YOU SAT on an old tree stump with your guitar. Eyeliner thick in your eyes and a Logan heavy in your chest, your brother brought her—the girl who ran with shadows, to the pack party.
She was awkward in an endearing way. She spoke as if she was Sisyphus, and she was holding the world.
“Hi,” you spoke, grinning like a wolf. “I’m…” you introduce yourself to her, “you know my brother. Jacob.” You point out and she smiles awkwardly. Sitting next to you on a large rock.
“I’m Bella.” She says and you push a hair out of her eyes.
“Do you like music?” You asked her and she seemed to stiffen at the answer. You tried to ignore the look in her eyes, and how the moonlight seemed to hit them just right to make it look like melted honey on a piece of rye.
“Not so much anyone.” She mumbled outside.
“That’s okay.” You tell her, “you don’t mind if I okay though? My brother manages to rope me into playing for everyone.” You roll your eyes, “little brothers.” You grumbled.
“Yeah, I, uh, I don’t mind.” She stumbles with her word and you take in her outfit. A cami, a longsleve holister shirt and low rise jeans.
“Are you finally going to sing?” A boy, shirtless and hot headed shouted as he joked with another boy from the pack. “We don’t even have a stereo.”
“Shut up Paul!” You shouted and he laughed . Slowly, you begin to strum your guitar and the youngest of the bench came to sit down with you and Bella.
“Lover, tell me if you can who’s gonna buy the wedding band? Times being what they are, hard and getting harder all the time.” You sing and your voice is gruff, but smooth somehow.
Seth smiled at the song choice, this one is one of his favorites since he you let him sing the other part, you may or may not have a crush on you.
“Lover, when I sing my song, all the rivers will sing along. And they will break their banks for us and lay the gold at my feet. All the fashion in the pan, all to fashion for your hand. The rivers going to give us the wedding band.” Seth replied with song, secretly fantasizing about giving you a golden wedding band one day. Even if it was a naïve dream.
“Lover, tell me if you’re able, who’s going to okay the wedding table? Times being what they are, dark and getting darker all the time.” You sang and Bella laughed at the second verse of the song, and for the first time in months. She smiled, not that you knew she stopped smiling, but now she’s smiling again.
“Lover, when I sing my song, all the trees gonna sing along. And bend their branches down for me, and their fruit at my feet. The almond and the apple, and the sugar from the maple, the tress gonna the mat the wedding table!” One of the boys, Quill, sand the next part of the song and Seth grumbled before smiling at your enthusiasm to music.
“Lover tell me when we’re wed, who’s gonna make the wedding bed? Times being what they are, hot and getting hotter all the time.” You sang and you nudged Bella’s shoulder. Handing her a price of paper, she looked at it. The lyrics.
“Lover when I sing my song, all the birds gonna sing along, and they’ll come flying around for me. To lay their feathers at my feet, we’ll lay down on idle bound, a pillow beneath our bed. The birds gonna make the wedding bed.” She sings and for the first time all night, she truly makes eye contact with you.
“And the rivers gonna make the wedding table.” You replay.
“And the trees gonna lay the wedding table.” She sings softly.
That was the first time you saw your future with Isabella Swan. The time you imprinted and the time you feel deeply enamored with the girl who ran with shadows.
