This seemed like an appropriate moment to write on this blog again. I've been waiting to see Spoon for 13 years. It just never worked out. In college, my friend Mindy went to a show in NY, while I was in Ohio, and faithfully held up her phone so I could listen. The last time they played Chicago, it was my 5 year anniversary with Andrew. And we had hard-fought reservations at Frontera. So I went last Tuesday, by myself, to the famed Chicago Theater and I took one photo. This is it. Britt Daniel is singing my favorite song. A song that this blog is named after. The line goes, "street tar in summer will do a job on your sole," at the time it seemed appropriate to marry my love of Spoon with my love of travel/walking around Chicago.

Lightning struck the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) in downtown Chicago during a thunderstorm last night. I’m a little concerned about how the photographer got this shot flying during an electrical storm. We’ve all seen the end of Almost Famous, right?

80th Anniversary of the Drive-in Movie Theater

On this day in 1933, the very first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey, USA. The phenomenon quickly caught on with drive-ins numbering nearly 5,000 at its peak popularity peak popularity. Now, eighty years later, only a few hundred of these relics currently operate in the United States.

One night President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn’t too luxurious. When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the President’s Secret Service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner. Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle, “Why was he so interested in talking to you?” She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her. President Obama then said, “So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant,” to which Michelle responded, “No. If I had married him, he would now be the President.”
