Staggering amount of circumcisions

I am currently back in my hometown visiting my family and today was able to speak to a good friend of my father who happens to be a obstetrician. To get the information I was looking for I told him a friend of mine was expecting a baby boy and they didn’t know if they should have him circumcised. He told me that while he doesn’t tell parents they have to circumcise their boys he does explain that the benefits are so numerous he would circumcise if it was up to him.

I asked him about circumcision rates, he told me he didn’t know exact numbers but he said based off what he has done and seen his educated guess was 70%-75% of boys born are circumcised before they are discharged from the hospital.

I asked him one more question, how many circumcisions have you performed? He said he started in 1993 and estimated between 13,000-14,000 circumcisions.

I wanted to ask more but I didn’t want him to know how much I love circumcision and we moved on to other topics.

I left that conversation amazed how many boys he changed forever!!!!!

People keep saying the circ rate is dropping in the USA. Only if you live on the west coast. I grew up in the Northeast and was born in the 90s. I never saw a single foreskin in my high school locker room. God bless America.

Unfortunately 18 states no longer fund circumcision so children of low income parents almost always leave the hospital uncut and if a boy leaves the hospital with his foreskin the chance he will ever be circumcised is almost zero. RIC is the best.

I was circumcised at birth, I had my son circumcised at birth and he had his son circumcised also. There was some talk by their obstetrician about them not circumcising my grandson and I told my son to put his foot down. all he said was his Dad (me) was a nurse and I insisted on it and then they didn’t give him any trouble. Growing up in junior high school and high school in my error I would say only about 5% of the guys at the most were uncircumcised.
