River rolled her eyes. Always an authoritative figure where she had no right to be. “No, you don’t.” There was a first meeting with every face. “I’m the woman who thinks you might as well have a seat.” She pushed out the chair opposite hers with her left heel. “Go on.” She poured a glass of Pavlovian wine. “Care for some?”
“If you insist.” In the state the Doctor was in, she wasn’t about to oppose some alcohol. For all she knew, it could be poisoned, but that seemed to pale in comparison to everything she had endured. In fact, it would be a welcome relief. She sat down across from the woman, studying her. She had immense hair, and the Doctor, despite herself, found it charming.
“Do you have a name, mystery woman? And do you have a reason for bribing me with wine?” The Doctor didn’t drink any yet, waiting to see the woman have a sip of her own, just in case.
