ACTUATE// activate, incite, set off, trigger, initiate, prompt
To cause something to operate or to act in a particular way. To actuate something is to activate or put into motion through direct (push, pull or swing with hands) or indirectly (press a button or initiate one human-to-object action that may then initiate one or a series of object-to-object actions) with the intention of causing it to move, act, behave, etc. in a particular way or produce a particular outcome.
