i feel bad for math. its such a calm and friendly discipline full of beautiful and complex patterns and theres absolutely nothing inherently bad or oppressive about it but ppl treat it as though its evil and malicious. a lot of pure math lacks any kind of practical application or end goal, and just exists for the sake of stimulating peoples minds and pushing the limits of the medium as far as is possible. much like almost every kind of art

An 87 Year Old College Student Named Rose The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze. “Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids…” “No seriously,” I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. “I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me. After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, “I’m sorry I’m so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I’ll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.” As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don’t even know it!There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.” She concluded her speech by courageously singing “The Rose.” She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year’s end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it’s never too late to be all you can possibly be .When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they’ll really enjoy it! These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE. REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

Update!

I just wanted to share that I got an A (90.39%) on my first accounting exam! I just took my second one today and I'm so thrilled about the first exam grade and hoping I did just as well on the second! Summer classes are hard but it can be done, don't give up!

hello friends!! so, i’ve been asked many, many times if i have tips for people wanting to start a studyblr or studyblr newbies. i had made a post similar to this one before but in this i aim to add more resources including help so you can add your own contributions to the community 💕

first things first, what is a studyblr?

okay basically a studyblr is a blog on tumblr focused mainly on studying + helping other people study. it is a community aimed at helping each other better ourselves in our academic lives! (this is an article about studyblrs)

types of studyblr

studyblr: quite generic, which encompasses most of the blogs that i’m going to mention all in one, including many tips and study photos and all of that!

langblr: a blog focusing on languages and learning them. it’s really amazing if you want to further your knowledge of a language, as well as talk to native speakers!

appblr: a blog mainly focused on university/college applications which gives a lot of help on the latter

there are also studyblrs focused on certain subjects, for example a medblr which medical students have as well as many others (and if you don’t think there’s a ‘blr’ for your subject, start your own thing!)

what should i post?

anything you want and are good at!!

study music (+ on spotify too if you’d like)

masterposts

personal posts about your life and academia

printables

motivational quotes

+ whatever you like tbh the choice is yours, go crazy

what about bullet journals?

definition: The Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less.

how do i get followers/make friends?

BE YOURSELF, you are going to be liked if you are authentic. trust me on this!

make your own contributions (as mentioned before)

create your own blog games such as blog rates, favourites pages, networks, etc!!!

use tags: many studyblrs have their own tag (for example mine is #areistotle) where people tag them and the mentioned studyblr will check the tag and reblog their post, which helps with spreading the post around, thus helping you gain more recognition!

don’t be afraid to message your favourite studyblrs or surprise them with a post about them (i get so happy when i see stuff like this in my tag, you have no idea how much you can brighten someone’s day up!)

if someone doesn’t respond, don’t hold grudges and let them be. there are so so many great people here!

also don’t get mad or take offense if someone doesn’t reply instantly (remember that many of us have exams and school and just life in general to deal with!)

be nice at all times and spread kindness. everyone deserves happiness and spreading positivity helps make the overall experience a better one!!

It’s 2016. You need motivation? No, what you need is discipline.  IT’S TIME TO FOCUS. Force yourself to do things. Force yourself to get up early, make your bed, go get ready, and go. Force yourself to make plans for the day, and follow through with all those plans. Force yourself to get to class early so you can look over the material. Force yourself to pay attention in class and turn off your phone or at least put it on silent. Stop texting your friends and going on Instagram in class. You are wasting your time, so why even bother going to class if your are going to be distracted? Be selfish. Stop giving your time to people that do not matter. YOUR TIME IS SO SO PRECIOUS. STOP WASTING IT! This is the most important thing that you can do right now, take care of you and your education. Stop being distracted by the world and it’s never ending problems. This is the time that you need to put toward yourself because you are the greatest investment of your life. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. EVERYDAY is a chance to wake up and give your 150%. EXHAUST yourself. That is the only way to give your all. At the end of the day, you should be exhausted from working so much, from reading so much, from exercising so much. Don’t go home because you are tired. Do whatever you need to get done and don’t come home until it’s all done. Stay late at the library. You feel tired? Good. That is how you know you are giving it your best. Go to the gym, and give your work out your all. When you go home, you should feel like you are drained. You should feel like you have nothing left to give because you gave it your all. Because then, you can be proud of yourself and everything you have achieved. Giving it your all is what matters. Give your all every single day. Discipline your mind and your body and you will become successful. You fall back one day? That is O.K., try the next day. You are human, so accept your mistakes. However, love yourself enough to know that you will never giving. THIS IS IT. THIS IS YOUR LIFE. Right now, no matter what circumstances we are all in, is what matters. Take advantage of today. Write down your dreams and force yourself to work toward them, one day at a time.  IT’S TIME TO FOCUS. THIS is your year. This is your life. One day at a time baby. One day at a time. Go ahead and don’t stop.
