SC. * @streetmagic.
the alley materializes around her, brick red and steel blue against a backdrop of greys. but what strikes her isn’t the colour palette — no, that’s typical. what isn’t is the hum of the Other vibrating through the air. the kind of magic that raises the hairs on the back of her neck. that’s how she knows that she’s not alone.
hands slide into satin-lined pockets ; she turns, first with her head and then with her body. he looks … the same. the same coat as the last time they’d met, the same hair, the same shoes. ( she doesn’t think that that was intentional — she just has a very long memory. ) for whatever reason that he had called her to coast city, vera can’t parse it from this, that, or the next.
“ potter, ” she says, tone clipped. he has not earned the privilege of her softer timbre. “ what do you want? ”
“ I’m not even sure if she’s going to show. “
A young man and his feline companion walked with purpose down the crowded boulevard, the cat sprinting every ten feet or so to keep up with the human’s long, determined stride. It was 15 before the hour, which explained why everybody was hauling ass towards South Side --- it was 3 dollar ‘ you call it’s ‘ at the bars on Wednesday nights, but only BEFORE 11.

“ I can’t exactly make her, “ he whispered into the black, not wanting to chance being overheard. This was the location he’d requested they meet, after all. “ She has no reason to listen to me. “
The kitten scoffed, or what he could only assume was a scoff, its long tail swishing from side to side in agitation.
‘ You are Streetlord. She is on street.
Seem simple. Even for human. ‘
There was no time for witty rapport, as the air around them began to shimmer and distort like HEAT WAVES rising from the blacktop. He could feel the incursion, the overlap of this reality and another, as a familiar face came slipping through the gap in time and space.
“ what do you want? ”
“ Oh I am doing well, actually. Thanks for asking. And yourself? “
Straight to business, huh? He respected that about the Outsider, but they were talking about the literal basics of conversation and social etiquette. Was it that damn hard to say HI?
“ Does there HAVE to be a reason? “ he asked with a faint shrug, smile shining through the shadows. “ Can’t a guy just want to see his friend? “
