Progress and terms from #KatherineMckittrick's Demonic Grounds: Black Women and The Cartographies of Struggle
1. oppositional spatial practices 2. black matters are spatial matters.
Responding to this text I continue to build questions...When thinking about architectural technology: how does spatial manipulation of underutilized public sites make way to analyze processes in which poor people and people of color prepare for environmental uncertainty. It is an exploration of geography, design, architecture, materiality and climate change. How does The Zero Project use the physical landscape and infrastructure of the Coney Island to formulate this question.
Beyond The Zero Project and toward my own research in nomadic zero carbon art practices I ask this question; in what ways can I address black spatial matters (human geography) through a material practice. Lets say I move my body across this country from site to site, and I harvest the sun's energy to supply me with the electricity I need....How will this change my material practice? What will I make? Soon......
Production note: As an artist working with an architect I'm often inspired by the very practical solutions and forms that result from a direct need I have communicated. Eric has listened respectfully to my ideas with The Zero Place Project and it has created the very model that illustrates how the piece will perform.
Eric Worcester
The model is the structure only, no cladding, no panels or equipment. Also not shown is the sliding door and the rotating door. The model is made of wood and chipboard, but the materials and connections of course could be metal. See more of Eric's work: http://ericworcester.com/
