people to take my mind off of it and it worked for a while. And then you broke up with Nancy, and you came to me for help, and everything came back. But, then, of course, you went back to her.” you paused, letting out a sigh.
“I tried to convince myself that it was never going to happen and I pushed away my feelings. But then you showed up at my window,” you turned to look at him, met with the sight of him gazing at you softly, and you smiled. “That night, after the party and Nancy, you looked so heartbroken and I wanted to kill Nancy for ever hurting you. But I still couldn’t tell you how I felt because I was so fucking scared Steve. I still am.” you ran a hand over your face, trying your hardest to push away the nerves and continue.
“I actually did pluck up the courage to tell you, until you came over to tell me you were going to apologise to Nancy. My heart broke and I think I decided that I needed to stop dreaming. And then, we got dragged into the whole demodog business with Dustin and the kids and I didn’t really have time to think about you because I was kind of focused on staying alive.” you chuckled, staring down at your hands. “But then Nancy and Jonathan became a thing and I feel like we’re becoming even closer than we were before and I’ve fallen harder than ever.” you smiled, shaking your head in disbelief. “And now, I’m starting to realise that I’ve probably ruined everything and lost you and-”
You were cut off by Steve cupping your face gently in his hands and a pair of lips connecting with yours. You froze into the kiss, causing him to pull away. “M’sorry” he mumbled, pressing his forehead to yours, lips glistening. “You were rambling and I had to stop you somehow.” he smiled, looking at you lovingly. “In case that didn’t confirm it, I’m in love with you, Y/N. I have been since I first met you when you fell over on the first day of 5th grade. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that you’d feel the same.” he grinned, tongue running over his lips, thumb rubbing against your cheek. You sat, mouth agape in shock, trying to take in what he had just told you.
“But Nancy-” you started before he gently shushed you. “Nancy was never the one I really wanted. I mean, sure I had feelings for her and she managed to push my feelings for you down for a while, but when I came to you that night, after Nancy told me what she did” he started, grimacing at the memory of that night. “You were so understanding. You cared about me, like no one ever had before. When I came to tell you I was going to apologise to Nancy, I wasn’t going to apologise for our fight. I was going to apologise for what I was about to tell her.” he said, whispering the last part softly. You stayed silently, hanging onto every word. “I was going to tell her that I loved you. That it was always you. And to make sure she was okay with that.” he smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. You were shocked, eyes wide and mouth still agape.
Steve waited patiently for you to take it all in, eyes scanning your face, fearing he had come on too strong. “You love me?” you whispered, a soft smile taking over your features. “You’re not joking?” you asked, biting your lip in concern. Steve laughed, the sound like music to your ears. “I am so in love with you, Y/N L/N! That is definitely not a joke.” he pulled you into his lap, earning a shriek of surprise from you. A grin found its way onto both of your faces as you pressed your lips against his, arms snaking around his neck, reaching up to run your hands through his hair. You broke apart, both smiling like lovesick idiots.
“Clearly I’m no-one” you mumbled, hands still running through his hair lovingly. Steve’s face contorted into confusion. “Your dad” you say, “He said no one would ever love you. Guess I’m no-one” you giggled, throwing your head back in laughter at your joke. He scoffed, breaking into a fit of laughter himself. “Never say cheesy stuff like that to me again!” he joked, pushing your shoulder lightly. You laughed, nuzzling your nose against his. He felt like his heart was going to explode with how cute you were, staring awestruck at you. You both felt the happiest you’d felt in a while as you pressed your lips together once again.
i just read all your matthew fics and your characterization of him is so good. after reading chot i’m in my matthew feels so i’ll definitely be reading anything else matthew x reader that you post (not trying to pressure you into writing, i know it takes time)

You put your car into park outside of the Family Video store, Dustin, Max, Lucas and Erica practically sprinting from it as soon as you come to a halt. You shake your head at their impatience with a laugh, pushing your sunglasses further up your face and exiting the car, locking the doors before following them inside.
You had been ‘babysitting’ the kids at the Wheeler’s house when Dustin had mentioned a new movie that had recently come out that he thought would be perfect for movie night. And you, being the lovely older sister that you are, had offered to take him to go and get it. Erica had jumped at the chance to come along, at which she had said there was no reason, but you knew she missed Steve and Robin sometimes, even if she wouldn’t admit it. Max wanted to go with you because she enjoyed browsing through the movies and Lucas wanted to go because Max was going, the others were content to stay at home.
Hearing the bell go off signaling they had a new customer, Steve and Robin’s heads simultaneously snapped up and wide grins spread across both of their faces. The shorter of the two instantly ran to you, engulfing you in a tight hug which you happily returned.
“Oh, I’ve missed you” she mumbles into your shoulder, pulling back to frown at you. “Dingus here has been getting on my nerves” She gestured in Steve’s direction, who was smiling sheepishly at you.
“Hey, Henderson” He greeted, wrapping you in a quick, warm hug. “You stuck babysitting again?” he joked, looking around at the four kids you brought with you.
“Sadly, yes” you sigh, hopping up to sit on the counter in front of Steve, pushing your sunglasses up onto your head. “So, what’s new with you two?” you ask, leaning back onto your hands and studying the two brunettes before you.
“Nothing much” Steve shrugs, “The new job’s okay, but the company could be a little better.” He chuckles, playfully pushing Robin’s shoulder.
“Aw, don’t let him fool you, Y/N/N. He secretly loves me.” Robin teased, ruffling his hair and laughing as he frantically tried to put it back in place.
“He secretly loves someone, alright.” The youngest Sinclair suddenly appears at your side, raising her eyebrows mockingly at Steve.
You look between them in confusion, brows furrowing as you watch his cheeks turn a deep crimson. “What are you talking about?”
“She’s not talking about anything, right Sinclair?” he laughs nervously, glaring at the smaller girl, Erica returning the gesture. She opens her mouth to retort but is interrupted by a shout from across the room.
“We found it!” The other three teens come around the corner of an aisle, your younger brother waving the movie in his hands.
“Which movie are you getting?” Robin asks, speaking mostly to you.
You shrug at her, not actually knowing what film Dustin was after. “I don’t know. Dustin said it was new and he wanted to watch it for movie night.”
“You’re having a movie night?” Steve perks up, looking between the group, eyes lingering on you the longest.
“Yeah. You two are more than welcome to join, if you’d like” you offer, silently praying they say yes so it won’t just be you and a bunch of teenagers.
“Oh, I’m sure Steve would love that” Erica chuckles, relishing in the way her words were making Steve so flustered.
“What?” you question, eyebrows furrowed in bewilderment.
“Nothing, nothing,” Steve was quick to reassure. “So, you want a movie?” he turns his attention to Dustin, reaching out to take the tape from his hands. “Oh yeah, yeah, this one is supposed to be good.”
He types the title into the computer before handing it back to Dustin, turning back to you with a smile.
“So, are you going to come along?” You question, taking the money out of your bag to rent the movie before a warm hand covers your own, stopping you.
“No, no, no. Don’t worry about it, it’s on me” he blushes, fumbling to remove his hand once he realized what he’d done.
“Would you please quit your pining and just tell her that you’re in love with her before I vomit?” Erica fake gags, eyes narrowing on Steve.
“Erica!” he shouts, covering his face in embarrassment at his secret being outed in front of the one person he didn’t want to hear.
“Oops” she smirks, before Robin ushers the kids away, giving Steve a reassuring smile and thumbs up, mouthing a quick ‘you’ve got this’ to her best friend.
“You’re in love with me?” you whisper, eyes wide and a small smile on your face.
“Well-I-uh” he fumbles over his words, hand rubbing the back of his neck anxiously. “You weren’t supposed to find out this way. Well, you weren’t supposed to find out at all but clearly, I have incredibly poor judgement and thought it was a good idea to tell Robin about my feelings for you in front of a 10 year old and-”
You shake your head with a fond smile before deciding to save him from his rambling, reaching over the counter to grab his face in your hands and pull him towards you. He stops talking instantly, mouth agape and eyes flickering over your features in surprise.
“You’re an idiot, Steve Harrington” you whisper, before pressing your lips to his in a short, but sweet kiss, pulling away to see his face split into a bewildered smile. “But I guess you’re my idiot now.”
He laughs breathlessly, hardly believing his luck at your words. He was so sure you wouldn’t feel the same, preparing himself for months for the sting of rejection that he was convinced would come if you ever found out. No matter how many times Robin had told him that he was being stupid and that it was obvious you returned his feelings, he had never believed her, instead choosing to think that you could never want to be with somebody like him. But he couldn’t have been more wrong.
He doesn’t waste any more time, instantly jogging around the counter to wrap you up in a tight embrace. When he pulls back, he takes your reddened cheeks into his shaky hands, looking at you as if you had just made his biggest dream come true, which in a way you had. He begins to lean back in, no longer having to hide his love for you or wonder how your lips would feel against his own.
“Seriously, Harrington? Dude, that’s my sister!” The pair of you whip around to see your brother shaking his head at the two of you, but he had a huge smile on his face nonetheless. He had known how you both felt for months now, waiting impatiently for one of you to finally crack and tell the other how you felt. Erica and Robin were smirking and high-fiving, Max and Lucas giving you both an approving thumbs up.
You laugh into Steve’s chest, the sound making his heart clench with fondness as you look up at him with a love-sick smile, arms coming up to rest over his shoulders.
“So, are you going to come to movie night or?” you tease, playing with the hair at the back of his neck.

You let out an amused snort at something Steve had said as you sat on one of the couches in Mike’s living room. Max and El were tucked under each of your arms, snuggled into your side as they shook against you with laughter.
You were having your bi-weekly movie night with the party, Steve and Robin. You were currently on your third movie and, surprisingly, everyone was seated and watching the movie instead of running around or arguing like usual.
You looked around the room, smiling at the people you got to call family, however your smile faltered slightly as you wished your boyfriend could be here too. You and Billy had been dating for a few months, secretly, and contrary to popular belief, he was a real gentleman. He treated you like a princess and he’s been there for you through tough times, especially your frequent panic attacks.
You have been having trouble with them a lot more recently. You’ve struggled with them your entire life, but recently they’ve been much worse; you guessed it was because of all of the stress you were feeling with college and your future lately, alongside the constant threats you and your friends faced. Billy seemed to be the only person who could calm you down from them; he always knew exactly what to do. He had told you that he used to get them after his mom left when he was a kid, so he had some experience in the department.
As your friends continued to chatter amongst themselves, your mind drifted off to exactly what you were trying to forget: college. You recalled the pile of admission forms sitting on your desk in your bedroom, still unwritten as you had no idea what you wanted to pursue or where you wanted to pursue it. You shut your eyes tightly and felt yourself tense up, Max and El feeling it too. They sit up from your sides, sharing a worried look between them.
“Hey, are you alright?” Max asks you softly, concern evident on her face.
Your friends’ voices quickly faded, everyone’s attention turning to you, Steve pausing the movie as he caught sight of the anxious look on your face. Your heart rate speeds up as you feel their eyes burning into you, cheeks heating up under their gazes. You were starting to struggle to breathe, hands shaking as you stood from the couch, El reaching for you but you gently pushed her hands away, feeling too overwhelmed to be touched right now.
“Woah, woah” Steve stops you, standing quickly from his spot in Ted’s armchair, moving to block your path. “Hey, Y/N/N, you’ve got to tell us what’s going on.”
“I ca-I can’t” your hands reach blindly for your throat, eyes burning with unshed tears. “Please… ju-just call Billy” you choke out, collapsing to your knees by the wall closest to you.
“What did she say?” Mike breaks the silence that had fallen upon the group, shock evident in his tone.
“Did she say-” Dustin starts, but you cut him off hurriedly.
“Call Billy!” you exclaim, louder and clearer this time.
Robin’s eyes anxiously flit around the room, everyone wearing the same bewildered expressions.
“You heard the girl, shitheads. Call him!” she shouts, crouching down before you with Steve to do her best to try and calm you.
Max nods frantically, running to the hall landline to call Billy. She runs back in a few moments later, telling you he’s on his way, although clearly still unsure of why you would want to call him in the first place.
The group continues to mutter soothing words to you, all scared out of their minds at the state of the girl they adore so much, the girl who is usually the one comforting everyone else. El is shaking and Max is biting her lip anxiously, the girls holding tightly to one another’s hands, both of their eyes filled with tears.
A few minutes later, the door bursts open, the sound of Billy’s boots echoing throughout the hallway. The kids all share a concerned look before he’s in front of them in the doorway, his eyes flickering around the room before they land on your curled up figure. He pushes through the kids to get to you, ignoring their shouts of protest, nothing else on his mind but you.
“Move, Harrington!” he yells once he’s in front of you, Steve putting his hands up defensively and obeying, pulling a reluctant Robin up with him and out of the Hargrove boy’s way.
Billy falls to his knees, taking Steve’s place before you and placing his hands on your cheeks delicately, tilting your head so you’re looking directly at him. He smiles softly at you, relishing in the way your face relaxes slightly at the mere sight of him.
“Hey, pretty girl, it’s me” he coos, moving your sweaty hair out of your face. “You’re okay, just breathe, alright? Breathe with me, baby, just like we’ve practiced. Can you do that for me?” he questions gently, looking at you expectantly.
You take in his words, nodding slowly at him, hiccuping and hands still shaking. He takes them between one of his, his other hand still cradling your cheek. He mimics the way you should breathe, gesturing for you to follow him, which you do. The group watches in awe at the way Billy manages to calm you so quickly, none of them recalling a time they had ever seen the boy so patient and careful with another person, even Max.
After a few minutes, your breathing eventually returns back to normal and you fall gratefully into Billy’s arms. He rubs your back softly, head resting on top of yours, still murmuring comforting words into your ear. You turn back to the group with a shaky smile, shocked faces staring back at you.
“I’m sorry for scaring you. Thank you for calling him, he’s the only one who can help me when I get those” you whisper, clutching Billy’s hand tightly in yours.
“Are you two...together?” El quietly questions, looking between the two of you with a smile.
“Yes, we are.” you confirm, Billy looking at you in surprise. “We have been for a few months. I’m sorry we didn’t tell you guys, I guess I was just scared of how you would react.”
“I’m not going to hurt her” Billy chimes in, as if he can sense what an open-mouthed Steve is about to say. “I love her. A lot. I would never dream of hurting her.” he continues, turning to you with a fond smile.
“And I love him” you whisper, kissing his cheek before turning back to the group.
They are all looking at you with identical grins, Max’s the widest of them all. She never thought she would see the day that Billy found someone so perfect for him, someone who could help heal all of his inner demons and bring out the best version of him that she had only ever seen brief flashes of. She was even happier that it was you that he had found that with.
“Do you want to join our movie night?” Dustin asks Billy hesitantly, your eyes widening at the offer. Billy nods gratefully, standing up and holding his hand out for you to take.
“Yeah, I’d really like that. Thank you.” he smiles, an actual genuine smile that shocks the room.
El and Max share a conspiratory look before squealing, each of them grasping one of your hands and pulling you back onto the couch, instantly bombarding you with questions about your boyfriend and your relationship. You shake your head fondly and giggle at them, Billy watching you with a loving grin.
“Just so you know, if you do ever even think about hurting her, I won’t hesitate to kick your ass.”
Billy’s head snaps to the side, eyes falling on Steve, standing beside him with his arms crossed menacingly over his chest, Robin doing her best to hold in her laugh at his threatening stance. Billy rolls his eyes, secretly glad that you have a group of people who would do anything to protect you, just like he would.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less, Harrington.” he laughs, patting the brunette boy’s chest before leaning in close to him, Steve’s eyes widening a fraction. “Although, we both remember how that ended last time, don’t we?
He smirks, walking over to join you and the girls, leaving an open-mouthed Steve behind him, Robin no longer being able to hold in her laugh, the sound echoing throughout the room.

After the events with the Mind Flayer about a month ago, you, Robin and Steve all got jobs at the Family Video store next to the arcade. Well, Steve almost didn’t get the job but you and Robin managed to convince Keith to give him a chance. It was a nice job, you enjoyed being able to work with your boyfriend and your best friend, and you loved movies so what more could you ask for?
Actually, maybe it could be better if Keith didn’t stare at you like a piece of meat everyday and flirt with you whenever Steve wasn’t around but he was harmless. Except for the fact that he refused to let you and Steve work near one other. He claimed it was because being a couple meant you wouldn’t get anything done but you knew that wasn’t the reason.
But, of course, Steve didn’t let that stop him.
You were currently restocking the shelves in the horror section and rearranging them exactly how Keith wanted when you felt arms wrap around your waist tightly from behind, making you jump in surprise. You heard Steve chuckle in your ear and you spun around to slap him gently on the chest.
“Steve!” you whisper-yell, looking around for Keith.
“Don’t worry about him,” his jaw clenches slightly at the thought of his boss who’s always staring at his girlfriend. “Robin agreed to try and distract him in the back but we don’t have long.”
He presses his lips against yours, causing you to let out a squeal of surprise against him before kissing him back passionately. Your arms wound around his neck and pulled him closer to you. He places his hands on your hips, pushing you back against the shelves.
You broke apart for air, him resting his forehead on yours with a soft smile. You giggle and push him away from you gently, shaking your head at his antics.
“I’ve got to stock these shelves before Keith fires us, Steve.” you scold him, the brunette pouting like a scolded child at you. “Why are you being so clingy today?” you joke, turning back to the shelves with a teasing smile.
Behind you, his face falls at your words. He’d always been a little insecure of how clingy he was in a relationship, some of his older flings had said it was a turn off and he didn’t want to push you away because of it. He just couldn’t help it; he loved you so much and sometimes he just couldn’t grasp the fact that you were actually his.
“Oh. Do you want me to leave you alone?” he asks, hoping you’ll say no and put his racing mind at ease.
You don’t catch the hint of sadness in his voice and playfully reply, “Well, I’d like to keep my job if you don’t mind.”
You turn your head back to him, eyebrows raised teasingly before you see the hurt expression painted on his face and your smile disappears. How could you be so stupid? You curse yourself, recalling the times when Steve had opened up to you about his insecurity and you had reassured him that you would never feel that way and he could be as affectionate as he wanted with you.
You quickly drop the tapes in your hand and reach for him, cradling his face gently in your hands, turning his head so he’s looking directly at you, his arms wrapping around your middle in response.
“Hey, I’m just kidding, Stevie.” you coo at him, stroking his face softly. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking. You know how I love it when you’re clingy, it’s one of my favorite things about you.”
His face lights up slightly at your words but you can still see a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
“You mean it? You know you don’t have to say that, you can tell me if it annoys you. I know I can be a little much sometimes, but I just really love you and you looked so beautiful stacking the shelves and I couldn’t help myself and I-” he rambles, making you smile fondly and shake your head.
“Steve,” you interrupt, “Stop that, okay? You never have to apologize for being affectionate with me. I love it and I love you and that’s never going to change, alright?”
He nods, face splitting into a small grin before he surges forward to connect your lips once again, humming contently against your mouth.
“What are the rules, Harrington?”
You pull your lips from Steve’s, closing your eyes and biting your lip to stop from laughing as Keith’s voice echoes down the aisle. You look behind Steve to see Keith staring at the two of you with narrow eyes, making you step back and mockingly hold up your hands.
“Sorry, boss.” you say, turning back to the shelves with a cheeky smile.
Steve watches you with a lovestruck grin, before something hits his shoulder and he lets out a yelp.
“What the hell, Keith?” he yells, holding his shoulder as you hold in a laugh.
“Get back to your section, Harrington.” Keith retorts, pointing over to the other side of the store with raised eyebrows.
Steve makes a face at him before reluctantly walking back to his section of the store, Keith following him to make sure he gets there with no further detours.
You watch them go with an amused chuckle, catching Robin’s eye from her spot behind the counter, her shrugging and mouthing a small apology at her failure to keep Keith occupied. You grin, waving her off as you pick the discarded tapes back up, shaking your head at your idiotic, clingy boyfriend. But you wouldn’t dream of having him any other way.
That truly means a lot! And fingers crossed that itll all be fixed asap, i know how much being shadowbanned sucks :( May I ask why you deleted/took down/whatever this one fic of your old account tho if many others are still up? I'm just curious haha hope Im not crossing some line here<3
Oh it’s truly the worst! Any tips on how to fix the shadowbanning? And no, you aren’t crossing a line at all love! So I basically took down all of my Stranger Things one shots from the old account because I knew that I wanted to start posting about Stranger Things on here. I really love those imagines and wanted the chance to edit them and repost them alongside new fics and that’s exactly what I plan on doing whenever I can! Hope this makes sense <33

Pulling into the first available parking space you can find, El giggles as you finish singing a very off-key rendition to the song currently playing on the stereo. You turn to her with a grin, reaching over to ruffle her hair affectionately.
It had grown so much compared to when she first moved in with you and your dad and you loved it; it was getting a lot longer and she always came to you to try out new hairstyles on her or even to just do her hair in the morning. Hop wasn’t very good at that kind of stuff; your mom had always done your hair but when she left after Sara passed, he tried his best to fill her place. You always ended up with huge knots and tangles and it definitely wasn’t your best hair period. Joyce would always laugh when she saw you and since the first time, she would help teach you how to do it yourself.
“Are you ready to go?” you ask your sister, checking her over to make sure she’s got everything she came with. She nods with a wide smile and you turn off the engine before the two of you get out of the car.
Locking the doors, El reaches for your hand and you gladly take it in yours, squeezing it softly.
“What time did you say we were meeting Max?” you question, glancing at your watch quickly.
“She said around 1:30.” she replies, peering at your watch too. You giggle at her as you know she can’t tell the time properly on an analogue watch.
“It’s only 1” you clarify, pushing the door to the mall open. “You want to get some ice cream whilst we wait?”
Her face lights up, eyes widening.
“Is Robin working?” her tone is hopeful and your heart melts at how much she adores her. You nod your head fondly, a soft smile on your face at the thought of your girlfriend.
“Yeah, she is. Steve too.”
El’s smile widens as she tightens her grip on your hand and pulls you towards the Scoops Ahoy sign eagerly. She runs up to the counter, where Robin is sitting reading a book. She doesn’t look up as she starts to speak.
“Ahoy, what can I get you-” she says, voice monotonous until she lifts her head and sees you and El grinning back at her. “Hey! If it isn’t my favourite girls!”
She jogs around the counter, El letting go of your hand to embrace her warmly. Robin giggles as she returns the hug with the same fondness. You smile at the encounter, biting your lip gently.
Robin grins down at El before turning her attention to you, coming over and pulling you into her, glancing around briefly before giving you a brief peck on the lips. You blush and chuckle at her, muttering a small hey.
“Sit down, I’ll bring you your usual” she runs back around the counter, picking up two cones and giving you each two scoops of your favourites. You pull your purse out before she yells at you from behind the counter. “No! Put your money away, these ones are on the house.”
You tilt your head at her with a frown as she comes back over to your table, El taking the ice cream with a muttered thank you.
“Rob, if you keep giving us free ice cream, how are you going to make any money?” you scold her, taking the ice cream that she’s thrusting impatiently towards you.
“We have other customers!” she defends, smirking cheekily at you. “Hey, dingus!” she shouts behind her, taking a seat beside you.
Steve pokes his head through the backroom door, glancing around before his eyes land on your table. “Oh, hey Hoppers!” he waves, you and El waving back at him.
“Hi, Steve.” you both respond.
“I’m taking my break, dingus, so yours is over.” Robin informs him, Steve’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“I’ve been on break for like 10 minutes” he retorts, before rolling his eyes and coming behind the counter anyway. “Only because I like those two” he says, winking at you and El.
Robin’s jaw clenches.
“Can you not wink at my girlfriend, Harrington?” she scowls, before turning her attention to you and your sister. “So, what are you two up to today?”
“El’s meeting Max here in like 15 minutes so I can take them shopping” you explain, El nodding in agreement whilst eating her ice cream quickly. “El, you’ll get brain freeze” you warn, raising your eyebrows jokingly, making her eyes widen before she slows down.
“I wish I could come with..” Robin whines, placing her head on your shoulder. “I miss hanging out with you guys” she pouts.
You poke her lip playfully, giggling at her.
“Well, we’re having a sleepover at the cabin tonight. Why don’t we meet you after your shift and you can come back with us?” you suggest, her eyes lighting up at your offer.
“Yes, that sounds amazing!” she agrees, kissing your cheek before lifting her head from your shoulder.
The three of you talk between you, you and El finishing your ice cream’s, El catching Robin up on her summer. Robin teased her about Mike, El teasing Robin about you in return.
You finished laughing at a joke Robin had told you before El springs up from her seat.
“Max!” she exclaims, running to give her best friend a hug. You smile over at the two before Max sees you and Robin and grins. You both stand up and she pulls you into a group hug.
“Hey, Max” you grin, rubbing her back fondly. “Are you ready to go?” You look at the younger girls, both of them nodding eagerly.
You turn back to your girlfriend’s frowning face and giggle. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, you press a quick kiss to her lips before speaking.
“We’ll meet you back here when we’re done?”
She nods with a smile, stealing another quick kiss before you push her away gently.
“Get back to work, sailor! See you later, Steve.” you look over her shoulder and wave at the tired boy, him waving back with a smile.
“Bye ladies! Have fun” he replies, before Robin joins him back behind the counter.
Max and El each take one of your hands, pulling you from the store and heading towards their first destination.

You had just finished setting the table with your younger sister whilst your dad worked on getting the food ready when a knock on the door echoed throughout the cabin. The three of you froze, heads shooting up, wide eyes flickering between one another in confusion.
Typically, you would have recognised that knock anywhere, but the months of keeping your sister hidden from the outside world and not letting anyone other than yourself or your dad into the house made you all instinctively alert.
You wrap an arm around Eleven, pulling her protectively into your side as your dad slowly places down the bowl he was holding, making his way from behind the counter towards the front door, fists clenched tightly by his sides.
this made me want to start crying like HELLO? i usually hate the hopper!reader trope but this was so good ohmygod 😭
like steve being nervous as hell to see hopper despite them having saved the world together numerous times already? GOLD. el mimicking her dads mannerisms and being the cutest lil thing ever?? I SOBBED. steve’s monologue??? no words.
