On troll marriage - Binding

On alternia they dont have marriage, however they have something similar. A rite trolls go through to show their loyality to eachother, commonly only done with those one is in a quadrant with. This rite is called ‘binding’, the name coming from a special part of the rite, where the two bind one of their hands together. This is done by a third party with minimum two witnesses. After they bind their hands, they have to stay bound for at least two hours to show that they can be close and next to eachother for minimum that long and not get tempted to actually kill eachother. 

There is usually a celebration after their hands are bound, with friends, music and food around during the waiting period before their binding is completed makes that part easier. The couple being bound can choose themselves when to end the binding ritual after the two first hours have passed, many choose to wait an extra hour or ‘til the festivities have dwindeled down. Then the couple themselves untie the knot with their free hands, and the binding is completed. 

Trolls who are bound to eachother, are considered to be extremely close and willing to protect each other in dire situations. Bindings are more common in red and pale quadrants, but a black binding is not unheard of. 

 The empire does not take kindly to this ancient ritual, as it promotes a softness they frown upon. Yet it is hard to end the ritual as there is no fireproof way of knowing who is bound and not, nor who are willing to bind themselves. Still, to no suprise, this ritual is not as popular as it once was.
