Corporations Are Not People
Just a few days after I lamented the state of Toronto’s electronic music scene on our blog, my prayers were answered when a friend connected me to a small but growing organization called StudioFeed. StudioFeed is a Toronto music collective made up of artists, producers, DJ’s,...
LAL has been described as a “music making magical mushroom, the visible flowering part of a much larger organism, connected with very fine but infinitely resilient roots.”
They are “obsessed with making music but more obsessed with using the making of music as a way to materialize ways of being together, fostering a sharing of resources, ideas and, at bottom, maintaining a tenacious hope that persists despite the frightening world we live in.”
Well, we couldn't wait to share a few images from our magical weekend - the first Sound in Motion....and with music from Knowing Looks' killer Friday night set as our soundtrack, we had to let it run almost 4 minutes. More to come...
Canadian twin brothers, Mark and Matt Thibideau developed a love for analog synthesizers at a young age. Collecting a staple of them mostly at unbeatable prices, their studio holds a variety of gear, each having it's own story. Both studied music in school but knew they wanted to approach music differently.
Of course these synths play a significant role in their own productions and the more portable ones make it into live performances. Take a look at their passion which just kept growing.

Yours/Ours
This ethos of personal freedom coexists with a digital environment dominated by huge, multinational, oligopolistic corporations: Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, and Facebook. That they use their power to manipulate users for their own gain is unquestioned. What the ideology of the internet allows is for that manipulation to be seen as in our interest. What’s communicated by open standards and cooperative development is that the best thing will win out, and that innovators must be allowed to continue to innovate—which is to say that our objections to the actions of the powerful are simply an expression of an erroneous preference for lesser options. The internet has been so built up rhetorically that it has approached utopian status itself, a commune that never ends. Any problems will be solved, generally by users spontaneously getting together to fix it and then dispersing. We spend a lot of time concentrating on the instances when that did happen. We don’t generally pay attention to all the times when it didn’t.
