Type: Hill - a rounded elevation of limited extent rising above the surrounding land with local relief of less than 300m

Tombol Hill is a hill in Batangas and has an elevation of 219 metres and a place to hike. Tombol Hill is situated in Rosario, close to Jesus the Risen Savior. A lot of food stalls were placed so food and drinks is not a problem on the hill. You may also take a rest on the benches near the stalls. There were also cops and military personnels stationed in the area and marshals to escort you as you climb up the hill. The prize of the climb is that you will be able to see up close the Risen Christ statue. Aside from that, Penetensiyahan is a Lenten celebration in Rosario, Batangas in commemoration of the passion of Jesus Christ providing a glimpse of the 14 stations in the Grotto at the foot of Tombol Hill. Christian devotees hold pilgrimages to this place during the Holy Week.

📍Batangas Racing Circuit

Batangas Racing Circuit it is! 

It is located at Barangay Maligaya, Rosario Batangas and has become a haven for Philippine speed junkies, two- wheel and four wheel drivers alike. Drag and circuit racing are two of its most frequent activities. Batangas was the first ground-up purpose-built circuit in the Philippines, building on the early successes of Subic Bay in developing the emerging motorsport industry. With $3 million of sponsorship backing from Shell, Toyota, Philip Morris, Yamaha and Kilton Motor Corporation, as well as the Provincial Government of Batangas, the circuit opened in 1996, quickly establishing itself as the premier circuit in the country. Facilities are good, with permanent pitlane garages and a fully-equipped media centre. Races for superbikes, touring cars, Toyota Corolla Cup and formula cars have been organised and the current calendar extends over 36 weekends.

Batangas Racing Circuit is located in Barrio Maligaya, near to the town of Rosario. The nearest airport is Ninoy Aquino International Airport at Manila, around 90 minutes drive to the south. To reach the circuit from Manila, head south on the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road towards Lipa City and then take the Garcia-San Juan-Candelaria road to the circuit.

It hosts both 2 and 4 wheeled races such as the Philippine GT Championship, Philippine Touring Car Championship, National Drag Racing Championship, Philippine Superbike Championship, and FlatOut Race Series. The Asian Formula 3 Championship, Asian V8 Championship, Philippine Formula Toyota Cup, Toyota Corolla Cup, and Circuit Showdown have also graced the circuit in the past. BRC is also the favorite racetrack of riders to test their skills and limits of their Superbikes. It is also a venue for motorcycle racing here in the Philippines. This makes the Batangas Racing Circuit an ideal place for all motoring related activities. A spot you should not miss if you are in too motorsport or just a racing fan.

THE SINUKMANI FESTIVAL

The town of Rosario is one of the oldest towns established in the Province of Batangas. Established in 1687 with the help of by Augustinian friars, the town is strategically located and has access to and from other vital cities and municipalities – Lipa City on the North, Batangas City on the Southwestern and Quezon Province on the East-Southeast.

Blessed with rich soil and vast plains, it is no wonder that agriculture remains as one of the foremost sources of income among local residents. In fact, Rosario is known as the Rice Granary of Batangas, the major local source of rice in the province. It thus comes as no surprise that Rosario has also come to be known for its rice-based delicacies that have also come to be intertwined with local culture.

One such delicacy is the sinukmani – a concoction made of malagkit rice, coconut milk and sugar, much like the biko in appearance but with a variation. The sinukmani is topped with caramelized latik for added flavor.

The sinukmani is not everyday fare for local residents. It is a special delicacy prepared only when there are a number of men around because cooking it requires a lot of muscle – the more cooked the malagkit gets, the heavier it gets as well. It is best eaten as a meryenda, each slice on a piece of banana leaf, and served with a strong cup of kapeng barako. Or it can also be taken as a desert to top a rich meal during fiestas and other festivities.

It is sweet – for sweetness in a relationship. Cooking it requires muscle – just as a relationship requires much effort in order to make it work. The Sinukmani is also a favorite fare during Undas or All Saints’ Day when families come together to pray for and reminisce on their loved ones who have passed away. As rich and filling as the culture and history of the people of Rosario. As sweet and unique as the smiles that welcome friends and guests to this peaceful town.

Ingredients

1 kilo sticky rice

8 cups thick coconut milk

3/4 kilo brown sugar / panutsa

pandan leaves

banana leaf , whole

How to make it

Cook rice with the pandan leaves.

Combine Coconut milk and sugar in a hot kawa.

Stir continuously until the sugar is melted.

Let it boil for five minutes. Then turn the fire to medium heat.

Add the rice to the mixture then stir until the rice and the coconut milk mixture are evenly mixed together.

Heat the banana leaf over fire to prevent it from breaking.

Spread the Sinukmani in the banana leaf then serve.
