like okay it’s posited as the story of a boy hunting down his family’s killers and yet every single arc has been about stuff that isn’t that. it’s not even on the back burner it’s just straight up not what they do in the show. instead each arc puts said boy into a new situation designed to show the effects of his neuroses for reasons we won’t fully understand until the halfway point of the series. in the meantime enjoy a curry competition and a cricket tournament. there’s also a big scary threat looming over the boy but he’s not the villain he’s actually technically the protagonist and he’s chill for now. none of this has been even tangentially related to seeking his family’s killers. just when you start to really wonder where all this is going BAM a reveal that recontextualizes absolutely everything we thought we knew about the boy. not about the family murders though. btw it turns out the Plot actually kinda started with the zombie titanic because it first laid the narrative groundwork for all This. what is This you ask? well we’ve reached a point where there’s more post-reveal story than pre-reveal story and we still have no idea. coming up on 20 years, a majority of which has been post-world’s-biggest-twist, we have no motive for who we must assume to be the villain of the current decade-long arc, not to be confused with whoever killed the kid’s parents, which is still entirely unexplored. it’s an action show it’s gloomy horror they invented jpop in late victorian britain

Rowan is a prodigal son of many vices. With the stupendous amount of wealth he's inherited, he's been wasting it away on the finer things in life. A man of both money and mystery, he's known quite well for having borne witness to a horrid tragedy that brought an end to his family and cost him his left eye. One could never ascertain this information from him directly, though. He never speaks of the past, choosing to gild it instead with the passions of today. His levity is a point of critique by many old money compatriots, but he has no interest in appeasing the lords and ladies of yore. 

He is charming and well-spoken, maintaining a lax attitude and a deep aversion to serious affairs. As such, he can come off as obstinate: resentful of authourity and social conventions he finds ill-suited to his party-heavy lifestyle. The few customs he does follow all revolve around aesthetics– fashion, decor, and hospitality. Despite being snobbish in all other areas (especially to those in his income bracket), he does possess a paradoxical respect for the service and domestic workers in his employ. His staunch dedication to carousing and ignoring current events make him a glamorous, but shallow host.
