What is the difference between a swamp and a bog?
So they’re both wetlands, and the gist of it is, without getting super technical, that we basically define a wetland based on the animal and plant life it supports.
Swamps are identified by their trees and other woody vegetation, which the nutrients in their soils can support.
Bogs have poor soil nutrition and can’t really support that type of plant life. Instead, they’re full of decomposing stuff, and often things like peat!
Both wetland types are super cool and important, though! If you look up different wetland types, you can read about what they do for us and the world! See also: fens, wet meadows, marshes, estuaries, and flooded forests. All really cool ecosystems!!!
A thing I really like about the cottagecore/farmcore/grandmacore community, is the way simple things are romanticized. It’s a break from a culture centered around consuming, and inspires slow living and appreciation for your natural surroundings and simple joys.
To find meaning and happines in tending to your tomatoes, making jam from your grandmother’s recipe, or taking a nap in the sun is such a beautiful thing to me. There is such a feeling of luxury to be able to share a homemade cake with the people you care about, or to be able to give away some of your carrots to your neighbour, it really makes a little feel like a lot!
