Details in the streets of Chernivtsi. Ukraine. 12th of September 2017.
Part of my work in Chernivtsi was to accompany a member of the Jewish Community Düsseldorf who was born in Chernivtsi in 1936 who visited his hometown for the first time after 71 years. We walked down the streets where he lived and played as a child before the ghetto. One of his comments about coming back to Chernivtsi – it had been his past, but now it has become his present again – was the biggest reward for our work.
