↳ Honey Bee Inn // @stingslikeabee
If I gotta sin to see her again then I’m gonna lie, lie, lie. She’ll make you cry. I’ll sell my soul to be back in her bosom. Gladly now please suck me dry. And still you’ll cry to be back in her bosom. To do it again.
[This is GORGEOUS. Thank you so much, honey!]
Despite not turning around to glance at Rufus, Melissa could feel his displeasure at the idea of eating there. She was used to it – the inn wasn’t famous for the food, after all, and older clients were often surprised when they realized they had a decent menu and kitchen now. But if there was someone that the mistress expected to not have a clue about the current state of her business, this person was the president.
“All sorts of food, actually. I hired a Gongagan chef a while ago and more skilled kitchen aid. A good change of suppliers too, and now we have a sizeable menu and a decent drink selection,” she then started to go down the stairs and led the way into the kitchen, wordlessly commanding a few stray bee-girls out of her way. She didn’t want to be disturbed with nonsense now and anything else pertaining to the inn daily routine could wait.
The kitchen was remodeled into something one would expect to find at a restaurant; it was empty now, but there was a lot of food in the freeze for the employees – usually, their food was cooked separately from the one served to clients, but leftovers were never discarded – Melissa donated to the poor kids and their families near the inn. She gestured towards a table with a set of chairs to the side, near one of the service entrances, and went to the fridge herself to pick something to eat.
Despite being hungry, she knew she wouldn’t be able to take anything strong – so she settled for a bowl of fruit and yogurt, taking both back to the table and setting the silverware for two, even if she doubted that Rufus would accompany her out of politeness. “I can get someone in here to cook for you, Mr. President. Name it and we can whip it,” she said when she sat down herself, picking an apple from the small bowl and biting into it – it was shiny and red, the kind of food one didn’t regularly see in the slums.
“Or we can skip the pleasantries, if you wish.”

Birthday Surprise
@stingslikeabee
“Excuse me.” Harmony enters the room and makes her way closer to Melissa with a plate of cupcakes. She already offered everyone downstairs some cupcakes. The reason to the surprise? It’s something Harmony wants to do for today. She never told anyone that today is her birthday, part of reason is not for anyone to worry about it.
“I would like for you to have a few of these.”
The mistress raised her head upon the soft knock and Harmony’s entrance, but the puzzlement on her features quickly dissolved into a huge smile and a stifled giggle when she saw what the girl brought with her. “Harmony, these are lovely!” Melissa exclaimed, getting up from her seat behind the desk where she was working on papers and putting her glasses aside, approaching the small tray.
She gingerly picked up one of them, admiring the work - it was too delicate and cute to be eaten, but Melissa had no qualms about destroying nice food if it was meant to be eaten, after all. “You spoil me, my dear. Thank you much.” She then took a bite of the cupcake, winking at the other woman in clear high spirits.
This was the break she needed from her accounting issues.
In group settings, men are 75% more likely to speak up than women, and when a woman does speak up, it’s statistically probable her male counterparts will either interrupt her, or speak over her. It’s not because they’re rude, it’s science, the female voice is scientifically proven to be more difficult for a male brain to register. What does this mean? It means, in this world, where men are bigger, stronger, faster, if you’re not ready to fight, the silence will kill you.

The mistress was in her pajamas only, having wrapped the girl in her robe. But Melissa was working, aiding another soul, something that inexplicably made her ignore any potential cold while she started a bath on the adjoining bathroom and tested the water temperature to make sure it was just right for the girl; she didn’t need to be burned, but constant warmth would be good until she was stronger.
Leaving the bathroom, she saw one of the bee-girls out of costume with a food tray and a drink. “Oh thank you, my dear. Leave this with me and you can return downstairs. Kitchen rush won’t be long now,” she said and the obedient, younger girl left without a fuss. Melissa then placed the tray on the bed as she returned to it, glad to see the stranger girl was still conscious.
Well, despite Becca’s foolish stories about a ghost, she approved of whoever sent some porridge, sliced fruit and tea, as well as the water. She needed light but nutritious food and it would help to start slowly. “Honey, there’s a bath almost ready next door, but we got you some food here. Want to start with water?” she offered, trying to adjust her body to offer the petite lady some sort of support so she could eat and drink without collapsing.

The mention of an upcoming visit made she smile. “That would be very kind of you, Tristan. I look forward to receiving you then, I’ll make sure to have something special on the menu… The inn is always open, so come when you’re free. Just ask for me if I’m not downstairs when you get there.”
Melissa then finally picked the half-eaten muffin and took another bite, winking at the man as she raised it a bit with her hands. “Food for the trip back,” she joked, knowing it wasn’t a long way back to her home but still, she couldn’t bear the idea of leaving food behind with so many starving in the slums…
“Take care, my dear. Have a nice day,” she said by means of a goodbye, offering the young man one last smile before heading out herself. She felt… Oddly relieved, as she stepped outside and chewed on the sweet. It was nice to know she was doing the last thing in her power to close this family business forever, for better or worse.
Now she only had to wait to see what news (if any) Tristan would bring.
@stingslikeabee
“Let me help you up the stairs... Lean on me, darling,” the older woman asked in a soft voice, not daring to touch the newcomer without her permission. She had witnessed her fair share of abuse survivors, when even the slightest brush of hand could trigger painful and desperate memories. She didn’t know the story of this girl already – and dared not presume it was safe to be closer until she either passed out and needed help or was invited to.
The climb back to the kitchen was easy enough for someone healthy – but for her visitor, the stairs and the additional noise and light seemed to confuse and throw her off-track; had she been dwelling in the dark parts of the slum for that long to be that sensitive to some light? Melissa had no idea and now it wasn’t the time to ask, but it did make her wonder just what had happened…
With a stern hand, she wordlessly directed the attention of the kitchen staff elsewhere as soon as the duo emerged from the stairs. She could feel Becca opening her mouth to say something, but she pinned the blonde with a dirty glare that immediately shut her up about any ghost stories she might still have. “I’m going upstairs. Bring food and water as soon as you can, I’m taking the first available room we have on the left.”
And without any further explanations, Melissa carried on, wrapping her robe around her figure when a colder draft hit them (maybe a door left opened) and gently steering the girl towards the second set of stairs to the first floor, where the rooms would be available for them. It was also a slow, painful climb but when they made it to the room, she allowed the mysterious visitor to drop anywhere in the suite. “You’re welcome to rest here while I get the water running, my dear. Someone will be here with water and food too, is that okay?”
headcanon: Melissa and Don Corneo
When Melissa offered to buy the inn, Don Corneo at first thought she was joking – how could a whore of his own just have an idea like that? When she actually started to haggle the price and slammed the gil in front of his face, the man realized he had an actual opportunity of getting rid of a business which caused him more trouble than anything else. There was sex to be had anywhere, after all, and usually for free.
He didn’t need the inn.
But Melissa didn’t just want to acquire the place – she wanted to use the inn as a tool for transformation, both of herself and her colleagues. So when she started slowly, banishing anyone with ties to their former boss and barring clients with any history of abuse, the Don and his lackeys were willing to turn a blind eye to her antics, even if they no longer got to party at the inn.
But when she branched out to actually help the Sector 6 people, offering free food, sheltering lost women and donating blankets when winter came, she started to be regarded a bit differently. There was a delicate shift in the power balance in the Wall Market – it wasn’t just oppression and fear; there was an alternative based on kindness and no empty stomachs. This was Melissa’s master move.
Ensuring people’s loyalty through adoration rather than fear – this was her bet, her insurance. The more benign and good-natured she appeared to everyone in the slums, the stronger her support grew, especially when compared to the Don. The alliance with the Turks, the way she strived to make her daughters happy (and her clients too, as a consequence), the side business with information and all the leverage it provided to Melissa: these were the fundamental stones to build her castle.
This is partially why she’s not overly fond of leaving the inn – she knows she’s got enemies and she’s vulnerable outside of her small kingdom. But it was the best the could do, given the circumstances, and she’ll fight viciously to protect herself and those she holds dear.
