Just listened to #SaturnsPattern by #PaulWeller What an absolutely fantastic album
Stoke City 2-1 Southampton
I was sceptical about our chances of beating a very good Southampton team, especially as the last two times we played them this season, we lost 1-0 and 3-2. I would have quite happily taken a draw before the game (obviously I was delighted with the win though).
The first half was pretty forgettable from a Stoke perspective. We were very lucky when Pellè struck the outside of the net, my heart was in my mouth as I thought that he would have buried the chance. But only 5 minutes later Schneiderlin scored from Fonte’s header from a corner. Stoke’s best chance in the first half fell towards N’Zonzi, who should have equalised, but only managed to shin the ball wide from close range.
The second half started with an equaliser for Stoke, N’Zonzi mis-hit a cross on to the crossbar and the ball fell perfectly for Diouf to strike the ball into the net.
Tadic should have scored but was denied by a goal line clearance from Whelan, when Begovic got caught out of position after Mané beat Begovic to the ball.
Walters had a shot blocked in the 84th minute which fell towards Adam, who bought the ball under control with a beautiful first touch and smashed the ball towards goal to make it 2-1.
Crouch had the opportunity to extend Stoke’s lead to 3-1 at the end of the game, but he hit the ball the wrong of the post.
The day has has finally arrived. Come on England!!!
