I'm curious what everyone thinks of Epic's punishment on AlexRamiGaming's rule breaking?

Just days after Epic publicly discussed bans for team killing, AlexRamiGaming was banned on his main account and the side account that he team killed with. He was live streaming to over 3000 viewers on his Twitch channel when he blatantly broke the rules of the game. It didn't take Epic long to respond.

Banning his main account was banning an account that Alex had invested some money into. He is upset at this loss of this investment. Alex felt as though he was treated differently because he was a big streamer. His thoughts are that Epic should have simply banned his troll account and been on about their business. In my opinion though I think he is just upset that he got caught and banned, but I don't think he necessarily deserves a perma-ban, What do you think?

I rather think that the banning of the problem player when possible does much more good to rid the community of rule breakers and cheaters. Alex is a big streamer and should know that Epic could easily identify both accounts belonging to him. Why would you only ban the side account as Epic?

TL/DR:

My question is if your looking at video proof, such as a stream, of a player breaking rules that have recently been confirmed to be ban worthy. As Epic would you ban the obvious player who was breaking the rules, or would you settle with banning what you know to be the side account used to break the rules, while holding onto the fact that he can simply log back into his main account?

To clarify:

I just want to say I am affiliated with no one but myself, I am unbiased to the situation, and I had not known who AlexRamiGamimg was before I heard about this so I’m not some hater entertained by the misfortunes of others.

In my humble opinion however he got busted by streaming it, and is upset because he’s being punished.

A lot of work for nothing

So I thought I would post an update, but honestly I don't have a lot of updates to talk about. I have seem to run into some setbacks on my code which caused more than a couple of days of debugging to get it working again the way it is expected to. I decided to make my character class inherent from scriptableobject, a long with a few other classes. It wasn't a good idea and seemed to cause a lot of problems. I'm still trying to wrap my head arond scriptableobjects and when they should be used. I have also changed up my saving and loading methods to be included in my CharData class, which is the class that represents the character and all of it's information. The way I'm saving is, if there is no savegamedat it creates a new List and adds the current player to it, then saves that list to a dat file using the binaryformatter. If there is a savegamedat file then it will load deserialize the data and save it into a List reference. Then my plan is to check the list to see if it contains the current playable character, if so delete it and replace it with the current player (this will ensure that the updated player is saved over the loaded player). For some reason it seems to be adding players to the list multiple times, and this is what I'm currently working on. Hopefully by my next post I'll have all this worked out and be able to get back to working on my inventory system. Until next time...

Progressing Along

Well, it seems to be going slowly at times, sometimes at the speed of a crawl while I half-ass attempt to code and learn to code all at the same time. I can’t say there is anything all that informative of entertaining about my dev streams, but at the end of the day, progress has been made. That’s what counts isn’t it?

It took me a while to figure it out, but I’ve learned that either Unity doesn’t serialize colors that well, or I was just plain doing it wrong. I saved the queue of actions to the character’s data, so that any actions in the queue are saved with the character at save time. I couldn’t get it to work while that action data contained a color.

I’m now at the point I can create a new character, it will go through the prologue actions, and then continue to kill monsters and harvest elements until you stop it. I’m still messing with the amount of xp needed per level, trying to figure out a steady level up. I done a little more work on the load game screen as well, making it so you can load a character by double clicking on the character button.

I think the next thing I’m going to work on is the plot panel.

I had mentioned earlier about looking for a developer to work with on my next project, and I’m thinking of setting aside somewhere around a thousand dollars for payment for the project. Hopefully finding someone willing to work for that price won’t be too hard. Know anyone? I am still very open to what the next project will actually be, and hopefully I’ll find a developer that I will click with when it comes to collaborating together on it.

Killing Monsters, and Looting elements.

and then..

Now that I've got my GUI done I’m thinking of what to implement next. I mean Progress Quest is a pretty simple game, so I need to just focus on one component at a time. I’ll probably setup the action bar next, and with it actions. I am making this a loose remake, and will probably take my own approach to things like monster generation and item generation.

I’ve also been thinking about what I’m going to do next. I know it will be a little while before I’m finished with my game, but I also see the end in sight. I like the idea of working with someone on my next project and have even considered seeing if I could hire someone to work with.

I’ll probably continue streaming dev time on twitch. I’m not sure when it will be but I’ll twitter when I go live. So follow me on twitter or twitch.

I’ve finished my UI, with multiple menu panels, saving and loading a character, and random name gen and stat roller for character generation panel.

I worked kind of hard on it, and I’m not sure if I accomplished it in the best way, but it works and that’s all I care about for now. I can’t be too picky or perfectionist on my first project.

The Ultimate RPG

Classic RPG, it is one of the must play fantasy games. For my first game, I’m going to make an inspired re-imagining of this awesome RPG. It seems like a simple enough place to start for my first game. I look forward to being able to have something finished that I can proudly say I did.

A return to my hobby

It started a few months ago, my desire to get back into development. I’m a hobbyist, fresh and inexperienced when it comes to game dev. I have no portfolio, no past projects, and no real interaction with other developers or designers.

A couple years ago I started to learn Unity. I read the documentation, watched videos, and followed some tutorials. I built an understanding of unity, but that’s about it. I stopped spending time on my game dev hobby and stopped thinking about development. When I started getting back into development a few months ago learning c#, it naturally lead me back to game dev.
