Fashion History in Less Than 5 Minutes

Mode en France is a 1980s French TV documentary directed by the great Franco-American fashion photographer William Klein with music by the equally great Serge Gainsbourg. This gorgeous and surreal film features a series of vignettes made in collaboration with some of the era's most revolutionary design talent including Gaultier, de Castelbajac, Kenzo, Lacroix, and Alaia. My favorite bit speeds through the evolution of French fashion from Chanel to Courrèges and beyond.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

"The first thing Andy said was: 'Do you want to be in the movies?'" Holzer says. "And my thoughts were, 'Well it beats the s - - - out of shopping at Bloomingdales every day.'"

Quite a few of Warhol's superstars are as well known for their tragic endings as their time in the limelight. Not so for 'Baby Jane' Holzer, the subject of a new exhibit at the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach. Jane was born into the high life, but purposefully flunked out of college to become a model in Paris. Jane was a respectable young society wife when she met Warhol in '64. Designer Spotlight :: SELFI

SELFI

Celeste Lee Arendse is the designer behind South African label SELFI. One of the things we love most is how delicate the pieces in her collection are, and how there is an obvious love for clean lines and structure. Her line is beautifully simple and sophisticated, and a lot of her pieces are perfect for the transition from summer to fall.

Designer Spotlight :: It's Okay My Dear

It's Okay My Dear 

You can tell just from the name that designer Ashley Cheeks creates each piece in her collection with love. The name of her clothing line is the name of a lullaby her mother used to sing to her as a child, and you can see elements of playfulness and youth in her collection. I (Ami, the intern) love Cheeks' use of silk organza, and it really does reflect the "coming of age" influence for the clothing line : it's sheer perfection!

Grace had definite ideas about how she wanted to look. Though she rejected the traditional studio image, she disliked the sloppiness of candid photography, too.
