The woods were dark and the trees were heavy with the coming of autumn. He stood there, still and quiet. He wore a burgundy coat and a vest that was the color of dry earth. His hands in his pockets. It was a good suit. He looked away, past the trees, waiting for his bride. He was ready.

She stood in the old woods. The black veil fell straight but did not hide her face. Her eyes were closed. On her brow, a crown of white crystals. No flowers. No white dress. Silent dignity where the trees were bare and the ground was dark. She did not speak or move. Breathing the fresh air of a winter day. She carried her faith without bending. Trust and dedication beneath her dark appearance. Her choice to stand. Her choice to move. Hers alone.
