IndiaVsCovid-19 Part II
200k is where India stands with the number of Covid-19 cases at the time I'm writing this blog. Although I'm neither capable nor qualified enough to comment on whether our country and our government dealt with the pandemic wisely or not, but I can definitely point out a few things that don't really sound very logical or scientific. Also, I'll not go into the Tableekhi Jamaat & stone pelting stuff because its already been so loud and clear for the common people to witness.
To begin with, the whole purpose of lockdown in various countries was to get a buffer time to minimize the spread of virus in that duration and plan for the containment of the virus after the unlock. But in India, if the lockdown had to be lifted the way it did, totally unplanned, then staying locked for 65 days and compromising the livelihood was a sacrifice the common man made for nothing. I hope at-least they'd made some plans for the second wave to hit in the winters.
Another big issue is the migrant issue. When it was the immigrant states which were taking the services of the migrant workers, wasn't it their responsibility to provide proper food and shelter to the workers. Rather than starving them and forcing them to walk back to their emigrant states 1000s of Kms away. And this is not all, the Delhi Government even made sure they provide food & shelter to the illegal Rohingyas (This is where the votes come from), but starve the UP migrants workers. And finally to force them crowd the bus stand after spreading a fake news a night before, that there are buses arranged for them to go home. Cheap Politics... But what better to expected from that guy.
Now, comes the worst part, which shows the biggest fault lines in India. During the time of strict lockdown, we saw numerous cases and times, the government officials, including the IAS and IPS, requesting the religious clerics to address their people, so as to stay at home and not crowd the places of worship. Followed by the arrogant clerics putting N number of baseless and illogical counter arguments to defy the lockdown. I'm like seriously... is it like the words of a cleric mean more than the words of an elected Prime Minister? Is religion above law and order? And are our executives so incompetent that they need to make an appeal to such clerics to get a government order implemented?
Finally, in the last 65 days, some things did seem crystal clear-
The real poor died. The fake poor looted and took the best advantage of government provided relief schemes. The middle class paid for those schemes. Few rich did appreciable charities & social service, while the others had a real good time in their farmhouses or bungalows putting selfies of acting to wash utensils and become a headline the following day.
