Stories in Content Marketing!
“Stories are the original form of entertainment”- Jonah Berger
Who does not like a great story? Stories are part of us, they are part of our conversations and they even start conversations. A great story is memorable and shareable. Growing up, I remember my grandpa would tell us stories and for him storytelling was a way to teach us something, and when we would get in trouble my grandpa would tell us ‘remember the story a told you guys’ and he would use stories as a trigger for us not to forget the lesson of the story like Jonah Berger discussed in chapter 6 from his book titled, Contagious Why Things Catch On. he said that “stories can act as vessels or carriers that help transmit information to others.”
1. LEARNING THROUGH STORIES
My grandpa was not the only one that taught us important lessons, but my dad also played an important part in our lives. My dad always would tell us his own story of ‘hard-work’ and ‘perseverance’ my dad used mostly his personal story to teach us about life. In my own personal experience, the stories that my dad told me about his childhood has made me value the opportunities that I am being given. My dad loved to travel and So I do. But traveling sometimes can be scary. Now, that my dad is not here to tell me how to navigate the world I know I still can learn from others and a great way to do it is by listening to stories. A great company that is putting stories at their core of trust and safety is Airbnb.
Airbnb
“Unforgettable trips start with Airbnb.” - Airbnb
Airbnb is an online marketplace and hospitality service, enabling people to lease or rent short-term rooms including vacation rentals, apartment rentals, and homestays. At Airbnb, the customers and the hosts are the brand, as Airbnb doesn’t own or manage any property itself. Airbnb makes traveling a better experience not just that but it gives travelers or visitors a unique perspective on their service. The reason Airbnb came to mind was the fact that I have seen many stories of their customers, some other stories are about their host, or the person providing their house or place for other people. On their website, www.airbnb.com/stories is interesting to see that they have a section dedicated to the stories that their customers have shared, their stories are authentic and realistic because they come from the customers itself, they make me trust their service. The stories generate social currency and have practical value because other consumers are sharing their experience with other people that might be interested in the service but have their doubts, it generates practical value because those stories will make people save time or money. The video below has 64,435 views, it is interesting to see because in the video below we see how they are narrating the experience that the travelers have, but also carries who Airbnb is and the service that they provide, this means that instead of Airbnb telling the story it lets the customers tell their stories. Stories are personal that is why we trust and connect with them in contrast to Ads or commercials that make us stay away from the service.
Airbnb’s Youtube Channel has 92,887 subscribers and it is being frequently updated with new stories. There is no better way to connect, engage, and reach your customers but by giving them a story that resonates with your brand.
TOMS shoes
According to the website, which includes The Toms Story, founder Blake Mycoskie “witnessed the hardships faced by children growing up without shoes” while traveling in Argentina in 2006. “Wanting to help, he created Toms Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a new pair of shoes for a child in need.” Their One by One model is one of the key components of their story. The story is so great that moves people to share the story and become part of the movement. The toms’ story carries emotion and social currency. Toms rely on customers to tell and share the story.
A customer buys a pair of shoes, the same customer is also buying shoes for someone in need, stories like these are without a doubt worth sharing, not only do they make you share the story but it also encourages you to become part of the movement of helping people in need.
Remember a great story is memorable and shareable, it spreads like fire and stories depend on emotions. Great stories have to have value, and most important it has to resonate with the brand.
Emotions in Content Marketing.
What makes a content go viral? What role do emotions play in content marketing? Is there a link between emotions and content going viral? Those were some of the questions that made want to blog about the power of emotions in content marketing.
Here are some examples of brands using emotion as a tool to create great content, by using emotions these brands are connecting with people through stories that generate an emotional connection with the brand.
1. P&G
Going through my facebook I found this video by P&G called “Love Over Biased” what caught me to want to watch the videos is that I already knew that P&G has some great videos and I like how they use stories without selling themselves. With their ongoing campaign for the Olympics called “Thank You Mom” they showcase a mother’s love, which is a strong emotion that carries a lot of meaning, but at the end, all of us are related or connected with the message. “
#LoveOverBiased “ was posted On November 1st and so far the video has 241,134 views 1K Likes.
To be honest, I felt inspired by this video, especially the end in where we see the small girl jumping in her bed, probably dreaming, at the end we see the same girl winning the competition both mother and daughter hug and cried of happiness. Truly a great moment, which anyone can relate too, adding to that the music on the background is so touching that it gives me chills.
P&G used the word “love” to describe their campaign, in where they are inspiring women, by using the bond of a mother and daughter this generate a strong emotional moment at the end.
P&G Knows how to Roll...
INSPIRATION
“Like a girl” is another campaign that has stuck with me, and is one of my favorites, it was produced by Leo Burnett. It was so good that the campaign won an Emmy Award on 2015. “Like a girl” campaign was produced for Always, which is a brand from P&G. Why I like it so much? and Why after a long time I still can recall it? It is because it made me feel proud to be a girl. Another reason is that I remember showing it to my younger sister, who is a soccer player, and she told me that her confidence went up. So, I felt happy and proud to hear that from my little sister. So, that video gave me a feeling of encouragement and being a girl means more than what other people think. The video has 64,799,891 views and 262K likes and 31K shares. The emotion to inspire our younger generation is important, therefore wanting to share a video that promotes inspiration is worth sharing and it creates social currency.
2. Google
A recent doodle from google portrays a tribute to Selena Quintanilla. Selena Quintanilla is a Mexican-American musician, entertainment icon, and a community philanthropist. The day the doodle was released within hours it hit #1 on youtube. And Everywhere I saw on my social media accounts people were talking about it and sharing it. The video which is 1.31 summarizes the life of Selena Quintanilla, it shows when she was a little girl learning to sing to her last concert. The video brings me many emotions, it brought me memories of growing up with her music, the illustrations are really cute and it was so accurate on key aspects of Selena’s life. Not sure if it is too short, but it makes me want to keep on watching. Since the day of its launch, I have to admit that I have seen this video so many times now, I even share it with my family and friends, and even was part of my conversation with people, I was asking them how did they feel about the video. Most people said it brought them memories and it was an inspiration to see that after a long time Selena’s legacy is still alive.
3. Pero Like (Buzzfeed)
Pero Like is a subchannel of Buzzfeed. In the video below, we can see the emotions and the reaction that the google doodle of Selena Quintanilla brought to the crew of Pero Like. The reason I brought Pero Like is the fact that their video of reacting to the doodle has 231,507 views and 12K likes, that is not bad because it brings traffic to their youtube channel and it works for brand awareness, and their audience, who are also Selena Fans and Pero Like fans connect on an emotional level, the Video of Pero Like made people feel emotion.
To Conclude, Emotions are important because they create stories, and great stories are memorable, shareable and people talk about them. In the Example below, we have the first Google short video that focuses on feeling, which was a viral hit, from this video Google started to move people and build emotional connections with their consumers, from this video the famous google doodles was born.
What does Content Marketing for Latinos mean?
One of the first things I learned in my first marketing class is to understand the ‘need’ and the ‘want’ of your target consumer, by understand I mean to actually learn what their needs and their wants are. Okay, let’s dive into this week topic by understanding your latino market. Latinos are consumers that are being unserved and unacknowledged, this means that the big companies are not targeting the Latino community in the right way. I think that big companies are not fully aware that their content marketing has to change if they want to target the Latino community. Why? things are changing and Latinos are going to be the new ‘majority’, this means Latinos have a stronger consumer power more than ever. I will be discussing some main point I want you to understand from Us, the Latino Community. I hope and you find these insights helpful and find new opportunities to serve the Latino community.
1. Creating Content for Latinx doesn’t mean ‘Content Should be in Spanish’
Hispanics who speak only English at home will rise from 26% in 2013 to 34% in 2020. Over this time period, the share who speak Spanish at home will decrease from 73% to 66% -Pew Research Center
Not all Latinos speak Spanish, so stop trying to reach us by creating content on Spanish only. Most Latinos get their content in English and we prefer to get information in English, do not get me wrong we love speaking Spanish but I personally think that if you are trying to reach Latino millennial you gotta switch the way you reach us, WHY? because Latino millennials are more educated than their parents in some cases Latino millennials are the first ones to go to college, this means that this generation is been getting English content since they were kids, so do not try reach us by giving us content on Spanish because you might not be targeting Latino Millenials but older generations.
If you think that “translate your content” to Spanish is your solutions, well I am here to tell you that you are wrong. The graph below breaks down the percentage of language among Latinos.
2. Latinx get most of their content through their mobile device
Overall, 80% of Latino adults say they access the internet via a mobile device such as a cell phone or tablet- Pew Research Center
Something that I have learned is that when creating content do not think “one-size fits all” the same way we have discussed it before, each social media platform has a specific content delivery method, this means because images work great at Instagram does not mean they will work great for youtube or Facebook. In this case, you have to create content that works best for mobile devices as well as Ipads or the website, this means that you have to understand that the majority of Latinos get their content through a mobile device, so make sure that your content is responsive to all sites, otherwise you consumers might lose the interest in your content.
3. Don’t Sell rather create content that empowers and inspire
Please stop selling, especially to the Latino Millennial, we do not respond to “selling speech” like our parents or grandparents did. The moment we see a selling speech coming through we tuned it out. From my personal experience, I only buy from brands that add value to my life and brands that understand and promote diversity. Brands need to understand that Latinos connect with brands in an emotional way and become loyal consumers. I guess because of that I like to support small Latino business because they transmit inspiration and empower us to work for our dreams and we look up to them.
4. We love Videos
I feel guilty admitting that I spend quite a bit of time watching videos on youtube and Facebook I even admit that if they are informational or inspirational or find them entertaining there is no doubt that I will pass it to my family and friends to watch. For example, The video below has 179K likes and 4,167,790 views with 2.6 subscribers. Not to mention that beauty is among one of the favorite topics for Latinas to watch, that is why there a tons of videos on youtube about makeup, but the reason why I choose the video below to talk about is because I started watching that video and without realizing I spend an hour watching similar videos of her because I like how authentic and realistic her personality is.
Did I mention that Latinos spend 68% watching video on their mobile device?
To conclude, my last thought is to focus on creating content that is shareable across multi-platforms, why? because Latinos are among the higher percentage of consumers that share content through social media, the truth is that we like to share content with our families and friends, yeah I’m one of those people who like to share videos, or even download them just to share it with my family hehehe!
Free tools to help artistically-challenged data gurus create attractive and helpful images.
“65 percent of the population consists of visual learners”- Pearson Prentice Hall
If you have great ideas and interesting facts, the next thing you need is to transform those ideas and facts into visual imagery or infographics. Why Visual? Because people tend to remember visual imagery or a great infographic much more than words or listening alone. The percentage of information recalled by a person when showing an infographic is higher than words alone. I know that as a marketer student you main focus should be in figuring out what makes a content go viral or how to create great story or come up with a great content strategy but in this age, we have to play many roles, and with that said that we have to learn many skills in order to deliver great content. One of the skills that I believe that all marketers should learn is to create great visual or understand the basics of design, and vice-versa for any designers out there, they have to understand the basics of content marketing. So for my fellow marketers out there, I will be sharing some tools to help you push your ideas, data, and facts to the next level, so you’ll be able to deliver a stronger content marketing.
“our brains are better at storing and recalling images than words or numbers alone.”- Bernard Marr, Content Contributor HuffingtonPost
So don’t worry if you are not creative everyone has their own forté. The important thing is there are a good number of affordable or even free tools to help even the most artistically-challenged data gurus create attractive imagery.
1. Canva: https://about.canva.com/
Canva is a tool created to help the non-designers create material that they need in their everyday work such as Design presentations, social media graphics, they have thousands of beautiful layouts for any kind of project. Below, in the screenshot, you can see all the services that canva provides they range from logo design to photo editing. I found Canva pretty interesting even just to get ideas or inspirations. So, if you have not checked them out, go ahead and check them out.
2. Venngage: https://venngage.com/
This second tool, venngage, its main focus is on infographics because their main focus in creating infographics it seems that they put a lot of commitment into delivering a great result, so If you want a professional to the point infographics now you have a point of reference.
Venngage’s easy three steps make you become the creator, they also offer 100+ infographic templates to choose from.
3. ceros: https://www.ceros.com/
Everybody’s making infographics these days—but most of them are pretty uninspiring. Ceros lets you turn data into engaging, interactive experiences.
ceros are geared towards making interactive infographics, wow this is something new for me and I find this much more interesting to watch than traditional infographics, because I believe that nowadays our attention span is much shorter but when something moves or suddenly takes a new shape I tend to keep on watching it or in other words my interaction rate is higher. it seems like interactive infographics are the future of traditional infographics because If a still image won’t quite make the impression a given company wants, then interactive infographics will, So I believe this tool is something you might want to explore as a marketer.
So, We went from creating a flat design by using canvas then we move into a niche tool that focuses only on creating infographics, venngage, then, I share with you a tool that I find very interesting and surprisingly new, ceros, that will put your content in an advantage edge.
Hopefully, these tools will make your life easier and if you want to read more or learn more about other tools out there you can check the original article posted by Bernard Marr, who is a Contributor at HuntingtonPost, in his article titled, 1 Data Visualization: The Best Infographic Tools For 2017. In his article, he shares 10 tools. Well now that you have some tools, let's keep on creating great content and keep on exploring tools that make your life easier.
Rise your content above all that noise
I believe that everyone is their own brand, we might not own a business yet but as marketers, we have to think that every person is representing their own brand, every day we are trying to sell ourselves to other people, we might be successful at doing so or might fail in the process. Is not easy to stand out from the crowd, especially in this digital age, in where one day you can be on the top, and your content might go viral for a week, but then it dies out. Today, I will be sharing some suggestions to help your brand stand out. It does not matter if you are a small start-up or an established brand company these suggestions can help your brand shine even more.
First of All, You’ve to be CONSISTENCE
Consistency is one of the most important aspects of building a strong brand and consistency helps your brand to cut through all the noise. You have to be posting epic content regularly because if you only post once a week, you are leaving a chance for other companies to attract your niche, or your consumers might not be that interested in what you’ve to offer anymore. Not sure about you but I like consistency I like to eat at a certain time and even like to watch episode at a certain time, if those episodes would not be consistent, there is a high chance that I might not watch them anymore and switch to other episodes or do something else, but because most of them have consistency I tend to go back and watch them.
Consistency is important because if you are consistency your audience can rely on and trust you as a source of insight and information or in some cases to be entertained by your content. Consistency is important because once you’ve your audience set up, they will connect with you across all platforms, having a content calendar set up for your different platforms is the way to go if you want to be consistent and more productive, because posting content on a regular basis in most cases daily requires lots of time and energy. The phrase in the image below summarizes my consistency paragraph it says, “Creating content is hard. Creating content every single day is harder. IF you’re willing to do something difficult, there’s a good chance it gains you an edge on your competitors.”
I will share some of my favorite brand/company that is using consistency the right way:
The FUTUR, they are an online education platform, they are passionate about design and business. They have a total of 181,575 subscribers on youtube. For me, they are one of the best examples of consistency because they are always creating content for their subscribers and every week they have something new on their blog, they are not only being consistent on delivering content but they are also being consistent in delivering content to all their platforms, and this is really impressive because they are a small design studio, but because of their consistency they are gaining new subscribers almost every day, not just that but because of this consistency their revenue is also growing with them. I’m totally a fan of them because besides studying marketing my passion is design, and they are my go-to when I want to learn something that I’m not learning in my art classes.
Some suggestions for your content to cut through the clutter.
Remember your consumers are always paying attention to every move you make, so make sure to pay attention to every single detail on your content, because the same way a good video/content can make your brand look good a bad content can hurt your brand image, such as the recent controversy that Dove that with their recent ad in where they show a color woman switching to a lighter color woman, this caused controversy between people claiming that the ad was racist. Dove tweet saying that they “missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully. We deeply regret the offense it caused” not only did they make people feel uncomfortable but this cost them money and time, SO PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY DETAIL when creating your content, so it will not miss the mark but Stan Out from the Crowd.
How to Build a Well-Run Content Team? Here are 6 Expert Tips to Help us out.
Working in groups or teams might be hard for some people, in some cases it might be uncomfortable because at an early age we learned to compete with everybody rather than helping each other succeed, we learned about individualism and get things done by ourselves, but once we reach college we start to realize that teamwork becomes an important aspect of our lives, in college we practice real-life experience on dealing with deadlines and working with people. Well, It is important to understand that collaboration and teamwork is an important aspect of content marketing, because without the collaboration of one another the show wouldn't be possible or wouldn’t have the same impact as a teamwork, So I will be discussing 6 Expert Tips on How to Build a Well-Run Content Team, which was originated written by Aaron Agius in his article called “13 Experts Share Their Best Tips on How to Build a Well-Run Content Team” from the Content Marketing Institute.
1. Create a Content Marketing Strategy
“Your strategy is the DNA for how your brand communicates with the outside world. It’s also the genetic code necessary to build the best team to execute the strategy.” - Aaron Agius
Having a set goal and a focus of direction not only is the way to go but if you are trying to become a more productive and a more efficient marketer, the first and most important thing you need to come up with is a great content marketing strategy, because you might create great content but without a sense of direction that content is not going anywhere, because good content is there at the right time and for the right people. Having a Content Strategy before coming up with the team is the way to go because the content strategy will stir you into the direction of who you will need or who should you bring in.
2. Structure your Team Effectively
“to function efficiently, it’s important to have clearly defined job roles and a formal structure for your team.” Aaron A.
Organization and having a clear vision of how or what the content will be and have each person be responsible for their assigned task, define the goal to your team otherwise teams cannot perform effectively if the goal is not clear. Let the designer do its job and let the video director do his/her job do not be mixing up roles.
3. Choose Your Managing Editor Wisely
A managing editor administers the day-to-day operations of content creation, in other words, a managing editor is a storyteller and is in charge of making the content compelling. The managing editor is in charge of generating story ideas as well as responsible for improving upon the work of other writers within the company, so make sure to find a managing editor that pays careful attention to details, and is on top of things.
4. Hire a Content Marketing Strategist
The most important thing in a content marketing strategist is to be able to find someone that has experience and skilled in any type of content. Hunt for big thinkers, a content marketing strategists that understand all forms of content from productions and distribution to connection and most important look for someone that is always willing to learn because a good content marketing strategist never stops learning.
5. Hire a Skilled Designer
“Strong visual communicators are invaluable for content marketing.” Kristi Hines
You might have a good content, but if you don't have skilled designers in your team that content will not get far away as important as creating a story or content it is important to have a skilled designer in your team, because 65% of people are visual learners, people tend to perceived graphics or images as pleasing to see rather than long and boring written materials. People tend to remember visual imagery, so make sure to create great graphics and visuals that resonate with your audience.
6. Leverage the Power of Video
According to Cisco by 2019, 80% of all internet traffic will be from videos, from that fact we already see where short video content is heading more and more people are spending time on their mobile watching videos, so don’t be scared of jumping into the boat and follow the shark because you’ll benefit in the future. Like a said before most people are visual learners and like to be entertained with imagery, so if your company isn’t producing any kind of video is not too late to start with something small today, little by little you’ll be getting experience.
“One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team.” ―Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Brands Today need to become their own publisher
We live in a generation where everybody seems to be part of another planet, it seems that we have friends and families in faraway places, it sounds funny, but that is the reality of our time. Everywhere you look, you’ll see someone using any kind of electronic devices, but the majority are using their cell-phones. This generation is consuming tons of media and content, we are so polluted with content on the internet that sometimes even if it is a good blog or content we tend to skip it because we are learning to tune out things that are not causing us to click or stay more than 5 sec on a video. So, how brands can get the attention of consumers? Yes, You Guessed it.! It is by creating Compelling and Valuable Content that consumers want to see.
Understanding the Benefit of Content Marketing
It is important and critical for marketers to understand the reason of why content marketing is important and the benefits that it brings to a brand/business. I will be discussing two benefits that in my opinion are the most important, these two benefits are few of many benefits that content marketing has on any small or large business.
1. Improves brand awareness and recognition
It is important for a brand that consumers are aware that they exist. There are only a few brands that we can recall because of their iconic looks, that awareness has helped brands stay in the marketplace because consumers identify themselves with them and consumers give power to those brands by purchasing/consuming their products, which leads to loyalty consumers once the brand becomes part of a person’s lifestyle. So, Content Marketing improves brand awareness and recognition, by creating your own content there is a higher chance that consumers are going to love and identified with because if they already love your brand they’ll love you even more because you will provide them with content that will add value to their lives and by providing them with original and authentic content they’ll stick to your brand. In most cases, consumers already know the kind of content that each memorable brand produces such as Nike with is “Just Do IT” campaign it brought many the empowerment feeling of overcoming any challenge, this is an emotional message that connects people, this is mostly because Nike creates its own content. I find the video below really inspiring and daring, it gives me the message to dare and to just do whatever I have to get done, in the video we do not see any selling speech but rather it is content that is valuable and carrying a great message. That is Great Content Marketing Right There because it entertains me and keeps me watching until the end of the video and even makes me want to see more of those videos, even with just the phrase of “ Just Do It” remind us of NIKE.
2. Position your business as an expert in your industry
Not sure about yourself, but I usually buy from companies that are always providing me with the best quality of product/service or are creating great content such as the video above. I tend to tune out content that doesn’t enrich my life or doesn’t help me in any way, I found a video on Facebook from the mitú page, it is interesting to see how this media company is growing, they position themselves at a Latinx Content Creator, due to their increasing number of followers/likes, which at this moment is 3,694,939 by creating only Latinx content this position mitú as an expert in their industry, due to this other company such as MetroPCS are renting or paying to mitú to create content for them at the same time using mitú audience, For example in the image below you’ll see the screenshot of the video I was talking about, it was content created for MetroPCS from mitú, well the video shows a Young Latina Entrepreneur telling her story of success and struggle, as you can see in the screenshot this video reached 382K Views and almost 10K of likes Well this might be great for mitú, but in contrast is not too good for metro because they are not owning the content neither creating connection with their consumers, they do not own the statistics or monitoring how the content does, I was checking on MetroPCS Facebook page I a realized that they only have 652,000 follow and 660,928 likes, and their consumer interactions is less, because they mostly have selling speeches or content, where they promote their new products. I also checked their youtube page and metro pcs only have 25,448 subscribers compared to the 199,465 of mitú. Below you are going to see a video from metro pcs, it is about 4 minutes long, this is so bad that I didn’t watch until the end, this is to promote their products, in contrast to the 2.41 minutes video that mitú produced for them, which I totally loved it because the story was so inspiring and touching, in the other hand MetroPCS videos which I totally didn’t care, this means MetroPCS are not creating content that comes to enrich my life, I guess because of this they recur for the help of mitú in creating their content.
Cola Cola’s Liquid & Linked Content Marketing
Coke is one of the things that brings me good memories of my childhood, most of which are the good times I spent with my family. My family, we have a Central America background, we do not consume a lot of soft drinks, I remember growing up our family gatherings or birthdays coke was always present in our tables, we buy coke to share it with the whole family, it was only for the good moments, because my dad was health conscious, but despite that my mom always used to say, "who cannot resist a coke" to me because of the memories that coke brings me I feel attached to the brand even though I do not consume their products I do feel like it brings me joy and a smile when I looked back at my childhood years.
Coca-Cola Content 20/20
Coke has been around for more than 120 years in the market, establishing emotional connections with their consumers throughout the years, Coke position themselves as the leader in creating great content for their consumers, creating content that is valuable and meaningful for the consumers. In their video, coca-cola content 2020 they break down their main ideas into ten different short chapters. Content that provokes conversation, such as the video where they describe their vision of transition from creative excellence to content excellence, this is a smart way for them to drive free media coverage, and position themselves as the leading corporation that shares insight content to other business, so they can learn from coke, as the content they produce will be as well shared and talked about, as well as content that will transcend barriers
What does coke do regarding content Creation?
1. Content: Coca-cola creates content with social at the heart of their marketing content strategy, content that is valuable and representing of their target market, embracing diversity, and making the world a better place, as they are one of the big brands out there, it is important for them to let consumers know that they care about the future.
2. Experience: Coca-cola uses real-life experience to make their content meaningful and relatable to consumers, in the video, they say that there is more content out there that is more powerful because cultures are big on story-telling
3. Conversation: When they create great content, other businesses start to pay attention what coke is doing, coke creates partnership with technologies companies to be relatable to their target market, Coke has partnered with Google and Spotify because they know that their target market are technology/innovation-driven, so coke creates content that will start a conversation.
4. Share: Coke reaches more audience/consumer when someone is sharing a video of one of Coke’s videos, for example in the video below, they came up with this great piece of content. In the video, we see that there is a guy laughing on the tren, and the public is like, “ are you ok?” and we see some people recording with their videos, almost at the end when the guys revealed that they are from Cola-Cola there is a lady that grabs her phone and tries to capture the moment, but if we think about it, in real life everyone would be with their cell-phones out, and probably live-streaming it or coming up with a funny meme that could go viral, so there is the key for Coca-Cola they gain more when the public shares their content with their families and friends in social media because in way they would get more sees, I think that is brilliant, is a smart way to spread more content to reach more people in a faster and effective was as it is through social media.
Who better to create/ or publish their own content that the company itself, they have a better understanding of who they want to reach, and have a market profile on their loyal consumers, like Coke more companies should start to create and write their own content because the content should reflect how the company will bring value to a consumer’s life. Coke uses real stories because it reflects authenticity to their consumers also by creating their own company they are collecting data and bringing up the conversation or interacting with their consumers, which is important because they gained insight on what the consumer wants or their interest.
Content Marketing vs Traditional Marketing
Consumers are self-centered, they do not care about your brand, your product or service or any of the content that you produce, most of the consumers only care about their wants and their need, what do you think selfies are really trendy and even becoming part of the consumer’s everyday life, it is because selfies are a unique way of self-expression.
What is CONTENT MARKETING?
Content Marketing is telling a story before the sales pitch meaning that it is creating and building a story through social media platforms, but for content marketing to be successful it needs to create and distribute valuable and compelling content, meaning that the content that you are going to create needs to bring consumers value or make them feel that your content is relating to their life, by creating valuable and compelling content you will be able to attract new consumers, acquire more followers and engage with current consumers.
How Content Marketing differs from Traditional Marketing?
In Traditional marketing companies go for the widest cast and they try to get the biggest audience using mediums such as Print, Broadcast, Direct mail and Telemarketing they just put the selling message there and the message is not diverse rather they are trying to reach as many people as possible, the best example of traditional marketing is a tv ad.
Content Marketing differs from traditional marketing in the way that content marketing is telling a story to the consumer, it is engaging the consumer by entertain, inform, and educate the consumer rather than selling a product or a service by creating a narrative the consumer finds an emotional connections with the brand, because you are not selling him/her your product rather you are connecting with your audience in a different way. Content market is way cheaper than traditional market because content market uses social media platforms to reach the consumer, while traditional media uses paid advertising, traditional direct mail, and ads on tv.
Some examples of companies incorporating great content marketing into their strategy are the following: Wendy’s, mitú and
Wendy’s
Wendy’s is creating compelling and valuable content for each social media platforms and they are also engaging with their fans/followers probably consumers, which is important because they are building a human connections, they are also creating humor meaning that they are making people laugh, which is also making people talk about them, which it brings brand awareness. because of their sense of humor that they have when they post their comments, it seems like they understand their target market or their followers by speaking/abbreviating words like people my age do, they also keep the conversation, meaning that they reply back to comments and also they do a call to action to engage with the consumer.
In the image, we see that someone tweet @wendys your burgers are (emoji), and surprisingly wendy’s official tweeted back with a humoristic response, which makes Wendy’s likable and clever by keeping their response short and following the format of what the previous person did, it makes the conversation dynamic. I will be surprised if X or Y brand will reply to something I will post, and if they do I will possible like them for that. Way to Go Wendy’s.
mitú
mitú is a digital content marketing creator, targeting Latino Youth. mitú is a great content marketing creator because they have a niche market, and they understand their target market. They created content that entertains, informs, educates, and inspires their audience to want to consume their content. I personally like their brand and what they stand for their motto is representing the 200% , which is 100% American and 100% Latino, meaning that their target market navigate between the two cultures but they feel that they are not being represented and that the content that they consume is no there yet, so mitú is letting know their target market that they are there for them, mitú creates a lot of digital videos ranging from humor to inspirational videos, they are engaging with their audience and their followers is increasing, they put themselves as the leader in connecting brands with the Latino community. They created digital content for metro pcs and some other latino leading service providers. Recently they added an online store, where they sell branded t-shirt and cute pillows due to the high demand they had from their audience and it seems that they are carrying more than t-shirts but increasing to other products such as phone cases and hats, their audience is willing to pay for mitú branded products because of the emotional connection mitú has created with their audience.
Whole Foods Market
Another great content creator is Whole Foods. In the image below we can see the main page of their website, it does not look like a shopping website but rather a more welcoming a nurturing website, where one can go and learn from their recipes. It is pretty interesting how they are not creating an environment where they try to sell their products but instead they are creating valuable content that consumers can use and learn from it.
