👋 was wondering to ask, what's the difference between 1818 and 1831 versions of Frankenstein? Is one of them more "canon" than another one?

I'm new in this "fandom", I just started to listen this video one night to fall asleep with the thought of "huh, I never -really- knew what's its about even though I know creature can talk." Aand then I'm crying over it. :'D
I haven’t actually read 1818 yet but I have heard that elizabeth has a bit more of a role in 1818 than in 1831
1818 was the original and then 1831 was a republished edition that mary shelley edited to be kinda watered down (because of the reaction to 1818 i think?)
also I’m pretty sure 1831 is the more commonly read one but my advice would be to read 1818 first
also thanks for the link! looking forward to seeing what she has to say about the creature once I have time to watch it
