"What a warm welcome."
He placed a hand over his hip and sighed. “Well? What’s the matta,
cat got ya tongue?”
The short nomad took a step back, shoulders beginning to quiver. She opened her mouth soundlessly. After a few more seconds of contemplation, the girl turned and started sprinting away.
From her perch on her brother’s shoulder, Pocky wildly waved at the blue nomad.
"STEP!" She squeaked and launched herself off of Ben’s shoulder, diving straight to Step’s. With as much strength as her tiny body could muster, she hugged the girl’s neck.
"STEPSTEPSTEPSTEP HI!!!!" She babbled incoherently onwards, only the words "happy, see," and "you" were clear enough to be understood.
The scientist bit his lip nervously at the short Step and cleared his throat. “Uh…h-hi Step.”
The nomad's eyes widened and her hand flew up to hover around Pocky's small form before awkwardly patting it. "H-hi, Pocky...!" That's her name, right? She struggled to speak over the little girl's babbling.
As Step gently placed a hand under Pocky for her to stand on, she addressed the tall nomad. "Hello..."
She trailed off. What was it? Brandon? Something like that.
"What a warm welcome."
"..."
"Oh! Curious to see you two."

"H-hey uh... S-Step?" a purple nomad poked her head in, a nervous smile on her face.
Step looked up from the books she had in her hands and blinked. “Bell.” Another blink. “It’s… surprising to see you.” The nomad shifted the books into a pile under one arm. “Is everything alright?”
She brought up the books and had wandered back towards a shelf. “That’s good, that’s great.” Step answered, holding up a book and brushing it off.
"Uh… a-anything new with you?" she tilted her head to the side curiously.
The nomad carefully shelved the book and moved on to the next one. “Nope.”
Being a bit short-spoken, hm? She nodded and poked her hands into her pockets.
"W-well I was wondering if m-maybe you’re not busy… Would you like to maybe… h-hang out?"
Step dared not glance up. “I, er, I have things… I need to be doing. Sorry.” The next book was placed on the shelf a bit aggressively.
Her smile turned into a bit of a disappointed look, “O-oh… I-I see… maybe another day?”
The girl gave a nondescript "mmm" as she studied the next book in her hands. "Take care, Bell." Step walked towards another shelf.
This is the most adorable thing you will see all day.

"I-I just kind of um… wanted to check up on you, i-its kind of been a while." She rubbed the back of her arm.
"… Ah." The girl tried not to look too surprised. "Yes… yes it has." Step awkwardly cleared her throat and played with the books. "Well, I’m doing good. How are you?"
"I-I’ve been good! A-a lot has… definitely happened!" she smiled sheepishly at the blue, floaty-haired girl.
