Her sudden change in demeanour surprised him, and for a second Fuyuhiko said nothing. The last thing he had expected was for Chihiro to say she was also having a hard time. He thought perhaps it was one of those empty phrases you used to placate someone–’we’re all struggling’–but when she continued, he could see the truth of her words.

He could see why others would look down on her. She was small and timid and had been anxious about even this situation, despite Fuyuhiko’s best efforts to keep his infamous temper at bay. But he had never once considered her that way. After all, the dynamic here was clear; she was a senior in a much more advanced and important branch of the Future Foundation. She might not be in charge of managing this particular division, but as far as Fuyuhiko was concerned she still ranked above him and so he had tried to give her the respect such a position warranted. Hierarchy was something he’d been intimately familiar with his whole life.

And there was more to it than that. He, too, had spent a lot of his life trying to prove that he was strong and capable, and feeling like he was being constantly judged and coming up short in others’ estimation. He hadn’t even been first choice to lead his Clan.

‘I highly doubt most people here are my friend,’ he said, flashing a rueful smile. ‘Given that most of them would have preferred to kill me instead of cure me, and a lot of them still don’t want me here.’ But he believed her when she said that she was his friend. ‘But I guess that’s okay.’ He ran a hand through his hair again, looking away, colour rising in his already rosy cheeks. ‘I, uh… I’m sorry if I scared you. I didn’t mean– I just meant–’ He sighed, annoyed at his own flustered attempts at an apology. ‘I’m just so fuckin’ sick of this. Of all of it. It’s just one damn thing after another and I can’t do anything about it.’

“ I get that... To feel helpless in this situation isn’t very hard, haha. But we have eachother! Even if most of the higher ups don’t trust you, I do. “ Chihiro sighed out what seemed to be a sigh of relief. Knowing that Kuzuryuu and her shared that feeling made her feel more connected to him, less scared of him. She knew he had a short temper, and she couldn’t handle screaming and yelling very well. So this was comforting. Like a reassurance that he’s not here to judge her and use that against her, now that they had this short bonding moment.

“ This might be a bit invasive, but... Is there a particular reason you want to join 5th division? I mean, if it’s just because you feel like you’d fit here better I understand, but I’m still curious if theres any other reason. It’s not that important, I just want to know. “ Chihiro opened her laptop back up, searching for the paperwork needed to switch divisions. She put it somewhere here... Somewhere in the ‘roles’ file, hidden in the future foundation paperwork file. It’s not like she could give it to him before she gets permission, but going over it again before asking was a good idea.

“ It’s a lot of work, and I would love to have help but are you sure you can handle it? I mean, you are still doing a lot of other things, aren’t you? Besides the activities youll stop doing after leaving your division. Theres a lot of work here... “
