Hey guys! I’m back!!! After 9 years!

Technically I’m not back, because this is a new blog. After I’d decided to come back to Tumblr I’ve found my old blog and deleted it. Now I kinda regret it because it would be funny to write a post like „sorry guys I haven’t posted in a while” after nine years. Probably none of my old followers use their blogs anyway. So here I am with a new blog. It’s going to be a studyblr once again. Now - let me introduce myself.

I’m Nika, I’m 26, I'm Polish and I’ve actually finished university in June. „Why are you starting a studyblr then?” you might wonder. Well, it’s because I still haven’t finished my bachelor thesis :((((((

Unfortunately I’ve had serious health problems since December and the last semester was the hardest time of my life. I used to be the best student (I was the only person with a scholarship) and then suddenly I could barely manage writing my assignments on time and had zero time for my thesis. But now I have literally only about a month left to finish it and there’s still plenty of work to do, so I decided to come back to studyblr to help me motivate myself.

What will you probably find on this blog? Kinda like a diary about: how my thesis is going, how I’m trying not to use my phone too much (because when I’ve got urgent stuff to do, my phone suddenly becomes very alluring) and probably some complaining about dealing with insomnia and endometriosis.

Come along if you’d like to see an old a$$ like me finally complete her education :)

You guys, I finally have my Bachelor's degree!!! And a sweet and funny situation happened after it all ended.

Actually I had turned my thesis in almost a month ago and I had an official talk with my reviewer and other members of the examination board about two weeks ago. As you can see on the screenshots the last two weeks before turning my thesis in were intense. I'm so grateful to my thesis supervisor, she was very supportive and the last days were very busy for her as well. The left bouquet from the upper picture was for her and the right one was for my favourite lecturer who was also a member of the examination board. When I bought those flowers I thought to myself that I wished I had bought them for myself. And actually a day or two later I decided that there's no reason for me not to buy them. They don't cost that much and hello, I've just got my degree. But I got ill and couldn't leave the house for a few days. When I got better I finally bought them (the white ones, although I had considered painted ones). My boyfriend came home from work about twenty minutes later and he was holding the painted ones!! He even bought them at the same florist's and most importantly I hadn't told him that I wanted them, he just did it without a reason. He was a little sad that I had bought some myself but I don't see it that way. I think it's a sweet and funny coincidence.

I’ve finished and turned in my BA Thesis!!!

Actually I did it a few days ago but I was too tired to make a post about it until now. God I’ve never been this tired before. But I’m so proud of myself!!!

In Poland turning the thesis in isn’t the end. In three days I’ve got this kind of an oral exam that’s called “obrona”. First they will hand me a review of my thesis and I will have half an hour to read it and prepare arguments to defend my thesis from the reviewers’ remarks. And then I will have a discussion with the reviewer and other members of the board. Results from this discussion will take up 25% of my overall grade. Personally I don’t care about the grade. I only want to pass this thing.

I’m already feeling a little bit nervous but I’m more excited to finally finish my education!!! (Although who knows, I might want to get master’s one day as well).

I forgot to take the picture of my printed out thesis before I left it at my university, haha. And I didn’t feel like spending additional money just to have one copy for myself. So look at this tiny spruce I bought as a Christmas tree for me and my boyfriend! It’s so cute. And I’m thinking about buying a similar bouquet of flowers for my thesis supervisor because she was THE BEST.

[21.11.2024] Six days until I have to print and turn in my BA thesis.

The past three days were hard for me because I slept really badly and was on my period. Today for the first few hours I just alternated between writing, trying to take a nap and crying out of exhaustion and frustration so it wasn’t fun. But around 3 pm I decided to go to a library and there I just tried not to think about how tired I felt and somehow I managed to get a lot done in there. And after I came back home I wrote until 2 am. I don’t know where I take the strength for it all from.

Can you imagine that while I was in that library a few meters from me one guy was doing Spanish Duolingo lessons? How do I know? He did them all out loud! Including those where you have to speak! Like wtf man. In the beginning I thought that he was going to do one lesson but after like 20 minutes i went to him and asked him to stop which thankfully he did.But can you imagine? And on top of that there is a big room on the first floor where you can eat and talk all you want and he decided to do Duolingo out loud right in the middle of a normal library floor where people come to work in silence.

This book has a great cover, doesn’t it?

November 20th, 2024

Today I woke up with a headache and even pain killers don't work. Well, at least yesterday I found out that my PhD now appears on Google Scholar (only if you add enough key words, but still). This was a nice moment.

[18.11.2024] Nine days until I have to print and turn in my BA thesis.

The last couple of days have been good. I start my days kinda slowly but when it gets dark I become really productive. On Friday and Saturday I decided to stay up until 1 am because I was so focused. Last night I was too sleepy so I stopped writing at about 11 pm but today I woke up at 8, went out to buy fresh bread, ate breakfast and started working right away. It’s currently 2 pm, I’ve just eaten dinner while watching an episode of friends with my boyfriend. I’ve done quite a lot today but still I plan to do a lot more. Wish me luck!

Wednesday, the 13th of November 2024

I could not sleep well tonight as I got a perfectly good grade that still could not live up to my expectations of myself. Spent the whole time picking the work apart and dissecting theory and style. I have to move past that but it feels very difficult as I highly respect the professor and even though I was in a very difficult spot when writing it, I feel a little disappointed and ashamed.

EXACTLY TWO WEEKS UNTIL I HAVE TO PRINT AND TURN IN MY THESIS

Last night I slept terribly. I woke up at 3:30 and laid in my bed until my boyfriend started his work at 8. I read a book for my thesis (about custom kolędowanie in Slavic countries and Romania) for an hour and decided to try to fall back asleep which miraculously worked and I slept until 11. Insomnia makes it all twice as hard for me :(

Sadly I didn’t manage to do all the things I planned but hopefully tomorrow I’ll have more time. On the other hand I’m really pleased with what I wrote.

AND IT SNOWED FOR THE FIRST TIME YESTERDAY!! I love snow!! (Probably because I still don’t have a car haha) Sadly it melted right away but still it was nice. Apart from when it snowed my favourite part of the day was when I was writing on our bed and my boyfriend was napping curled around my side <3

The hardest part about my thesis right now is that I have to browse the internet a lot and listen to a lot of music and it’s so hard not to read and listen to ALL the interesting stuff I encounter. But I made quite a good job and read mostly things related to my work. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be more strict with myself though.
