tuesday, july 7th, 2020 | studying dutch, programming, and worrying about what my college is going to do this fall: this is how I’ve been spending my time lately.
Finally got to enroll in my first semester of grad classes!! I'm super excited to take insect biotechnology since that's what I want my career to be in!
My summer goal is to self-study all of my textbooks for grad school!
1.5.20 // how is it may already? it feels like january was only yesterday but still so long ago. anyway, happy beltane and blessed be! today is the sabbath beltane and I am so excited, I plan to cook a lovely meal this evening ♡ the sun is shining and the garden is blooming! I think I might try to move my furniture around a bit because it is so hard to see my laptop against the window... my room is quite small though so that might be a problem! I will post pictures if I manage it!

really like this color for some reason 🧡
26.03.20 // finally managed to start some work today. I have two assignments due in a week and I haven’t started either because the world has felt very overwhelming recently (clearly I’m not the only one feeling that way)
but I don’t really have control over the rest of the world, I have control over myself and my studies and that’s what I’ll be trying to focus on right now. If you need a chat right now come find me. Scary times but we’re not on our own

Do you make a study schedule to keep yourself on track when working from home?
I've never found schedules work for me, I prefer to set myself a bunch of mini deadlines in the lead up to one big deadline and try to meet them as best I can. If I miss one though, I won't beat myself up over it, I tend to manage my time well enough to give myself wiggle room

w1 q1: have you made a study schedule to help you study at home?
yep!! you can see it up above, i’m a pen and paper kind of girl when it comes to schedules. my due dates and schedule for study abroad is also in my uceap (uc education abroad) notebook
w1 q2: how are you being taught your lessons?
my university has chosen to use zoom! as our online classroom. but i know some teachers will opt for top hat out of personal preference (i hate it blease no)

Study time!
I’ve got a week off from school and exams starting in three weeks time. Time to start revising and studying everything.
hey there everyone! I’ve gotten some requests for a post detailing research labs in college. This first post is all about finding one, and getting in. The second part will be all about how to handle the lab once you get there!
To start off, you’re going to need to find out what research is going on at your school, and who is in charge of it. If you’re at a large research university like I am, most departments will have a page detailing all of the professors who run a lab, and what they are working on. Smaller schools may have something similar to this as well, but if not, talk to an advisor or one of your professors and see what they have to say. Some schools actually have an entire advising department specifically for helping students get into labs and get experience with research. Ask around!
Once you’ve found labs that you’re interested in, make a list. Include the name of the lab head, their email, what research they do, and then order that by priority. Congratulations, you’ve made your game plan! Next, you need to contact the lab heads.

I think it's about time I made a part two to this post!! What do yall think?

19 March 2020 | I’ve been rather quiet lately, but here is a little glimpse into what “social distancing” looks like for me. It just so happened that this was the first semester of my program that I was doing almost entirely by distance anyway so remarkably little has changed for me in how I do my coursework. I’m thankful for how little the present pandemic has disrupted my education and know that very few can say the same. My husband, who was until a couple of days ago in the midst of his clinical rotations for medical school in a nearby emergency department, has been much more directly affected and involved in combating the current outbreak. Join me in praying for our entire world—as no one is unaffected by this virus—for when one suffers we all suffer together, recognizing the value and dignity of every human being be they near or far.
O Master and Lord, our Savior, Healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

so this week has been a long year huh…. two weeks no classes over here (with no word yet on whether we’ll get an online component). adapting to working from home is gonna be weird one, but thankfully i have plenty of sunlight and a new found love for tea 🥺 i hope you all are staying safe and doing well!! things will get better. i promise.
