When I was in the Construct, I thought myself to be in love with the princess. I wanted nothing more than to be with her, to make her happy with us, and sought to save her from her foul imprisonment.

But soon after we rescued her, Decider chose to remain inside the cabin, which the princess was quite unsatisfied with. Alarmed by her distress, I took…violent action to amend the threats to our perfect romance.

*His arms subconsciously slip around his sides, pressing his hands into the base of his ribcage.*

I ripped open our chest to give her our heart.

And in doing so, I became, as befittingly of the definition of the word, a most unnatural monster.

In this cursed shape, I was immensely powerful, and used my abilities to bring about things that I believed the princess would enjoy. Entertainment, gifts, poetic compliments, I tried it all. But nothing I created could honestly satisfy her, until she made a true decision of her own and destroyed the last remnants of myself, ready to finally accept the only thing she ever wanted: to leave.

I didn’t even so much to stop to think about how much pain I must be putting the princess through. How watching my bold “sacrifice” could have horrified her, or how my imposing presence might have frightened her into place. I never even asked her what she wanted in all of this. I just made foolish assumption after assumption, allowing for anxiety and fear to control my decisions and squeezing the dying flames of my delusions until they led to my death.

*His voice sounds tight with emotion by this point, his gaze distant.*

That is why my so-called “love” of the princess was only a figment of my imagination. If I truly loved the princess, how could I have hurt her so?

She smiles, gentle and sad.

This monster is my greatest fear and vice. It terrifies me to think what would happen if my coworkers, or worse yet, my own daughter, found out about it. I don’t want to become that hideous thing ever again. I can’t let that happen.

But to make things even worse, there are apparently other versions of me out there namely other versions of it, and I feel sick to even think what they might be doing and what they’re capable of.

I know how that feels.

But everyone knows mine. To have a monster inside of you, and carry that weight alone? And knowing there are others like you, who could unleash that and reveal it to everyone you care about?
