Doris let herself be pulled in close, but she almost yelled her response anyway. “That’s Hippogriff shit and you know it, Sturge. I will always be in danger because of who I am and what I do. He has to understand that. But I get his position too. It just makes me so angry. I hate the world for putting us in this place. I dont know how to fight for him. He doesn’t want me to.”
“I know you will, but it might be hard for him to see that. He thinks he is protect you, you just have to make sure to tell him that he’s not. He is just hurting you by doing this, even if he sees it differently.” He understood Dante’s idea, because he had done the same thing, but he had realized he was wrong. “It’s gonna work out, Dor.”

“Awww…” He said with a teasing smile, “You love me.”
Sturge laughed, “I really do. Most of the time, at least.” He joked, “How have you been, Bertram?”
Doris buried her head in his chest, her own chest heaving with sobs as she tried to both take in air and cry. It took her a moment to calm down, and when she was able to, she spoke, “He told me he wanted to protect me. He–He thought us being together put me in danger. I understand. I understand, and that is why it hurts so badly.”
“He wants to protect you, he wants to keep you safe.” Sturgis pulled her in close, running a hand through her hair, “But, he might be doing it the wrong way. That’s why I thought leaving was a good idea. I wanted to make sure Greta was safe, but the only way to keep her truly safe is to be there with her. You, my love, are in danger no matter what, unfortunately. We are in the Order, Dor. There is always going to be someone or something coming after us. But, you should fight for him because the only way to be happy through all of this, the only way to survive it, is to be with the people you care about.”
She smiled as he kissed her before he was off and she stood there looking around at everyone. As much fun as it was dressing up. She had to admit, the masks were kinda creepy. And she honestly couldn’t wait to be able to take hers off. “You think anything looks amazing if you’re hungry enough.” She teased.
“That’s true.” Sturge laughed and began shoving food into his mouth. “When I’m finished, get ready to dance.” He shook his shoulder to loosen them up a bit, “By the way, I think you look better than amazing.”

Greta shook her head. “No, I’m fine. Thank you though.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back.” He said, placing a kiss on the top of her head, before darting off to get in line for food. It didn’t take him too long and he was at her side, again. “These little tart things look amazing.”
On the verge of tears, Doris looked at her feet, before looking back to her best friend. When she opened her mouth to speak her voice failed her and she broke down to tears. She had forgotten about the ball, and it made her feel even more miserable in that moment. “I–I forgot… I–Dante–He broke up with me.”
As soon as the tears began to fall from Doris’ face, Sturge rushed over and pulled her into his arms. “He what?” Sturge asked, not sure he had heard her right. They had been so happy together, at least, that’s what Sturgis had thought. He pulled them over to the sofa and began rubbing circles on her back, “What happened, love?”

“There’s a buffet table over there.” Greta said, pointing over towards the corner where people were helping themselves to food.
“Oh, thank Merlin!” He said, “Do you want anything? I need to get something in me before I try and dance out there.”

Doris hadn’t moved from her place in her bed unless it had been a necessary trip to the kitchen or the bathroom. She had slept more than she thought was possible.
There had been knocking at her door more than once during her mourning peroid, and it was hardly close to over when the knocking came on her door again. Doris didn’t know if she would ever be over Dante. She didn’t want to have to be, but she also hadn’t spoken to anyone since and so she slowly opened her front door. Sturgis’s face was a relief to see on the other side, and Doris leaned against the door frame as she opened the door wider. “Hey, you,” she said softly, her voice hoarse from not being used.
Sturgis could tell something was definitely wrong as soon as Doris opened the door. She didn’t look like herself and all and worry immediately took over. “Hey.” He responded, walking in and taking a look around. “What’s wrong, love?” He knew it had to be something big. “And why are you not dressed for the ball?”
“Is there any food here?” Sturge looked around, “I didn’t eat because I thought there would be food.”
Sturgis : Masked Ball (Event 6)
Let Me In ll Scarlett & Sturgis
Truthfully, Scarlett had hoped that all of this would blow over, and everything would get back to normal. That hardly seemed to be the case, it actually felt it was getting worse. Greta refused to come back, Sturgis refused to talk to them, and the tension and silence in the flat was suffocating Scarlett. It wasn’t an easy fix, and that was were they were floundering. She understood both sides, but she didn’t agree with both.
Sturgis had been avoiding her since Greta had left. Knowing her brother the way she did, he probably thought she blamed him, was upset with him, and after everything he didn’t want to deal with that. Scarlett didn’t though. If it had been her in his position, she probably would have reacted the same way. They were similar in may ways, but mostly for the fact that they both had a tendency to take the blame.
It was the blockade between them that was effecting her so much. Not only was Greta gone, the woman Scarlett always found comfort in, but it felt like her brother was gone too. Sturgis has always been her number one person, and being shut out was killing her. She had been so unsure of how to approach the situation, that she had let it continue to get worse. Scarlett wasn’t going to sit by and watch their relationship disappear, she wouldn’t allow that.
Scarlett was almost afraid that he was going to say no, walk past her, and go to bed. She was thankful when he didn’t. Her chin rested on her knees as Sturgis came to sit by her. Even though he had been around, she had missed him terribly. Sitting together, drinking tea, it almost felt normal. “Of course,” she replied softly. She wasn’t sure how to approach the subject, how to start the conversation, so she just said what she was thinking, “I know you think I blame you, but I don’t. I don’t like how things have played out, but I was in your position I would have reacted the same way,” Scarlett admitted softly.
Sturgis knew he had done wrong, a lot lately. He just wasn’t sure how to fix it. He knew there were things that were out of his control, that he couldn’t change. Everything that had gone down with Sebastian, he was starting to come to terms with. He had made his choices, they had had consequences. But, he knew there was nothing that could be done to take any of that pain away.
However, Greta was gone. That was something he could try to change, but didn’t know where to start. Scarlett and him weren’t talking, another thing he could change, but wasn’t sure how to. He had never been good at dealing with situations like these. Plus, him and his sister not talking had never really been a situation, before. Even when they were younger and would argue over something, it would only be a mere hour or so before they had gotten over it.
This was different. They hadn’t argued, they weren’t in the middle of some fight that both of them thought they were right. They were just drifting and he so badly wanted to stop it. But, just like with Greta, he wasn’t sure how. He was so scared to confront the issue for fear to find out that she blamed him for Sebastian and Greta. He wasn’t sure how he could face it if his little sister that he loved so much was mad at him for the mistakes he had made.
He began drinking his tea, quietly. The one thing about Scarlett is she always said what was on her mind. She always was there to fix things, even when he didn’t know how. He could tell that was what she was trying to do, now. “You don’t blame me?” He asked, “I thought you might, that is why I have been so quiet around you, lately. I know I made a lot of mistakes recently and I was scared that you hated me for them.” He admitted, sitting his tea down on the table and taking on of her hands, “I want you to know Scar, I love you.”
Birdy shook her head. “Of course I’m not mad. You don’t have to apologize.” She smiled at him, “Come on, I’ll help. There’s still some in inventory and it won’t be hard to make more.”
“You are the best.” He said, letting out a sigh of relief. He had been so scared to tell her for fear she might get angry with him. “Hopefully, we have enough that way you don’t have to make anymore.” He started heading to the back of the store, “What are you doing here, anyways? I thought you were taking the day off.”
