hi!! I am still around and updating this page when I find a new fic I like, but I have just not had time to read as much fic lately as I would like to 😩 I am basically just reading paddingtonfan69 updates currently tbh

Sterling's hands gently glide the glossy black cover, before opening the book and letting herself fall into it. She loves it here, loves taking the stray lunch to sit in this chair with the company of only a book and absolutely no one else.
“Twilight? Have some standards.”
So maybe not absolutely no one else.
Sterling puts her finger in her place and grins up at April, who is looking at her with an acute combination of judgement and amusement.
“Hey, it’s romantic!”
“Is it?”
“I mean, it’s supposed to be. I don’t know, right now she’s kind of just describing how pale she is.”
“Groundbreaking literature.”

"It’s 9:22 am and April Stevens is late. She was supposed to leave nearly ten minutes ago to get to school on time to catch the bus for the annual Senior Ski Trip. Instead, she’s staring at her suitcase trying to decide if she should pack the baby-blue sweater with the cute neckline or not and it’s all Sterling Wesley’s fault.
Somehow it’s always Sterling Wesley’s fault."

Sterling found herself drawn to the anonymity of the letter writing. No one made her sign her own name, so she didn’t. Just like that. She wasn’t Blair’s sister or Luke’s girlfriend or the girl with the second highest grades in the fifth grade, she was just a person writing a letter. She signed it TS on a whim, because, well, she was still deeply in a Taylor Swift phase and ever since April had just - well, she just didn’t have anyone to talk to about it anymore. So she wrote letters to some random girl miles away, bent over a big wooden table with a curated variety of gel pens. It was fun, freeing, and something that was solely hers.
And then, even better, she got them back. ___
Or, there's no way in hell that the two girls with the years long anonymous friendship who wrote letters to each other at camp and now frequently email could be the same two girls who are sworn enemies at school, right?

The day before school starts, Sterling actually spends the afternoon trying to craft a casually friendly opening line, something to break the ice, but it’s so hard. Every time she practices saying, “Hey April! How was your summer?” all she can think is, I had my first orgasm while thinking about you. And several more after, if I’m being honest.
Outside of Instagram, though, Sterling hasn’t seen April in a year. Even then, they didn’t speak. She waved at April, actually, last year outside church on Christmas Eve. April just sort of furrowed her brow and turned away.

“I don’t want to come over to your house,” April says into the phone, not bothering to try to keep the excitement out of her voice, “I want you to come over to mine. Where no one else will be there.”
She hears a sharp breath, then a thunk through the line that she's 95% sure is Sterling dropping her phone. April grins to herself until Sterling’s voice is back on the line.
“Yeah, uh, yes, I would definitely like that, yes,” Sterling fumbles, sounding slightly out of breath and April has to sit down to manage the wave of affection that courses through her.

The Wesley twins are even more annoying and distracting here than they are everywhere else, so April is frustrated when she notes that they’re both competent dancers. She could even be convinced to say that the brunette one is good.

April and Sterling have been avoiding each other since the events of S1. Now that April is in charge of planning the annual Fellowship bake sale fundraiser, some unresolved spicy tension threatens to get in the way.
April doesn’t see it coming because she’s got her head down and her phone out, texting Ezekiel and Hannah B. about hanging out after school, but she certainly feels the snowball that hits her square in the chest and explodes all over her face, coat, and her phone.
Post 1.10. Seventeen chapters of April and Sterling trying to decide if they like each other and set to the soundtrack of TSwift's Folklore because those were the two most interesting things to happen during Quarantine Summer.
One is a small purple envelope with no mailing or return address, just April’s name written in loopy handwriting with a heart beside it.
April’s belly warms. She’d recognize that writing anywhere, and the fact that there are no addresses means Sterling made a special trip to drop the letter off herself.
Five times Sterling welcomes April home. (AKA April deals with jet lag, and her feelings for Sterling Wesley.)
It’s not until later Tuesday night, when April falls exhausted into bed with only four hours left until school starts, that she realizes this is the first election night in a dozen years where she hasn’t been scared of her father. She falls asleep without even looking at her phone.
Then she wakes up.
Last night, she had purposefully avoided looking at any national or statewide results. There was something insular and safe about being in that backyard, surrounded by a specific bubble of joy that April didn’t want to break with any outside information.
April checks her news alerts, and breaks it.

Blair doesn’t let go of Sterling the whole ride home.
Sterling doesn’t speak, or look in the rear-view mirror, or stop crying; just stares blankly out the window thinking about the hand clinging to hers and about her sort-of ex-girlfriend pursuing her ex-boyfriend and about her mom actually being her aunt and about her twin sister being neither her twin *nor* her sister.
How do you mourn the loss of someone who’s still sitting right next to you?

“I don’t usually do anything for Halloween. It’s not that big a deal.” It’s all rushed out in one breath, and she’s hoping that Sterling will pick up on that (and the fact that April can’t look her in the eye) and realise this isn’t something April wants to talk about.
