January 30, 2014  Sauk River, Washington The end of our illustrious and fabled winter steelhead season is a mere day away as most of the Puget Sound rivers again scheduled to close for the rest of the season with a few very minor exceptions.  To round out the season, here a killer wild steelhead is suspended just before release back into the clear frigid waters of the Sauk River.  Please keep in mind these fish are by law supposed to remain in the water, state wide.  Off to other parts of WA for the next 3 months… photo Dave McCoy

December 10, 2014  Snoqualmie River, WA We are not fans of lifting fish out of water for images.  That said, this hatchery steelhead from the Snoqualmie was pretty beat up already and became dinner for that night, exactly what these fish were put there for so we do not feel as bad about it.  Obviously opinions are varied on this topic but this fish aggressively drilled a swung fly…hatchery fish will do that!  As we move through January and on into February, we are looking at winter and early spring conditions coming up quickly.  There are some steelhead around, our water levels and snow pack are low right now so that will likely impact how the fish come into the rivers over the next few months.  Lots of rain would be nice.  Hitting saltwater again tomorrow, will see how that turns out, my guess is pretty good! photo Dave McCoy
