Your question is met with two distracted grunts, as per usual. Seriously, you swear ever since Tomura and Spinner got closer, they hardly do anything but play those stupid video games together in their free time.
Leaning in the doorway, you watch the backs of their heads as they focus, or chat, or take a sip from their drinks. They’re closer than last night. More…enthusiastic than last night. Tomura’s actually talking and…laughing.
It makes you frown.
Why can’t you be the one who makes him feel like that?

You roll your eyes heavily as Dabi doesn’t even give you a chance to deny it. But still, you try.
“It’s not rejection if I never actually ask him out, genius.”
He snorts, clearly not believing you, but stays lounged on the couch with a cigarette between his lips. Frowning, you sit on the opposite side of the couch, bored of sitting in your room all day and deciding to change scenery before continuing to wallow in your despair.
It’s no secret the way you feel about Shigaraki. The way you talk to him, the way you look at him, the way you hang around him, the way you talk about him— it’s all so obvious…
To everyone except Shigaraki.
It’s insane how someone so capable, so intelligent, so observant, so analytical, can miss someone waving their heart right in front of his face.
And it’s not like you haven’t tried to make it more obvious.
You try and joke around with him a bit, but even if you manage to not get told off, he still doesn’t smile.
Spinner makes him laugh.
You try to relate to his games, asking about them and hanging around while he’s playing, but he doesn’t do much else than ignore your questions.
Spinner can have actual conversations with him.
During missions, you do as he says, speak up when you feel the need, complete your job quickly. And when he’s nearby, you put a bit more flourish in your attacks, just to catch his attention.
Spinner gets praise without even trying.
Even when you two are alone, whether it be in the bar or on a walk or whatever, you try to get just a bit closer…physically or emotionally. He doesn’t let you in very close, though.
Spinner gets him talking deeper…or so you’ve heard.
It’s so…frustrating. It’s not that you hate, or even dislike, Spinner. You just wish you could get to Tomura like he manages to. It’s just…not fair. You actually put in effort, and you don’t get anything for it. Or at least, you don’t get any special treatment- nothing that would suggest he sees you as more than a teammate or regular friend.
It’s even more frustrating that he’s obviously not averse to making connections, like you initially thought. Because Spinner was able to get close. You were there when those two losers started bonding over League of Legends, of all things. You’d never seen Tomura’s face light up like that, never heard him talk with such genuine excitement, but he did…for him.
You’re pulled from your thoughts when two pairs of footsteps walk by. Before you can even look up, you hear Dabi snicker a little, and you already know who it is.
Sure enough, Shigaraki and Spinner walk by, both of them heading to the front door. Cheeks immediately flushing, your eyes dart up and down Tomura’s form before looking away quickly. You sit there uselessly, jealousy boiling low in your gut, but honestly…you’re more defeated than angry.
“Where are you two going?” Dabi asks casually, for the sole purpose of making you hear it.
“Out.” Shigaraki responds flatly, tugging on a jacket to combat the cold outside.
“We’re running short on food.” Spinner responds a bit more descriptively, tugging his shoes on.
‘How cute, you two are going grocery shopping together.’ You think bitterly, deciding not to verbally join the conversation.
Helplessly, you slouch a bit further into the couch, crossing your arms and on the verge of pouting…not that they notice. But Dabi does notice. He rolls his eyes with a little grin, finding his day’s entertainment in your suffering. Once the front door swings open and shut, he opens his stupid mouth.
“Should’ve offered to go with ‘em.” He drawls mockingly, eyeing your frown uncaringly. “Maybe being a third wheel would be better than just sitting on the sidelines.”
Scowling now, you look over sharply and snap at him. “It’s not like they’re dating— How could I ‘third wheel’ people who aren’t dating?”
Dabi chuckles and shrugs, taking a long drag of his cigarette. “…Sure, whatever you say.”
You huff in irritation and stand up, shooting him one last glare before stomping off back to your room, ignoring the way his mocking eyes bore into your back the whole way to the stairs.
