I never got around to making a post on this piece. I don’t know about other artists, but I when I’m feeling down I find it very hard to create. Over the past couple years I’ve been struggling with a rollercoaster of emotions and I’d go weeks without creating anything. I only created a handful of paintings in 2018 and here is one of a few that I never introduced on insta. This is my first large oil painting I made back in 2016. I was dealing with a lot at the time and my procrastination kicked in and I never found the time to finish it. If you scroll you’ll notice that I only gave the POW section one coat of paint, which was splotchy and inconsistent, so I never made a post about it or named it. Well it’s 2019 and I’m feeling much better about life so I decided to give it at second coat AND brighten up the colors a bit. Back in the day since I was feeling disgusting I specifically made the POW section’s colors dull, dusty and gross, but staring at this piece for years and me personally knowing my purpose for making it always brought up sour memories. It was time. I had to change it. “SMP1” (Square Mirror Palette #1) 2019 12x12in So lately I’ve been using these square mirrors as palettes because they are affordable and durable when it comes to scraping off dried up paint. I always tape the edges so I don’t cut myself, #safteyfirst, and I thought to myself instead of wasting all of this vibrant paint, how about I remove the tape to reveal a clean mirror border, and put the palette in a shadow box? Make the piece that makes pieces into the piece itself. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I thinks it’s pretty cool.
