This… just wasn’t scary. Not at all. Fin had butterflies that made him feel like he could puke at any moment, and made him feel lightheaded enough to burst into a fit of pointless laughter, but behind it was no fear. Anxiety, but pure joy. Stevie brought him the softest, realest, most enthusiastic joy he’d ever felt in his life. It wasn’t new in the least, really. In the almost year they’d known each other, every teeny, casual touch from Stevie had always felt so much more vivid than it did coming from anyone else. It might have been only recently that he accepted that he liked her and had for a long time now, but it was certainly coming to a head now. Hell, just her pulling out a bottle of wine to surprise him felt like she’d just given him a thousand bucks. A real date was not only overdue, but almost seemed unnecessary by now, and yet now that they were here, Fin was furious they hadn’t gotten around to it way sooner.
Christ, Fin would do just about anything to hear that laugh. Even now, when it was lovingly at his expense, it brought a huge smile to his face. “And he was so loud, too. I hated hearing him talk. Mum said he was funny but nope. Hated the fucker. Still will, I’m sure,” he vowed, shaking his head firmly. He watched as she poured herself a drink - the most simple of actions still so completely captivating - and brought his eyes up to meet hers once more when she spoke again. “I will be a perfect gentleman, Miss Dupree, I swear to you.” He raised his wine glass ever so slightly in solidarity with what he was saying. But a very cartoonish, exaggerated exhale left him, and he brought his hand up to wipe his forehead playfully. “Thank feck. Just those twenty seconds were a struggle, Steve, I’ll be honest. The urge to honk one of your boobs was immeasurable.” He gladly lifted his arm up for her to scoot under and was about to follow up on his joke and honk her boob, but he faltered. At this point, it’s near impossible for you to do anything that would make me not want to be with you.
Fin felt like everything in him just melted entirely in that moment as his gaze lingered on hers, lips tugged up into a very gentle smile. It was beautiful to hear and beautiful to know right then that he felt the same exact way. As cheesy as he always found it, as unappealing as he’d always found it, he was overwhelmed by the knowledge that he… felt like it was all figured out from here on out. It was him and Stevie. She’d come into his life and changed pretty much all of it for the better. He loved her for it. He loved her for everything she did. He just loved her, in every way that he knew how. “That’s comforting,” he finally said, “’cause now I have a greenlight to be a real gobshite.” His hand moved from where it rested on her side to the back of her neck, pulling her forward enough to kiss her. Though he let his arm drop over her shoulder to quickly squeeze one of her boobs, like he’d promised to. “No broken boundaries, you’re right. Though I’m pretty sure more or less bein’ a couple for three months and then going on our first date kind of got rid of any boundaries that normal couples would have.” Neither of them had used the word couple, at least not to each other, but it slipped out thoughtlessly and he didn’t jump to correct it at all.
“i mean...” stevie mumbled, finally taking her eyes off of fin, even if it was to roll them for half a second. “i agree with your mom there — he was kinda funny.” she squinted her eyes and scrunched up her nose as if to apologetically announce that she disagreed. but she quickly shrugged after, a small smile creeping onto her features. “but who knows, you know? maybe you’ll tolerate him this time! maybe. you know what they say: don’t knock it til you try it.” she was completely aware that the situation those words were usually used on had absolutely nothing to do with the princess bride... and that made it just that much funnier to her, to the point where the infamous snort giggle made an appearance. normally, if this were a first date with anyone else, stevie would’ve immediately turned a bright shade of red, and would’ve done anything in her power to hide her face from said anyone else... but with fin she found herself in such comfort that she didn’t even flinch.
she furrowed her eyebrows in playful skepticism, but she raised her bubbly drink to acknowledge him. the formality felt weird, even when she knew it was a joke. another laugh and a roll of her eyes followed as fin acted out his relief. “such a drama queen,” she teased as she attempted to scoot closer to his touch — wholeheartedly wishing that by doing so they would somehow merge into one. the brunette shook her head and shot him a challenging look from her position, although the smile remained on her face. “bring it on, then, casey. i was born ready.” and although she wanted to joke and laugh about anything and everything, the kiss was more than welcome. and to be honest, a surprise to her, in that very moment. his hand off her side and on her neck gave her chills — it was soft and a quick moment, but she felt herself melt into his touch. the moment was interrupted by his hand on her breast, a quick chuckle stayed stuck in her throat and released through her shoulders, a laugh against his lips, as she refused to let go of him in that last second.
the movie had already started, and she hadn’t even noticed until then. stevie still needed a lifetime to tell him how much she loved his accent, and to be so rudely interrupted by the movie she had dragged him to watch was suddenly unacceptable. resigned, she was about to suggest they turned their attention to the film, but she became distracted by fin’s words. distracted, because she had to do a double take — were those words part of the joke? the words came out of her mouth before she could stop them. “is that what we are?” a pause. “wait, no. sorry, that...” she had to straighten up for a moment so she could look at fin’s eyes — they often spoke more of the truth than his words did. she shook her head to reset her own thoughts, more than anything else. “that came out wrong. okay — do you want us to be one? you know, a couple? i’m only asking because you told me... at some point you told me you weren’t a big fan of relationships.” her tone was soft as she kept her gaze fixed on the irishman’s features.
