Sorry for being inactive. Little update!
Finished my junior year about two weeks ago. We are now in the final stretch!
Last semester I studied abroad in Australia. Truthfully, my sole reason for this was that it was going to be summer in Australia. It was an awesome time, and I got to intern for a member of Parliament 🇦🇺
In two weeks, I start an internship in D.C.! Won’t go into too much detail, but it’s for a big, important organization and I’m excited and nervous to start. (If you’re in D.C., feel free to DM me and we can meet up!)
I applied for Honors in my major. I’ll probably be notified this week whether I’m accepted or not, but I’m hopeful. If I get in, that means I’ll be writing a senior thesis, which has been a goal of mine! If not, that sucks but that’s okay too.
I’m feeling good. I’m feeling like things are solid. I’m hoping it stays that way.
I’m wishing everyone a wonderful summer, whether it be studying, resting, interning, travelling, working, etc!
7:30 AMÂ Â Brew coffee
Catch up on national news (I prefer NPR’s Up First podcast)
8:00 AMÂ Â Â Work day begins
Read through state news clippings (our organization pays for this service)
If legislature is in session, review committee schedules/agendas.Â
Fill in daily planner with emails to be sent and meetings to attend
8:30 AMÂ Â Begin tackling email inbox! (Obviously a never-ending project).Â
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Staff meeting – each staff member (including all analysts, communications     team and community engagement staff) report out on their work over the       past two weeks and what’s ahead on their schedules. This is a place where   we can collaborate, pitch ideas to one another and share general            announcements. There are usually bagels.
10:30 AM – 11:45 AM
Committee meeting at the state capitol or legislative buildings. This          depends on the day of the week and time. As analysts we sit in on           committee meetings when a bill related to our policy area is being            discussed. We also submit cards in opposition or support on behalf of our     organization and sometimes testify at hearings.Â
11:45 AMÂ Head back to office
12:00 PMÂ Â 30 minute lunch!Â
This is usually when I catch up on national news as it evolves throughout the day. Twitter is my friend.Â
12:30 – 2:00 PM  Write.
At any given moment, I can be working on a policy brief, report, op-ed, blog post or fact sheet. So I’m constantly blocking out time in my schedule to work on these writing projects. I tend to write better outside of the office so sometimes I’ll take a day to work remotely so I can focus. I’ve found the Pomodoro method to be really helpful in keeping me on track. When I write, I’m also simultaneously fact-checking and reading through peer-reviewed articles to support my arguments. Usually, I like to prepare a literature review before I begin the bulk of my writing, but that doesn’t always happen on a short time frame.
2:00 PMÂ Email catch-up (this happens constantly throughout the day)
2:30 – 4:00 PM  Coalition meeting or call
At any given moment I’m working on a policy issue campaign with leaders from other advocacy organizations or community groups, so I’m often on these weekly or biweekly calls or meetings to update campaign partners on my progress with outreach, research, media engagement, etc.Â
4:00 PM  Work day ends! I try to work 7.5 hour days and generally ignore work emails in the evening, unless it’s something urgent, of course.Â
I recently read an article about how women use the word “just” in work life and personal life more than men do because we feel we need to apologize or make whatever we have to say quick. “I’m just writing to say…” “I just want to know…” “Just checking in…”. It seems to trivialize what we have to say.Â
Don’t apologize or feel you need to make little of what you are saying. Say it with intention. “I’m writing to tell you this…” “I want you to know…” “I’m checking in to make sure…"Â
Since reading the article I’ve become aware of how much I was adding “just” so soften what I had to say, whether it needed to be softened or not. Say what you have to say with confidence and intent. without apology. what you have to say, no matter what it is, is important.
I seriously say just WAY too much.
where do you go to school if you don’t mind me asking?
I go to school in Boston! One of the better universities. I try to keep it on the DL in case people I know in real life somehow find this blog but honestly if you look through my posts you can find it. ;)

Three Simple Rules In Life.Â
#TheHomelessPeriod exposes the unique menstruation problem homeless women faceÂ
The new campaign shines a light on homeless women who need assistance caring for their menstrual cycles. According to the Guardian, approximately 26% of people in the U.K. who receive “homelessness services” are female. But in most shelters, “sanitary ware or any kind of period ephemera is scarce,” Vice reported earlier this year. Three women have a plan to fix that.

Ooh it’s been a week or two since I posted! Before Thanksgiving break school was kicking me in the ass. Now I’m back and there’s just a couple of weeks until finals. This semester has gone by faster than I can keep up, and it’s probably because I’ve signed up for more extracurriculars than I can handle so I’m always up and running. Which reminds me to remind you all: nothing is worth losing sleep and eating over, especially not extracurriculars you’re just trying to slap on a resume. Stop. Breathe. Drink water (seriously, drink it). Go to bed at 10pm at least couple nights a week so you can experience a true 8 hours of sleep. It’s cool to do cool things, it’s not cool to stop taking care of yourself. It’s tough as it is out there, your body needs you to take care of it!
That being said, I hope you all are doing well and having a smooth end of the semester. <3
To you :)
November 12: This Week
Here’s a look at this week. I have a midterm on Wednesday and after that I’m mentally checked out. I still have a lot to do but none of it is really academic related so I’m not going to be stressing.
This week I am REALLY looking forward to this Women’s Policy Conference I’ll be attending on Friday! Hoping to learn more about the path for women in government.
Other than that, it’s club meetings, community service, a 5K, and babysitting. Packed week but it’s all good because I’ll be flying back home for Thanksgiving on Tuesday 🤩
Hope everyone had a good start to the week!
November 11: Study notes
Just some Econ notes. I write down every single word our professor utters, because half the time he slips in super important pieces of information for exams that he doesn’t write down on the blackboard.
Enjoy your Sunday, folks!
November 10, 2018
In my usual spot in the library. Studying for this Econ midterm and the amount of tedious algebra that is needed makes me want to puke. I NEED a fantastic grade on this to even out my first midterm grade.
I’ve done practice problems for the last 3 hours so I’m going to work on this online coding class, get dinner, and then go grab dessert downtown with my boyfriend. I don’t know why but I have been wanting to watch Ratatouille for like the last 2 weeks so I might just do that tonight too.
I want to make some different posts, maybe things on advice on internships, handling multiple extracurriculars, how to get close with profs, finding your niche in campus, etc. If anyone has something they’d like to hear about lmk!
Hope everyone is having a swell weekend!!
November 8, 9: Handwriting and To-Do
It’s Friday so I want to do... nothing. But I need to finish updating alumni information on my sorority’s website, I need to start my visa application for next semester, I need to consider whether or not I want to continue writing my research paper for my Gender and Politics class on Latinas in politics or if I want to venture into the policy behind prostitution and sexual violence. I also need to see an old professor after saying I would for two months now, and I need to start working on Week 1 for my online R Programming class on Coursera. OH and I need to start studying for Microanalysis Econ midterm next week, which means attending a lab for it today.
Oh boy.
Day 7: Weather
Beautiful day, even more beautiful view on the steps of my work. Feeling grateful for such a nice day after Beto O’Rourke just barely losing the Senate seat in Texas. However, I’m so proud of him and all that he did for us, and inspired to keep pushing towards a more progressive future.
Weeks almost over. Keep pushing everyone!
Day 5: Study Space, Day 6: Coffee/Tea
The Starbucks on campus is practically my second home. I told myself not to get coffee today because it’s burning a hole in my wallet, but look how well that turned out...
So excited to start this R Programming course on coursera. Hoping this is the start of a lifelong skill!
Omg I’m already behind on this photo challenge. I’m gonna skip day 3 because I’m not really brainstorming anything.
Day 2: This Month, Day 4: Fav Way to Relax
Here’s a glance at this month! It’s gonna be a whirlwind of emotions. Election Day is in TWO days and I want to SCREAM I am so nervous. Midterm next week thag is absolutely going to kill me. I’m just gonna push through until Thanksgiving, and then I’ll fly home and get to be lazy and hang with my boyfriend and family. Total bliss.
My favorite way to relax is make some pasta, throw a pound of Parmesan cheese on it, get in bed, and then binge watch shows like The West Wing. Sadly I’m not able to do that today because I have actual work to do.
