Very well then, I’ll use the book facts AND the show to prove Keith is 19. In the book it says that Pidge was 14 years old when her brother went on Kerberos. We all know it took Shiro 1 year to come back to earth. Giving Pidge the age we find in the book, 15. So the ages we see in the Paladin Handbook are the ages at the START of the Season 1, episode 1. So Pidge was 15 when Shiro landed back on earth, Keith was 18, Lance was 17, & Hunk was 17.

Alright, we don’t know the exact passage of time in the show because it’s a trivial mater for production team yada yada, however, in season 1 we see the Paladins going on about 15 separate missions give or take. Missions that weren’t completed in one day, some of them took days even Months to complete. In season 2, they go on a lot more missions. Many months have passed between season 1 to season 2. Then at the start of season 3 Shiro is missing.

Shiro, who returns to voltron with long hair, has been missing for Months, I say about 5-7 months. Why you ask? Because of his long hair. Do you know how long hair takes to grow like that? It’s about half & inch each month. Now I know the show isn’t going to be exact with the hair an all but the long hair makes us assume Shiro has been missing for SEVERAL months before they find them.

It’s safe to assume that from the start of season 1 to the end of season 4, about 1 year has passed. Making Keith 19. If that’s not enough his birthday just passed too so that makes it even more clear.

& about the “space dad” in the Paladin Handbook, notice the words are written by Hunk & not Keith, which is why it’s in yellow. Hunk might think of Shiro as space dad, that’s fine. Keith however, does not see Shiro that way.

This is what Lance calls Shiro. “Senior officer” now depending on the area a senior officer can be different things (there’s different types of senior officers like for prisons, royalty, etc), typically in the army they’re like a lieutenant who serves under a commander. Shiro is called that because he graduated top of his class as a pilot. That’s all that he was for the Kerberos Mission, a pilot & nothing more. Sam Holt was the Commander of the mission, he was the leader, a teacher.

Now in episode 1 This is what Lance calls Iverson their teacher:

He calls him Commander Iverson, a commander holds a position of authority over troops, or cadets. He’s the teacher.

This is what Hunk calls Montgomery, another Commander/Teacher:

“Professor” was used. Indicating some kind of teacher.

Now we know Lance calls Shiro his hero, meaning that Lance knew about Shiro preKerberos. Lance calls Shiro “the pilot of Kerberos mission.”

He doesn’t call him commander or professor, or some formal title like that, he just calls him “the pilot of Kerberos.” You would think that he’d call Shiro commander or professor if he’d been a teach In the past, but Shiro was just a high ranked pilot serving under Commanders.

Okay remember the scenario in episode 1 where Shiro is about to be sedated by Iverson & his staff & lance says “The guys a legend, they’re not even gonna listen to him?”

He doesn’t say “that guys a commander or professor just like them? Why don’t they listen to him?” He just says “that guys a legend”. Meaning there was no authority to his name that Shiro could have used to help him, he was just a really good pilot.

Hunk doesn’t use titles like commander or professor for Shiro, neither does Keith, neither does Pidge. Keith was able to be close to Shiro because they were both students. Pidge, who probably heard and knows a lot about Shiro through Matt doesn’t address him as Commander either, even though she would technically know he was a teacher or something of authority figure.

That being said, I still believe Shiro to be a student, or just a high ranking pilot at the Garrison, not some kind of teacher or professor.

The garrison flashbooks of Pidge’s photo showing that Shiro still in the outfit in the background meaning that, by your logic, he was graduated by the time when Matt was still a student and while Keith was still a student BEFORE Kerberos.

Literally the entire staff wore that uniform. Matt hasn’t. It’s not a uniform for graduates, it’s for staff members.

These books can not compare to large comprehensive books detailing time lines/info/etc present in the series such as those made for Zelda, Transformers, etc.

Kinda off-subject here, but since you pointed out the racism in the way klantis draw Keith and Lance, do you think it's racist when people draw Allura with lips and a bigger nose, or no? I personally don't know, so I thought I'd ask for your opinion and also the opinions of others who see this.

if you want my honest opinion, it comes off as strange to me, because a lot of art and edits with that do tend to make her look,,,,,,,a bit scary? i have seen black folks complain that the edits make her look like a monkey but this experience has shown me that of course everyone won’t have the same opinion, but do i particularly find it racist? yeah, if it’s with the intention of making her look “more poc”
