As forgetful as he could be
While not interested in battles and not competitive in the least, he has a bit of a temper when it comes to villains. He will jump into battle at the drop of a hat if he sees someone abusing younger trainers and Pokèmon, with or without his own Team.
He's much smarter than one could imagine. He's a master when it comes to taking care of baby Pokèmon, for starters, and has pretty good general knowledge about training. Generally speaking, he's more of a street smart kind of guy than school smart.
Has a few really nasty scars from both Rocket battles and dealing with rowdy or Shadow Pokèmon, the biggest of which being a thunder scar on his left shoulder.
While he has a dedicated room and lab at the GO base, he tends to put all the eggs and new Pokèmon his Team catches in his apartment.
With the exception of Kiko, gifted to him by prof. Willow, most of his other Pokèmon are rescues

He has a bond with Zapdos - this makes him feel the same strong emotions the Pokèmon feels, including pain, and has a vague idea of where it is everytime. As far as he knows, only fellow Legendary Pokèmon and the professor knows about this
His bond makes him feel "electric" in certain days, and when he feels strong emotions himself he has energy bursts that may lead to electric stuff turning on and off or even blow up; his eyes also light up in the dark in those days
The very same Zapdos he's bonded with gave him the thunder scar.
He's technically an orphan - his father bounced soon after he was born and his mother gave him up not much later. As far as he's concerned, the professor is way more of a parental figure than both of them combined.
He's surprisingly okay with this
He attempted the Gym Challenge as a kid but stopped shortly after his third one for a mix of not wanting to really partecipate anymore and a nasty fight with Rocket grunts that lead to the death of his starter Bulbasaur
