steve harrington having an unrequited love arc is cathartic because he’s a character who’s gotten everything he wants and so having him not “get the girl” adds an interesting texture to his stereotypically perfect character archetype. giving the gay boy who’s been traumatized and violently abused by both supernatural and human forces EVERY SEASON an unrequited love arc feels mean, unnecessary, and hurtful. especially when he’s the only main character who didn’t get a love story.

I slept on it and woke up feeling a little more optimistic, but then I saw this post detailing Noah’s and the Duffers talking about how it’s realistic that Will’s crush doesn’t like him back and that what’s important is their characters finding the strength within themselves. The same episode where Max says that she never needed the music, she just needed Lucas by the way. Okay, so the hetero couple can find strength in each other but the gay main character that has been in love with the boy that has given him SIGNALS to the point where he was questioning whether or not he had a chance just has to, what, get over those feelings within the span of less than a day? And what, we’re just supposed to be okay with that?

This has been the most egregious case of queerbaiting I’ve ever seen. They marketed it this way, they wanted people to talk about it. I don’t know if I’m even going to watch the finale, I don’t like to be made the butt of the “lol you stupid gays” joke.
